I've retired from this season guys, heart isn't in it and I haven't been keeping up with any developments for the last 6 months or so. The fact that they're simplifying the aero has alone made me far less invested in it and the new engines coming have absolutely no redeeming or interesting factors to me in any way so I'm taking a break from F1 to see if I get some interest back in the future. Who knows if they keep dumbing it down though

I'll be back for sure, with a better level of commitment to try and reflect the effort that you put in each race. Just lost interest in them bringing in new rules to set the engineering backwards, once it all stabilises and they stop with counter-productive rules I'll be interested again to watch it moving forwards

Well the front wing change for next season will slow the cars down but it's being done to aid overtaking so overall a good thing?

hopefully, this is true. And with any luck it does work as planned and is good for both the racing and the sport as a whole. But I'm probably a bit of a minority here in that I am FAR more interested in the engineering solutions than the racing itself. In my mind the race is simply a performance test under appropriate conditions to evaluate the effectiveness of each teams solution to the problem that the regulations lay out. and they simply keep just telling the teams what they CAN'T do and dumbing down the engineering across all areas, too many backwards steps

In my mind, you're in the 1% who actually get F1, and all the people who want to cripple the engineering in the pursuit of 'better racing' are barking up the wrong tree.

Round 12: Budapest, Hungary

The start of the race saw pole man Hamilton lead away from his teammate Bottas whilst Vettel managed to pass his teammate Raikkonen, Verstappen quickly made his way to 5th from 7th on the grid whilst his teammate Ricciardo started even further back on the grid in 12th place.

With overtaking behind very difficult Ferrari pitted Raikkonen early on lap 15 onto the harder soft tyres in order to pressure Mercedes with the undercut, Bottas responded and pitted straight away also onto the soft tyres to cover off Raikkonen.

Meanwhile Hamilton stayed out having good pace on the softer ultra tyres however Bottas pitting left the track clear for Vettel, who had started on the soft tyres, to chase down Hamilton, Verstappen who had been running in 5th place retired with a MGU-K failure.

Vettel started to slowly close the gap to Hamilton so the time eventually came for Hamilton to pit for the softer tyres and he rejoined the track in second place, Vettel needed to stay out much longer so to have not to long a stint when he changed to the ultra tyres, he managed to create a pit stop gap to Bottas but then traffic plus a slow stop saw him rejoin the race just behind Bottas in third place.

Try as he might he couldn't pass Bottas which allowed Hamilton to extend his lead, a VSC was called for a car retired at the side of the track which enabled Raikkonen to pit again this time for ultra tyres whilst the other leaders stayed out in particular Bottas who made his first stop as early as Raikkonen but stayed out to keep track position on Vettel and protect the lead of his teammate Hamilton.

However near the end of the race Bottas started to struggle on his tyres and came under increasing pressure from Vettel whilst Raikkonen on his fresh tyres had caught the both of them, Ricciardo who had a long first stint on soft tyres was also on fairly fresh ultra tyres and was also catching the cars in front from 5th position.

Vettel managed to draw in front of Bottas and as Bottas tried to defend the inside of the corner the two cars collided, Bottas damaged his front wing and fell behind Vettel and Raikkonen, Vettel's car being undamaged. Bottas with badly worn tyres and a damaged front wing was then caught by Ricciardo and as he tried to defend the inside of a corner he ran into Ricciardo and pushed him off the track.

Mercedes informed Bottas to give back the position to Ricciardo but Ricciardo managed to pass him anyway, Bottas received a 10 second penalty for the collision but still finished 5th.

So Hamilton took the win from Vettel, Raikkonen, Ricciardo and Bottas with Gasly finishing in a meritorious 6th position in the STR car.

A gentle reminder to all friends here:

All those who're or not aware that Force India may not be able to take part in this weekend's race, it would be best to exclude Checo or Ocon from their picks unless it becomes official that they're taking part in the race.
