Q1 was a disaster for Ricciardo, who along with Stroll really wrecked any chance any of us had to score 75 points in the opening session. In the end, with every single player scoring 15 points for Mazepin, and most of us nailing Schumacher and Latifi as well, there was only a 10 point spread from first to last.

1 = Tufty - 45
1 = JN23 - 45
1 = Remmirath - 45
1 = jzusy - 45
1 = Icemanjee1 - 45
6 = Jenson's Understeer - 40
6 = UnlikeUday - 40
8 = Herb - 35
8 = P-F1 Games Master - 35

Q2 was even more painful for us all. With no Aston Martins falling there, despite all bar Herb expecting at least Vettel to start between 11th and 15th, and a mixed up order between those many of us did expect to miss Q3, the scores were once again very low.

1 - Jenson's Understeer - 22
2 = Icemanjee1 - 19
2 = Tufty - 19
4 - UnlikeUday - 17
5 = Herb - 16
5 = jzusy - 16
7 - JN23 - 11
8 - P-F1 Games Master - 7
9 - Remmirath - 6

Going into Q3, the standings are as follows:

1 = Icemanjee1 - 64
1 = Tufty - 64
3 - Jenson's Understeer - 62
4 - jzusy - 61
5 - UnlikeUday - 57
6 - JN23 - 56
7 = Herb - 51
7 = Remmirath - 51
9 - P-F1 Games Master - 42

With Red Bull struggling, seemingly from the change in wind, Mercedes ended up comfortably locking out the front row. Norris and Leclerc also did worse than many predicted, while Ocon surpised many with his 3rd row time. Q3 results, as usual, were the most varied:

1 - jzusy - 140
2 - Icemanjee1 - 138
3 - Jenson's Understeer - 136
4 - JN23 - 134
5 - Remmirath - 128
6 - UnlikeUday - 125
7 - Tufty - 119
8 - Herb - 118
9 - P-F1 Games Master - 114

Final standings from Portugal:

1 - ICEMANJEE1 - 202
2 - JZUSY - 201
3 - JENSON'S UNDERSTEER - 198
4 - JN23 - 190
5 - TUFTY - 183
6 - UNLIKEUDAY - 182
7 - REMMIRATH - 179
8 - HERB - 169
9 - P-F1 GAMES MASTER - 156

Championship standings:

1 = JN23 - 616 [1 win, season high score 246 in Bahrain)]
1 = JENSON'S UNDERSTEER - 616 [1 2nd, 1 3rd]
3 - JZUSY - 606 [1 2nd, 1 3rd]
4 - UNLIKEUDAY - 588 [1 2nd]
5 - TUFTY - 564 [1 win]
6 - HERB - 553 [1 3rd]
7 - ICEMANJEE1 - 549 [1 win]
8 - REMMIRATH - 525
9 - P-F1 GAMES MASTER - 488

With investigations already hanging over the final results, queues in Q1 played their part in the competition as well. Raikkonen and Stroll were in the drop zone in the final minute, and while Stroll escaped the Alfa Romeo couldn't. The most surprising drop in Q1 was Tsunoda, with whom I'm now very angry because he cost me a session win :P

1 - Jenson's Understeer - 65
2 - P-F1 Games Master - 60
3 = Tufty - 50
3 = JN23 - 50
3 = Remmirath - 50
3 = Icemanjee1 - 50
3 = UnlikeUday - 50
8 - jzusy - 45
9 - Herb - 41

Q2 had fewer genuine shocks than an AlphaTauri at the back of the pack, and Ricciardo did a good job to make up for his struggles a week ago. A shame for Williams as Russell couldn't get higher than 15th, which proved many of us optimistic about their form this weekend.

1 - Jenson's Understeer - 55
2 - Icemanjee1 -50
3 - Remmirath - 33
4 - UnlikeUday - 28
5 - Tufty - 21
6 - jzusy - 20
7 = P-F1 Games Master - 18
7 = JN23 - 18
7 = Herb - 18

Standings after Q2:

1 - Jenson's Understeer - 120
2 - Icemanjee1 - 100
3 - Remmirath - 83
4 = P-F1 Games Master - 78
4 = UnlikeUday - 78
6 - Tufty - 71
7 - JN23 - 68
8 - jzusy - 65
9 - Herb - 59

The mistake from Hamilton cost him a faster final run, but he was lucky to retain pole. Perez and Norris underperformed, both compared to their teammates and to our expectations. But one name came out far ahead of the field in Q3:

1 - Icemanjee1 - 190
2 - Jenson's Understeer - 165
3 - Tufty - 164
4 - jzusy - 156
5 - UnlikeUday - 154
6 - Remmirath - 145
7 - P-F1 Games Master - 137
8 - Herb - 136
9 - JN23 - 97

Unsurprisingly, that leaves the final results a little bit like F1 itself - 2 incredibly close entries this weekend, comfortably ahead of the rest of us.

1 - ICEMANJEE1 - 290
2 - JENSON'S UNDERSTEER - 285
3 - TUFTY - 235
4 - UNLIKEUDAY - 232
5 - REMMIRATH - 228
6 - JZUSY - 221
7 - P-F1 GAMES MASTER - 215
8 - HERB - 195
9 - JN23 - 165

STANDINGS

1 - JENSON'S UNDERSTEER - 901 [2 2nd, 1 3rd]
2 - ICEMANJEE1 - 839 [2 wins, season best score 290 in Spain]
3 - JZUSY - 827 [1 2nd, 1 3rd]
4 - UNLIKEUDAY - 820 [1 2nd]
5 - TUFTY - 799 [1 win, 1 3rd]
6 - JN23 - 781 [1 win]
7 - REMMIRATH - 753
8 - HERB - 748 [1 3rd]
9 - P-F1 GAMES MASTER - 703

Kind of disappointed I didn't get any bonus points for being the only person to predict Tsunoda's Q1 exit!

You won the session, what more do you want? :P Inspired call though, seriously well done. And winning Q2 as well has given you a nice lead going into the last part of qualifying.

I guess the bonus is not carrying an eliminated driver into Q2/Q3 and therefore having the opportunity to score points with all five Q2 eliminations, as opposed to everyone else who wouldn't score points for Tsunoda going out in Q2 or Q3.

Basically, yes. Plus you got the maximum score possible for predicting his precise position as well. Q3 was the only session you didn't lead.

And it's clearly the most important one, based on the result!

Still, those overall standings look pretty, pretty, pretty good.

250 points available in Q3, versus the combined 150 for Q1 and 2. I'm tempted to do away with the sessions next year and just have the top 10 scoring system spread across the whole field. If you're within 9 places, points are awarded. I don't want to lose the jeopardy of getting drivers in the wrong session though.

This might get complicated, or might not even be a good idea, but could you do the 25-18-15.. system but if you get someone in the wrong session you only score half points.

So Russell qualified 15th today, if you’d predicted him 16th you’d get 9 but if you predicted 14th then you’d get 18. Half points might put some off though.

Would the simplest way to create parity not be to increase the points for 11th-20th? Instead of 15-10-6-3-1, maybe 25-18-15-12-10 would be better? And to use JN23's example, if I called Russell 16th, 0 points still. Heavy penalty for being one place out, but it limits it to having to predict cars in the right session. Otherwise it makes it much easier to score mid-range points with every driver. Jenson's Understeer would have had less advantage with the Tsunoda call if the hard borders between sessions are removed, and those were points he deserved and earned.

2 similar ideas there, I think the half points concept will be difficult to fit into my existing spreadsheet, and coding it to that extent is beyond my talents unfortunately. Plus it would be more complicated to understand, although I do like the idea.

As for the simpler one, that might be the best approach. I'll have to give the points a bit more thought, whether it's reasonable to have 4 places out being worth 10 points and sometimes just 1 place scoring nothing.

Q1, without Schumacher, lost us all some more or less guaranteed points, with nobody expecting Mazepin to beat his teammate (technically) and Latifi higher than some expected as well. Alfa Romeo in turn did better than most of us predicted, Tsunoda and Alonso catching a lot of us off guard.

Q1 results:

1 = Icemanjee1 - 50
1 = UnlikeUday - 50
3 - jzusy - 45
4 = A.J. - 35
4 = Jenson's Understeer - 35
4 = JN23 - 35
4 = Tufty - 35
4 = P-F1 Games Master - 35
9 - Herb - 30
10 - Remmirath - 26

Giovinazzi and Vettel making Q3 was foreseen by almost nobody, only Herb calling Vettel for the top 10 this weekend. Conversely, nobody expected Ricciardo to fall in Q2, so we had another low-scoring Q2, which is becoming a tradition this year.

Q2 results:

1 - P-F1 Games Master - 31
2 = JN23 - 30
2 = Jenson's Understeer - 30
2 = jzusy - 30
5 = A.J. - 25
5 = Remmirath - 25
7 - UnlikeUday - 23
8 - Icemanjee1 - 20
9 - Herb - 19
10 - Tufty - 17

Current standings:

1 - jzusy - 75
2 - UnlikeUday - 73
