Medals System Table

I thought it would be a good idea to start an Eccelstone-inspired medals table, both out of interest, and as a good comparison to the Consistency Table thread. Personally, I am opposed to the system for the official Championship, but think it's interesting nonetheless

Table (following Malaysia):
1. Vettel: |1|0|1|
2. Raikkonen: |1|0|0|
3. Webber: |0|1|0| (6th)
4. Alonso: |0|1|0| (DNF)
5. Hamilton: |0|0|1|
6. Massa: 4th (5th)
7. Rosberg: 4th (DNF)
8. Grosjean: 6th
9. Sutil: 7th
10. Di Resta: 8th (DNF)
11. Hulkenberg: 8th (DNS)
12. Perez: 9th (11th)
13. Button: 9th (17th)
14. Vergne: 10th
15. Bottas: 11th
16. Gutierrez: 12th
17. Bianchi: 13th
18.Pic: 14th
19. Van Der Garde: 15th
20. Chilton: 16th
21. Ricciardo: 18th
22. Maldonado: DNF

Key:
|Golds|Silvers|Bronzes| - Medals
Xth - Highest finish
(Xth) - second highest finish
[Xth] - third highest finish

Surely Button and Ricciardo are wrong? Button needs moving up above grosjean, and you haven't recorded ricciado finish of 7th, putting him above Sutil

How far down the positions would they have been awarded? I thought it was first 3 only, so only Vettel, Kimi, Alonso, Massa and ro gro would have any?

After the podiums I give highest result, similar to how non-points scorers are positioned. Although I wish i had thought of not classifying guys off the podium, would make this alot easier

Nitpick - check third places count for RBR and Merc.

Um... You first state there would be no change, then say you're glad no change system isn't used? :?

Anyway, maybe medals are not best system out there, but Rosberg definitely needs to be a bit higher.

Just a quick question - who wins the title in this system? Obviously Vettel in this specific case, but what are the rules? Only going by the number of wins first, then seconds, then thirds? So a driver winning 10 races and retiring in the other 9 would be WDC, even if another driver wins 9 races and runner-up in the other 10?

Yes, it is most wins, no matter what happens in the races that driver does not win. Second places then count if there is a tie, then 3rds, then highest non-podium position. for drivers without any medals the highest finish will determine the order in WDC, and WCC, similar to those who do not score points in the current system. Bernie Eccelstone wanted to use it for 2009 onwards but never happened. Personally I prefer the points system we have now, but I started this thread as an interesting comparison to the consistency tables. Although this season has been rather boring, there are years where this is much more interesting. For example, in 2005 where Kimi Räikkönen would have won the championship, or 1982, where Didier Pironi would have won, despite missing out on the last 5 races due to injury.

OK, thank you for the confirmation.
1982 would have been a curious case. Rosberg would suddenly be only sixth :)

Yeah there are a few things wrong...
- Webber has 3 third places
- RBR's points should be 13 - 6 - 5
- Ferrari should be 2 - 5 - 3
- Merc should be 3 - 1 - 5
- Sauber should be sixth and FI seventh, as it's Sauber that scored 2 6th places and FI only one
