I knew it was a gamble to pick Max to win, and it didn't pay off. :P

This race may have had much the same effect on my title ambitions as it did for Verstappen, especially if the next two are easy Hamilton wins.

I'll happily take any predictions anyone wishes to submit privately. I doubt I'll be in either title hunt after Saudi.

Less clear than I expected after those practice sessions...

I'll make my decision later tonight. I was expecting an obvious Hamilton win, but now I'm not so certain.

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton won a chaotic, entertaining and heated Saudi Arabian Grand prix ahead of Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas. A HAM-VER-BOT podium, must have been boring right?

The front three got away from the grid evenly and remained in that order in the opening stages of the race. The first major incident was Mick Schumacher crashing into the wall. With a safety car being called both Mercedes drivers took the pits whilst Verstappen stayed out and took the lead. Controversially, after a few laps behind the safety car, the race was red flagged meaning Verstappen was able to take the restart with fresh tyres and from first position.

At the restart, Hamilton got a much better start from second on the grid and looked to have taken the lead but Verstappen went around the outside, off track, to retain the lead. In having to take some avoiding action, Hamilton dropped behind Ocon before the race was again red flagged due to a couple of big crashes down the field.

Another standing restart followed, with Ocon ahead of Hamilton and Verstappen, the latter being put down to third on the grid for his off the track move on Hamilton at the previous restart. Hamilton again made a good start from second position but crucially did not defend the inside line giving Verstappen the opportunity to made a bold move to take the lead. Hamilton and Ocon also made contact but both survived.

Several virtual safety cars followed due to debris on the track. Following one of these, Hamilton was able to slip stream Verstappen down the main straight and attempt to overtake his championship rival around the outside of turn one, but was pushed wide.

Following this, Verstappen was told by his engineer to concede the position ‘strategically’. This led to a bizarre incident as Verstappen slowed down on one of the straights and Hamilton ran into the back of him. Somehow both survived and were able to continue. Verstappen later received a ten second penalty for the incident.

Five laps later, Verstappen did give the place back again but immediately slipstreamed Hamilton and retook the lead before once again being told to concede the lead. Verstappen did concede and was also hit with a five second penalty for the initial incident. From that point on, Hamilton pulled away and was never troubled.

Esteban Ocon ran third from the second restart to the final seconds of the race where Valtteri Bottas was able to out drag him to the finish line.

Points
14 points – Icemanjee1, JN23, Bentrovato, Jenson’s Understeer, Mayhem, Remmirath, P-F1 Games Master
5 points – Exediron, Espo, F1Tyrant, Herb, Tufty

Individual Championship
A perfect podium for JN23 puts them up to second in standings. Icemanjee1 also scored a perfect podium meaning they hold a good advantage going into Abu Dhabi. The individual title will be won by one of those two.

There are a lot of close battles throughout the rest of the standings meaning a good result could see anyone jump up the table. Twelve points separate 3rd and 9th, 10 points separate 10th and 15th.

Team Championship
Team A take the lead of the Team Championship with one round to go thanks to a double perfect podium. They lead THE by 11 points and No Limit Excedrin Racing by 12 points, meaning that any of those three can still win this championship.

Next time
The final round of the longest Formula 1 season ever. Will any of those involved in our title fights be brave enough to predict drama between Hamilton and Verstappen?

Instructions for championship contenders
Providing P-F1 Mod is still happy to take private predictions, please can the following players submit their predictions privately to them by the usual start of FP3 deadline:

Icemanjee1
JN23
Mayhem
Bentrovato
RustyRockets44
Exediron
Jenson’s Understeer

I kept the predictions private until after the race last year but I know this was different to 2019 so P-F1 Mod, if you want to post the predictions after FP3 has started, I’ll do some permutations for us.

Boring, and probably won't happen because of a crash, but at least I've tried something different if everyone else takes the crash route!

Sorry, JU. I had to try for the gamble to maybe take a lead into Abu Dhabi... It almost worked, but almost isn't quite there.

Only Icemanjee1 or JN23 can still win the individual title, but the team championship is alive and well. I'll submit my predictions later.
