Was too excited to wait a day or two longer to start this thread. Since the FIA has confirmed the race will proceed as normal then why not this thread too!

There are basically two options:

1. Mercedes is utterly dominant
2. It’s close at the top

I’m desperately hoping for (2)

Fully expecting (1)

Get your money on Hamilton pole (happened for the last six years) and finishing second (happened for the last four years)

I wouldn’t be surprised to see 1.5 you know. Mercedes have an advantage over the rest, but not an advantage you’d call dominant.

3 team personnel (1 from McLaren & 2 from Haas) have been placed in isolation as they contracted a fever. A few medical tests have been performed & they're placed in isolation till the tests verify if they're suffering from Coronavius or not.

Interested to see whether Mercedes use the DAS here and the potential fallout from Red Bull issuing a protest to its legality. They are convinced it's not legal - so it will be interesting, particularly if they wait till post-race to protest.

I dont think Mercedes will be dominant, I think it will be close (I hope it will be). There pre-season reliability has to be a concern.

The issues are probably solved.

I'm certain Mercedes won't appear dominant.

I think DAS is a complete red herring.

Mercedes will dominate without it. If Ferrari no longer have their engine advantage esp in qualifying going to be a very dull season

I'll just be grateful if we are in for a season at all

I agree with you on DAS. I think it's a smokescreen. If it was a genuine silver bullet then they wouldn't have let it be seen before Australia.

By won’t appear dominant, you mean that they have the pace to be dominant but won’t show it? ;)

(Possibly because they run their engine at a lower setting to be sure on the reliability front)

I think of they do have the pace to be dominant then they will keep it hidden.

I agree, I think the rules have been stable for too long for one team to take a sudden leap ahead of the rest. It'll be closer than last year if you ask me.

Pretty bold! That's always assuming we are able to stage more than 4 races this season, virus permitting.

I think that is iano's assumption.

McLaren have pulled out.

This is big. I expect Haas might be next?

With McLaren withdrawing does that mean this round won't count towards the Championship?

If it goes ahead, no.

Brawn said races would be non-championship if a country barred a team. Not if a team chose to withdraw.

Further to my earlier post. The Haas team members have tested negative:

Other than a force majeure rule, I don't know if the FIA Sporting Regs would permit Brawn to take that decision?

In practice, I feel there is a fine distinction between a country barring a team (at the time the Italian teams being at risk even if not infected) versus a team being morally forced to withdraw due to actual infection.

Sky are reporting the race is going ahead: https://twitter.com/skysportsnews/statu ... 11584?s=21

Side note: ‘coronavirus-like symptoms’ is an interesting way describing it after a positive test.

BBC saying the opposite: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/51849163 but no detail

.

Typical Sky "accuracy" in reporting.

( Probably trying to pressure F1 into running the race. )

still no confirmation from FIA to be fair, but rare for BBC to report something that turned out to be untrue

It's 0300 in Melbourne.

I'd expect a press conference tomorrow morning

Premier of Victoria and F1 has been baffling this week. If Bernice was in charge I'd assume it was to garner maximum coverage for publicity

BBC News has it on main page now although "unconfirmed"- that pretty much confirms it for me...

Sky still have SkySportsF1 packages to sell so they won't be confirming or mentioning any cancellation until they get it in triplicate and hand delivered by Ross Brawn.

Yes I'm just listening to the radio where the news confirms this weekend GP is cancelled, shortly followed by a Sky advert for F1 coming soon

BBC:

"The decision was reviewed at later meetings and eventually, at around 0200 Friday local time (1500 GMT on Thursday), the decision was made to call the race off."

To be fair, they’ve talked about it being cancelled on Sky Sports News since then.
