Your favourite supercar

Post by partyboyu »

For me its Koenigsegg CCX

Acceleration: 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds, 0–200 km/h (124 mph) in 9.8 seconds[1]
Top speed: over 395 km/h (245 mph)
Braking distance: 100–0 km/h (62–0 mph) in 32 m

And here is video, Koenigsegg CCX on race track

Ford Gt40. The original 1960s one was a supercar at the time, and built solely so Henry Ford II could ask Enzo Ferrari how he liked them apples when it beat the Ferraris at Le Mans.

For me it's Vantage V12. Has been since it arrived. Always will be probably..

Second place maybe the Koenigsegg Agera R... Mostly because it's insane speed and because it's Swedish!!

And this because not only is it an incredible car in itself, but without it we would never have had the F40 which imo is the greatest ever.

I have driven a 911 turbo, Caterham Superlight R500, Aston V8 Vantage, Lotus Exige, Jag XKR to name but a few, but there is one car that stands head and shoulders above these cars, the AC Cobra.

A great car makes you happy when you drive it. The AC Cobra makes me happy just remembering driving it. It wasn't particularly fast, nor did it handle particularly well. But the noise, the theatre, the character, the way the car physically reared up when you accelerated. No car ever made before or since is quite like it, it is quite simply the best car ever made.

Greater than this? (because "this" is a ROAD supercar, isn't it? "O" for "Omologata")

I'm with you. V12 Vantage is definitely my favorite street car. There is a smurf blue one in my neighborhood, love seeing it tooling about.

As much as I really love the 250GTO, I just feel the age of it would mean that the driving experience would be less impressive that the F40. The F40 came out at just the right time for me. It was produced just before the advent of electronic technology started filtering in to road cars. Therefore I believe it to be the most pure yet fastest Ferrari road car of them all. Also the turbos give a real kick. Nothing like a bit of 80's turbo lag to give you something to think about. You have to drive the F40. It does not make decisions for itself like so many modern super cars. I know the same can be said of the 250GTO but the simple fact that it is an early 60's car means that I would prefer the much more modern F40.

I could cope with either though!!!!!!

Ferrari 330GT 2+2.
Its not the prettiest, shouldnt really be called a supercar, but it was first Ferrari I ever saw and I was fascinated by it as a kid. First die cast model I ever bought was 330GT 2+2. I still love it more than even 250GTO.

The legends about the Cobra are insane. Arguably one of the most dangerous supercars ever built. Certainly the most copied. I'm a big fan of the snake too.

From the modern era I'm going to have to go with the Zonda

I love how ridiculous it is and yet still a very fast and capable supercar.

My opinion of post-Miura Lambos is that they keep repeating on and on the Countach's theme, without finding anything really new and different.

I agree... kind of.
:D

It wasn't??? 4.5 0-60mph in 1965 was pretty darn fast! 12.5 quarter mile times... pretty darn fast even today. The car had over 400hp with a weight of under 2500lbs.... or for my non-American friends... 1147kg.

I know what you mean with your post, but the car really was quite fast when one considers its era. And, while it certainly did not handle as do today's top cars, it wasn't bad when set up for the track. Not Ferrari good, but it still managed to take it to the Ferraris quite often when it had room to run.

You are totally correct in saying that a Cobra is a total unique experience and one that would be very difficult to duplicate today, though the original Dodge Vipers did not do a bad imitation. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on one's point of view, we demand more today of our super cars. Brute horsepower now must be mated with great brakes, good handling, traction control...and the tires of today are so very superior to what was available for the 60s Cobras or Ferraris.

I agree up to a point. First let me say that no manufacture could have easily followed the Muira... that is one of the most beautiful cars ever built, how do you do better???

However, I did think the original Contach was quite nice... before they started butchering it with every subsequent evolution of it. The the Diablo replaced it..and it was even worse. The Murcielago is OK, but as you say that there is just too much of a familiar theme. I will admit to kind of liking the Gallardo though.

Of course considering in its era it was a very fast car, however this thread is about what we think the best EVER supercar is, and compared to modern cars I have driven, it wasn't that fast. It may be that the one I drove had lost 1 or 2 horses over the years, but it was pretty immaculate. Compared to modern supercars, it didn't have the brutal power delivery, and you wouldn't expect it to.

But frankly, a cars greatness should not be measured by a stopwatch, as too many of today's cars are. A great car should make you feel amazing. Nothing rivals the Cobra in this respect. If you look at some of the cars I've driven (above), you might be surprised to learn my 3 favourite cars are as follows:
1. Cobra
2. Jaguar E-type S1
3. Lotus Elise
Because driving them is like nothing else on Earth. The Cobra for the theatre, the Jag for the history and the Lotus made me giggle (a lot).

I really like some selections, notably the Muira, 250GTO, and GT40. But the first car that completely captivated me and made me fall in love with a hunk of metal was the Jaguar E type. I spent countless hours doodling picture of it in school, I probably drew more Jaguars than breasts in my early teens, that's how much that car sparked strong emotions.
