British Grand Prix

There was me thinking this would be quite a short report to write and then I could have some beers.

Lewis Hamilton led from start to finish and for the vast majority of the race it seemed like Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen would complete the podium for the third race in a row. That all changed on lap 50 as Bottas’ front left tyre punctured with him having to complete a full lap to get back to the pits. This dropped him out of the points and is a disaster for his Championship aspirations.

With Bottas dropping down the field, Red Bull took the opportunity to take a free pit stop and go for fastest lap. Then on the final lap, Hamilton’s tyre punctured as well and he crawled to the finish line as Verstappen just coming up short in his chase. Did Red Bull’s late pit stop cost them victory? Maybe, maybe not.

Charles Leclerc was the man in position to take advantage of Bottas’ puncture to take his second podium of the season.

TL;DR Hamilton won again, Verstappen did a great job to finish second again and Leclerc took advantage of a late puncture for Bottas to take third. Just a routine afternoon.

Twelve of us predicted Hamilton to win but Exediron’s late change was inspired as he predicted Max Verstappen to take second position which gives him the win this round.

That win helps Exediron close the gap to the leaders to two points in the Championship. No Limit Excedrin Racing extend their Team Championship lead to four points from Team TBD.

We now move on from Silverstone to… Silverstone! For more tyre related madness.

I'll admit, with 50 laps down it didn't look like such an inspired call...

First of all I gotta say a big "Sorry Herb" to my long suffering team mate for my missed rounds this year.

The rain that postponed P3 in Styria mucked me up (don't ask me how), & last week I was one of those who were locked out with the site changes.

Rest assured Herb i'm now fully focused on the season & determined to drive us back to the top of the standings where we belong.

I really hate to be boring and go with a repeat and what seems to be a fairly standard pick, but I just can’t seem to make the jump and be too bold.

70th Anniversary GP 9th August 2020

70th Anniversary Grand Prix

A brilliant drive from Max Verstappen saw him take the first non-Mercedes win of the season at a sweltering Silverstone.

Valtteri Bottas led away from pole position with Lewis Hamilton following him from P2 on the grid. Verstappen managed to get the jump on Nico Hulkenberg to take P3 that turned out to be a crucial moment in the outcome of the race.

As the first stint went on, Verstappen’s strategy of starting on the harder tyre saw him close on both of the Mercedes cars. Once both Mercedes cars pitted, Verstappen was able to keep up his pace and stretch his lead to almost a pit stop over Bottas. Once he came out from his stop, it only took a few corners to find a way past the struggling Bottas.

The leading two both pitted for the second time on the same lap with the Dutchman maintaining his lead. Meanwhile Hamilton was able to run his second stint nine laps longer than the leading pair making him the quickest man on track in the closing laps. This advantaged enabled him to catch and pass both Leclerc and Bottas to give him second position.


Unsurprisingly none of us predicted a win for anyone other than a Mercedes making this a low scoring round. Bentrovato and myself took the win predicting Hamilton to finish second. The only other scorers were RustyRockets44 and Mod Blue who predicted Bottas to finish third.

F1 Rockets were able to jump up to fourth in the Team Championship thanks to their four points.

We move onto Spain next weekend for more tyre related fun!
