Vettel should stop driving into the back of other cars.
Re: 2017 Mexican Grand Prix Race Thread
Vettel was clearly in front when they entered the corner. Massa shoved him off the trackHerb Tarlik wrote:No, you hit the brakes and try again. Renault engines going bang left, right and centre. Can Verstappen’s hold on?

Is this the most underwhelming end to a title race ever? lol

That first lap incident was not Max's fault. If there's blame to be assigned, Vettel must get the lions share as he hit both cars with his front wing and even pushed max word at the first corner.

Hamilton put himself in a position to have his tyre sliced when it was very unnecessary.zaar wrote:That is a somewhat queer view of this incident, although I agree he touched Hamilton because of lost downforce. A WDC race Now ruined by a guy(Verstappen) who thinks he is still playing videogames.
This was the same stuff Verstappen did to Vettel in Canada.
Vettel had lost downforce after the contact today so he could not brake properly to avoid Hamilton.
What a shame. Good job.
Re: 2017 Mexican Grand Prix Race Thread
Hamiltons trouble was he was in a DRS train, Vettel is now in one and struggling.
Re: 2017 Mexican Grand Prix Race Thread
Alonso will give Vettel no gift like Schumacher did in 2012.

Yep. Vettel hit both of them, and gets away clear and free. Amazing.sandman1347 wrote:That first lap incident was not Mac's fault. If there's blame to be assigned, Vettel must get the lions share as he hit both cars with his front wing and even pushed max word at the first corner.

Someone needs to explain to me why in all these contacts with top cars Verstappen is often involved.
Hamilton has had a very long career same as Alonso and I dont remember them driving this way and doing damage at the start when they were nobody.

Yep, pretty fitting considering how underwhelming the title fight has gone since the summer break though.Flash2k11 wrote:Is this the most underwhelming end to a title race ever? lol

Indeed, you need to be careful around Vettel.MasterRacer wrote:Hamilton put himself in a position to have his tyre sliced when it was very unnecessary.zaar wrote:That is a somewhat queer view of this incident, although I agree he touched Hamilton because of lost downforce. There's a smokey car out there...
Re: 2017 Mexican Grand Prix Race Thread
Well - let's see if Vettel can put in a performance for the ages to finish 2nd and somehow keep the race going. Wouldn't that be extraordinary?

Another Renault engine goes...
Re: 2017 Mexican Grand Prix Race Thread
I think it'd require Verstappen or Bottas to fail to finish. Not entirely impossible I guess, though i've a feeling Vettel is going to need to stop again.Invade wrote:Well - let's see if Vettel can put in a performance for the ages to finish 2nd and somehow keep the race going. The last element of suspense is if Verstappens Renault engine will make it to the end.

The Renault's cooling system probably can't handle this high altitude.

Ultrasoft for Vettel? That seems odd.

No, considering he had to ram his opponent out of the race and go unpunished. Without it there is nothing else Vettel could do.Invade wrote:Well - let's see if Vettel can put in a performance for the ages to finish 2nd and somehow keep the race going. Wouldn't that be extraordinary?
If this really happens, i would be furious if i was a merc boss and insturct Bottas to go kamikadze on Vettel next race. Obiously FIA tolerates such driving if it's fine with its plans to make artificial thrillers at the end of the season.

That sucks for Ocon. I'd ban pitting under the VSC.

Well, when you are that slow you dont generate as much heat thus lowering your need for cooling.Black_Flag_11 wrote:Honda are doing pretty well though, eh?Herb Tarlik wrote:The Renault's cooling system probably can't handle this high altitude.

IT's just ridiculous that Vettel was not even investigated for his first lap infractions. They were "noted" but not investigated. It seems to me that the stewards buried their head because if they looked, they would have to act.

Well it was stupid of Hamilton to give Seb the opportunity. He had nothing to lose as he needed Hamilton out of the points. Hamilton should have just sat in behind Seb. I don't think it was an accident but it is impossible to punish because you can't prove it was deliberate.Aspar wrote:No, considering he had to ram his opponent out of the race and go unpunished. How are Merc and Ferrari going to make those tires work in traffic?
Merc at least went for the middle compound, Ferrari went with the softest one?

FFS Kravitz, it's strat edgy! It doesn't rhyme with scratchy.
Re: 2017 Mexican Grand Prix Race Thread
I think, Verstappen should start to manage his engine. Bottas is no match and all other competitors are in no position to put any threat on him.

I don't think Hamilton did anything stupid. There's no way to just sit back as that would have led to him being swarmed by the drivers behind. He did a good job of avoiding Max and Sen without losing momentum. It was Vettel who made contact.MasterRacer wrote:Well it was stupid of Hamilton to give Seb the opportunity. Re: 2017 Mexican Grand Prix Race Thread
BTW the race pace of the top three teams looks rather equal although the Merc seems worse in traffic. Verstappen has Bottas in hand but I think Max has better race pace in general anyway.

If it's cooling issues, he at least has the advantage of (mostly) being in clear air. Still plenty of crossed fingers in the RB garage I'd guess.zaar wrote:I think, Verstappen should start to manage his engine. Re: 2017 Mexican Grand Prix Race Thread
Which emphasized even more why it should be punishable, if a driver feels he can do things like this because he has nothing to lose, it deserves a penalty even more. That's not carmaggedon. So you think F1 should be a circus, where pilots don't race and drive normally but hide and run away from a kamikadze on the track, cause he has nothing to lose and won't be penalized? Hamilton and Verstappen drove normally, Vettel hit them both.MasterRacer wrote:Well it was stupid of Hamilton to give Seb the opportunity.
