We all have predictions in by the deadline... I'm going to assign teams to the four who aren't yet in them.

Team A - Icemanjee1 & Mayhem

Team B - F1Tyrant & A.J.

Let us know what you want your team names to be.

I almost went VER / HAM / BOT to split strategy a little from my teammate, but I decided to double down.

On the plus side, Bottas 3.0 is a sham and he may well finish off the podium tomorrow.

Bahrain Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton opened his quest for a record breaking eighth world title by winning a thrilling Bahrain Grand Prix. Max Verstappen trailed Hamilton home by less than a second with Valtteri Bottas finishing in third place.

Verstappen led away from pole position and led Hamilton for just under two seconds for most of the first stint. Bottas initially slipped behind the fast starting Ferrari of Charles Leclerc but soon re-passed down the main straight. Bottas showed strong pace throughout but a slow start and a lengthy pit stop meant he was unable to challenge the front two.

Mercedes rolled the dice first in the strategy battle and Hamilton was able gain the undercut on Verstappen. The Dutchman remained on track for an extra five laps and came out of the pits seven seconds behind the race leader.

Verstappen quickly went about reducing the deficit and was looking good to get within DRS range of the Mercedes car when Hamilton pitted for a second time on lap 28. Red Bull ran 11 laps longer in their second stint in order to create a tyre offset so they could come back strongly at the end.

This looked to be paying off when, with four laps to go, Verstappen overtook Hamilton into turn four. However, the race director intervened and ordered the place to be given back as Verstappen went beyond track limits. From that point onwards Hamilton was able to keep himself ahead and take victory in the opening race of a season for the first time since 2015.

Points
14 points – Icemanjee1, F1Tyrant, RustyRockets44
8 points – Mod Titanium, A.J.
5 points – Herb
1 points – Espo

A huge well done to Icemanjee1, F1Tyrant and RustyRockets44 who start the season with a perfect podium. Mod Titanium and A.J. also start strongly, taking home eight points each.

Team championship

Team B make a strong start to the season with 22 points, thanks to being the only team where both players scored points. This puts them ahead of THE – Turbo Hybrid Era and Team A, who have 14 points apiece.

Next time

Next time we head to Imola for the Pirelli Gran Premio del Made in Italy e dell'Emilia Romagna. Yes really.

Well done all and I look forward to seeing how this game progresses through the season

And we open our record with leading the championship! :D

This is what happens when Schumacher and Hamilton fans combine to create the greatest team ever (sorry, I am simply terrible at trash-talking).

AJ - don't worry, I am also terrible at trash-talking. Which explains why the best I could think of for mine and Tufty's team name is Team Turbo

Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio del Made in Italy e dell'Emilia Romagna 2021
Max Verstappen won an exciting and at times chaotic Grand Prix in Imola. Lewis Hamilton took second place despite spending a chunk of time in the wall and gravel. Lando Norris bounced back from yesterday’s disappointment to make it the first double British podium since the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix.

Verstappen took the lead on the opening lap, capitalising on his better launch than Hamilton who did try to keep the position around the outside but only succeeded in damaging his front wing end plate. Verstappen quickly built up a five second lead over the Mercedes man. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc also made a good start, passing Sergio Perez on the opening lap.

As the first stint developed, Verstappen and Hamilton traded fastest laps and as the track dried, it looked like Hamilton was getting the upper hand as he closed the gap to Verstappen. Verstappen blinked first when it came to changing to slick tyres and was able to retain his lead when Hamilton pitted the following lap, partly in thanks to a slow Mercedes pit stop.

The two leading cars came out from there pit stops behind a large group of backmarkers, and Hamilton made what looked like a costly mistake trying to lap the Williams of George Russell. He lost the car on a damp part of the track and ended up breaking part of his front wing off as he touched the wall. Eventually Hamilton made his way back on track after what seemed like an age in the gravel trap. However, luck was on the Stevenage man’s side as a red flag was called after a big shunt between his teammate and Russell.

Hamilton took the restart in ninth and made a ruthless recovery drive through the field, passing Raikkonen, Stroll, Ricciardo, Sainz, Leclerc and Norris to get back to second position. Leclerc was caught napping on the restart and Norris was able to pass him into turn two. This all left Verstappen unchallenged to take victory by a long way.

Points
No perfect podiums this time as, unsurpsingly, no one predicted a McLaren podium.

8 points – Herb, Tufty, Remmirath, P-F1 Games Master, JN23, Exediron
5 points – F1Tyrant, RustyRockets44

Individual championship
F1Tyrant and RustyRockets44 remain joint leaders following their prediction of Verstappen to win. Icemanjee’s no score leaves him in third position. We have a whole host of us on eight points in the middle of the pack and four still to get off the mark.

Only three have scored points in both races.

Team championship
All teams are now of the mark with the newly named Overrated Legends Racing retaining their lead from Bahrain.

Next time
We now head to Portimao for the Portuguese Grand Prix. Last year it served up a great race, let’s hope for more of the same this time around.
