2021 P-F1 Team Pick game

Back for its third year, this is the game where you predict how all 10 teams will do in each race. For each team, you predict the 2 positions their cars will finish in, without specifying drivers. But to make it easier you don't forecast exact positions, you choose from groups of positions.

So you make two predictions per team, the choices for each prediction are:

1 - win
p - podium (2nd or 3rd)
6 - top 6 (4th - 6th)
10 - top 10 (7th - 10th)
14 - top 14 (11th - 14th)
f - classified finish or non-finish outside the top 14
nf - non-finish, (i.e. retirement, disqualification, non-starter or unclassified finish completing less than 90% of race distance)

You also predict which team will get the Fastest Lap in the race by entering fl. You can only enter fl for one team.

Each correct prediction scores 1pt. If both predictions for a team are correct, you score 3pts.

For the team you chose for Fastest Lap, if you get all 3 predictions right you score 5pts; with 2 right you get 3pts; with 1 right you get 1pt.

You don't have to stick to the correct number of picks for any group; so you could select more than 1 team to win the race, or as above, 3 predictions for the 2 podium places and only 3 picks for positions 7 - 10.

In above example: if the Mercedes drivers finish 1-2 or 1-3 you get 3pts for the team (whichever driver wins). If they finish 2-3 or 1-4 you only get 1pt. If they get the fastest lap too you get an extra 2pts. However if they get fastest lap but neither driver finishes in the top 3 you only get 1pt.

Please separate each team's picks with a space or comma. Also it would help speed the scoring if you keep the teams in 2020 Constructors pts order as above.

The cut-off time for entries for each GP is the start of FP3. Entries and changes are still allowed until 'on the hour' ten minutes before race start, BUT entries received or changed after the start of FP3 are penalised of 50% of their score, rounded down, so 16 or 17 pts would be reduced to 8.

The results will normally be posted several hours after each race finishes - and a bit later for races outside Europe.

The game will run for each GP, with points added towards the final Championship result at season's end. There will also be prizes for the most wins; most podiums; largest race winning margin, highest race winning score and Rookie of the year.

The game starts with the 2021 Bahrain GP on March 26th. There's no penalty for missing rounds and new entrants are welcome to join in at any time.

First off, welcome to JN23, Tufty and Jzusy, one of whom will win the Rookie of the Year prize. At the moment it looks like being called the Tsunoda Trophy. The Schumacher Shield sounds better to me; but the Mazepin Medal looks like the outsider!

After a stuttering start The Bahrain race provided the Hamilton/Verstappen duel we'd all been hoping for. But only 3 of us predicted Hamilton to win it. In a close result Remmirath just won, getting 6 teams - although not Fastest lap. Icemanjee1 alone did get 5pts for Mercedes, but only(?!) got 5 teams right, as did PF-1 Games Master and JN23. Those of us expecting a higher retirement rate in the first race got it wrong this year. Tim3003 was the only entrant to get Alpine right, and Jzusy alone got Aston Martin.

Rain just before race start and the odd spit during the race produced a hectic battle, but Verstappen kept his head when most around him lost theirs once or twice and took a clear win. Oddly, those of us who had Mercedes to win scored more points for them and Red Bull than those going with Verstappen. Hamilton's fastest lap and Perez's poor result made the difference. In general few teams performed as expected, only 3 of us getting 3pts for Alpha Tauri and Tim3003 alone got Aston Martin. Remmirath and Icemanjee1 were the only ones to get the maximum for Alfa Romeo. Tim3003 took the win with a tie for 2nd between Icemanjee1 and P-F1 Games Master.

It's a tie too at the top of the standings, Icemanjee1's 2 second places putting him first on podium (inc wins) count.

A champion's race by Hamilton took him to a second win of the year with Verstappen unable to match his race pace. Those of us who had Mercedes to win and fastest lap also benefited from Verstappen's exceeding track limits on his final lap, and finished at the top. With 4 teams correct and at least 1pt for every team Icemanjee1 took the win from Tufty and a tie for 3rd place. Sainz getting bumped out of the top 10 meant no-one scored a maximum for Ferrari. Icemanjee1 also scored the only max for Alpine's double top-10 finish and for Aston Martin's 2 14's. Herb and Remmirath picked the race's only retirement in Raikkonen to get Alfa Romeo right.

In the Championship standings Icemanjee1's win takes him 4pts clear at the top. Tim3003 opens the gap to Remmirath in 3rd to 4pts. Scoring their first podiums of the year Herb and Tufty move up to 4th and 5th.

Another storming drive by Hamilton took him to another win with Verstappen unable to keep him at bay with fading tyres. His late stop did get him fastest lap though, some consolation for those who predicted he would win. The result was pretty similar to Portugal, with 15 of the 21 finishing groups the same. No-one scored the possible 5pts for Red Bull though. This time Tim3003 took the win with 6 teams right (but not fl) with Remmirath and Jensons Understeer tieing for 2nd, both with 5 teams right. Alonso's bad result stopped anyone getting 3pts for Alpine. Remmirath picked the race's sole retirement and scored 3pts for AlphaTauri.

In the Championship it's a tie between Icemanjee1 and Tim3003 for 1st place. PF-1 Games Master and Jensons Understeer both move up to 5th and 6th equal. All of us still playing now have a podium too!
