That's exactly how I feel about his style of movies.... he makes bad movies that a very entertaining to watch. He's also one of the main innovators of IMAX cameras as well, so while we can always point out the stupid and ridiculous things we see... they're always in the highest quality that can be done.... and I do like the fact he's got the mentality of 'if it can be done for real, then do it for real'. he uses CGI to compliment his vision (Strange comment to make about a movie containing numerous giant CGI Robots I know), rather than rely on it to make his vision reality

I watched the King Arthur movie. It was a bit... I can't tell if I liked it or not. Probably not. It was like Lock Stock but in the round table! Very weird indeed.

If I didn't know you were talking about Guy Richie (you are, aren't you?), that description sounds a lot like Peter Jackson from 25 years ago ;)

I watched it last night. I agree about Gadot and Pine, Gadot is such a powerfull actress. However I didn't like the storyline, it felt like any other movie recipe, right down to the twist at the end (surprise the bad guy isn't who you thought it would be).

So, I watched Alien:Covenant yesterday. It is truly truly awful. Basically, it's the dodgy Predators film with Adrien Brody but with Aliens instead.
The problem with it, is that it just invents a new bit of Alien mythology. Instead of facehuggers, they use

Then, there is a bit in the middle when there is an extended section while

Also, there is no real terror. At all. It's just so bad.

Watched Blade Runner 2049 last night.

Not bad, however I found it slow at times. Reading reviews, a lot of people thought the same. It could have easily been 40' shorter.

I loved the new Blade Runner and in my opinion before going to see it, it was not a film that needed to be made. The score was just fantastic and the cinematography was beautiful. I need to go and see it for a 2nd time I think but at an imax screen.

Just watched the 2014 Godzilla movie again and I still can't understand why it got so slated?

I love the original post war Japanese Godzilla films and I love this one, it is a perfect homage to what it is based on.

Ideal if you like David Lynch type films and you have a thing for lesbian necrophilia. Seriously. Jenna Malone is awesome in this film and Keanu Reeves is surprisingly nasty. I watched this twice and will definitely watch it again...

I did, Hemsworth and Hiddleston should team-up as "The Odd Couple". Sure they worked together like a comedy. Should have Hiddleston play Alex while Hemsworth do the Oscar part.

But in the end. It was a great movie. If only I could wished for is a crossover. Avengers and Star Wars together. Watching the credits roll and the 1st partial scene where the ship is getting pursued by the Grandmaster's brother The Collector. It enticed me just like the Darth Vader pursuing Princess Leia to retrieve the plans.

It would be fun if they found Naboo (From Star Wars: The Phantom Menace).

As far as movies go, I just watched Justice League. There will be a surprise going to the full ending after the credits. An extra scene will be shown. It doesn't matter what they say how crappy it is, I loved it.

Justice league is the next one I'll go, thanks for the tip.

H&H were good, I agree. And as a movie Ragnarok was fine, a bit TOO much comedy maybe, but good overall. I didn't like the music though. For some reason that is what annoyed me the most. All previous Thor movies had a theme, this one was just whatever... Meh, small thing

Saw Starwars: The last Jedi last night and although there were some issues with it, I enjoyed it a lot.

My main gripe is simply the length of it (although that may have been because I'd had a couple of beers before and really needed the toilet after about 1.5 hours!). There were quite a lot on 'endings' where you'd think the film finished, but it carried on. I guess in a way it's good that didn't leave the film on a massive cliff hanger and went with the current trend of splitting the story up into as many films as possible for the extra money.

There was a lot more light heartedness than there has been in the past, some of which was quite funny or cute etc, but some of it did get annoying the longer it went on, but none of it was as bad as Jar Jar! That was balanced though by quite a few dark moments in the film and I think they found an ok mix of the 2.

Without going into spoilers, it's overall a decent film and I'd recommend it to everyone.

Ok, now I have watched it and I can comment on the following:

I don't think the length was too much, especially I didn't find too many endings. For that, there's only one movie that comes to mind; the return of the King!

Light heartedness was ok, all original Star Wars had a comical side. It was a good mix as you mentioned.

thought this too, but obviously it's not something they could have foreseen. I've heard that it has been announced that Leia will not be in the next film, but I can't see how they can keep her out of it considering how this one ended. But if they do go with CGI, Disney did do a good job with their CGI work in Rouge One, so I'm fairly optimistic that it will be good if they go down that route.[/spoiler]

When I came out of the theatre I thought:

My ordering of the Star Wars movies is:

5 , 4 , 8 , Rogue One, 6 , 7 , 1 , 3 , 2

After I reflected on it, my ordering of the Star Wars movies is:

5 , 4, Rogue One, 6 , 1 , 7 , 3 , 2 , 8

Episode 8 is a good fun experience at the cinema. But so was Star Trek Into Darkness. Just don't think too hard about either after you come out.

@Siao7:

Fair enough, valid points. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one! Something that makes a good film and story is the fact that it can be interpreted or seen in different ways and can be discussed about afterwards. So I think that it has succeeded there.

On a note regarding Alien's post, I've honestly never understood the love for Empire! It has so many good points to it, but as far back as I can remember I've never liked the ending! I can't explain it and I know that the ending is what most fans site as what makes it a good film, but for me, it's what spoils what was a good film.

I agree. My SW rating was always 4, 6, 5.

Then probably 7, 8, R-1, 3, 1, 2.

This was always down to individual aspects that I liked in the films. For example I liked the scene of how Anakin becomes Vader, so episode 3 is higher than the other two from that trilogy.

Well, Star Wars.

I'm pretty mixed about it. Also, 6pm showing and they start the movie at 18:35. bull****. Start at 10 past or quarter past, 30 mins of extra adverts and crap is mugging us off.
Spoiler (click to show)

As for the order of preference in the movies for me... I'll probably lose any credibility I have with many of you with this.

6, 4, 3, 7, 8*, 5, 1, 2 and I haven't seen Rouge 1. Saw the Clone Wars movie but I've forgotten most of that.
Movies I quite like:
I like ANH and RotJ's space battles. I liked 3's space battle opener and thought it had some cool looking light saber fights. (thought is also has the big NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO). 7 had that beautiful shot of the X-wings skimming over the lake. Those 4 films, I'd watch again quite happily.

Movies I'd watch if I was on a Star Wars binge:
Asterisk for 8 because I've only just seen it and it's hard to place a movie immediately. It needs time to settle. ESB... I must admit I've never got why this film is (seemingly) widely considered the best Star Wars movie. I don't get why it's considered a great movie in the pantheon of all movies. I never cared for Hoth and the events there. I didn't like Yoda in ESB. Han in carbonite never did much for me. Luke vs Vader isn't the flashy style that I prefer in the sequels. The twist is so well ingrained in popular culture that it wasn't a twist for me. It lacked a big X-wing sequence which, as I said, is the bit I like. Now, I don't think it's a bad movie, I just think it is okay at best and a bit of a miss for my sensibilities.

Movies I'd skip through or just skip:
1 and 2... both bad movies in my book. Never got the need to explain the force. This isn't hard sci-fi, this is fantasy in spaceships. Some crappy dialogue. A lot of crappy dialogue. The 9 hour long podracing sequence. Jar Jar doesn't bother me as much most people. 1 ahead because Darth Maul is bad donkey and the lightsaber fight at the end was cool and had a totally bad donkey score (iirc, been a while).

Edit after re-reading some other comments:
I didn't think Star Wars 8 had too many endings at all. I didn't get that feel whatsoever.
I also might have overestimated how much people like ESB

Anyone one seen Netflix's Bright yet?

I'm glad I watched it before reading some of the film critics reviews of it cause I thought it was done really well and I really enjoyed it.

For those who haven't seen or heard about it, it's basically a cop-buddy film set in a gritty modern LA but in a fantasy setting with orcs, elves, faries etc. I think they managed to pull it off really well, nice enough story and even though they had a lot of fantasy creatures and main characters, they never really shouted about it, I just kind of accepted it as I watched.

Maybe if you don't like fantasy genre already it's not for you (and to be fair, film critics generally don't and usually slag off anything fantasy related as a rule), but every friend of mine who has seen it has loved it!

Yeah, it was ok. Not much, but ok fun to watch.

Didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't such a surprise either. It reminded me a lot of other Hollywood movies that events take place over one night like "assault on precinct 13" or "16 blocks" or something.

It was ok, same here didnt know what to expect but it didnt have any surprising elements to it.... Agreed it also reminded me of assault on precinct 13... coulda been more interesting if they showed how LA got to that position they were in with more detail leading to its current state in the film

Imagine the script quality, acting talent and production values of a low budget porno and take away the redeeming feature of the pornography and you have this film.

Finally got see Thor Ragnarock.

Maybe I'm just a contrary Mary in my old age, but I really think Thor and Thor 2 were better movies. Far, far too many comedy beats. Potentially the best moment was kindly ruined by marvel in the f**king trailer. I mostly liked the plot but this felt like they wanted to make this more into Guardians of the Galaxy. Rehashed some plot points that have been done.

So, kinda surprised by all the talk of it being the best marvel movie. I'd give that honour to either Guardians of the Galaxy or Winter Solider depending on my mood when you ask me.

Also caught up on:
Spiderman Homecoming - Overall, liked this quite a lot. Not sure if I prefer it to Amazing Spiderman though.

Xmen Apocalypse - Not as good as Days of Future Past or X2 but I'd watch this over First Class, Xmen or Xmen 3.

Guardians 2 - Just okay. A bit too funny would be my criticism. Lacked something, though I'm not sure what. Not a patch on the excellent first movie. Just much less memorable and fun than Guardians was.

Agree on both counts. The humour in Ragnarok wasn't bad or poorly executed - just too much of it, shoe-horned into scenes that didn't need it.

GotG 2 I actually got a bit bored with - too much going on. When you have a strong set of characters with a good dynamic (which they did) it's best to keep the plot simple and focus on the dialogue and the dynamics.

That's it, I think you nailed it. I couldn't figure out what annoyed me with this film, but I think you got it right there. It should have been a great film, what with Star-Lord finding out about his father and all, but it just did not work out.
