watched Apocolypto couple of years ago, late night on BBC. very good movie

also read Millenium trilogy and then watched all three Swedish movies. Great books and movies are almost there.
this might be slightly controversial, but in terms of the movies, i watched the swedish movie first (dragon tattoo) and then a few months later watch the hollywood version, and i quite liked the hollywood version more, i found the swedish one a little slow (although truth be told, i did watch it at 1am, and fell asleep towards the end, so it may need a rewatch)

how do the other films compare?
I haven't seen the Hollywood one yet. But my reason to go books and then Swedish movies was very deliberate one - who can show Swedish way of talk and do things better than Swedes themselves? (similar as 'Killing' situation). So I actually wanted to watch 'originals' first, with subtitles. Of course they were changes comparing to the books, but I think in general it was really close. With just one thing I want to mention - books are not that focused on Liz comparing to the movies. And we have to remember those are TV movies. Not a proper cinema as a Hollywood one.

@Mr E - I think she is a very good actress. but that would be it from my side ;) BTW - are you MrE I think you are? with the stories about lawnmower business?
I watched all three Swedish movies at the cinema and despite my usual dislike of subtitled films I prefered them to the Hollywood version. Daniel Craig and co was not bad but Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist have it by a comfortable margin.
I agree completely, although I didn't have to read any subtitles.

Finally watched Prometheus last night.

Some holes in the plot, I wish there was a director's cut version that showed more.

But it was fantastic in the 3D cinema, they really did some great shooting.

I think it leaves a lot of hints for a sequel.

watched the girl who played with fire last night, and it was fantastic!
they stayed true to the book is such a way! also Noomi Rapace is so fit! she basically is lisbeth to me, fits the profile so well, understated, yet still beautiful in a way!

one thing though, i felt that if one hadn't read the books, it could appear a little confusing!

i love they way they say micheal blomquist though (spelling?)

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel... Fun movie with a damn good cast. there's one scene that had all of us in stitches.

21 Jump street. completely in-F**king-sane movie.... some real laugh out loud moments and some completely WTF moments. Some great cameos, one of which i recognised the actor before it was revealed, another i had no idea about.

The Boat That Rocked a.k.a 'Pirate Radio' on the west side of the Atlantic.

9/10 I loved the film. It has that British made feel and yet doesn't get pretentious about itself. A feel good movie and given it's late 60's setting a cracking soundtrack too.

I booked Batman tickets for Friday.

I'm almost guarenteed to enjoy it, I'm so up for it that it'd have to be awful before I thought it was anything less than great.

Me and a different mate are going to do the triple header one day. Our local cinema is showing Batman Begins and Dark Knight back to back, so we'll hit them up then go see DKR (Diddy Kong Racing!) again after them.

The Awakening (2011) - awesome movie 10/10

"In 1921, England is overwhelmed by the loss and grief of World War I. Hoax exposer Florence Cathcart visits a boarding school to explain sightings of a child ghost. Everything she believes unravels as the 'missing' begin to show themselves."

They should have made it into 2 parts, the ending just seemed too rushed like they needed to pack 50 endings into 30 minuets, but it was still a great film.

It felt a bit like that with The Dark Knight. Was about 5 different places I thought it had ended! Still really looking forward to seeing Dark Knight Rises though!

On another note, currently watching Cool Runnings. Absolute classic haha.

Actually, I was dissapointed.

Maybe my expectations were too high after The Dark Knight.

It's not a bad movie, mind, it's probably as good as Batman Begins, but for the first hour and half, I kept on thinking 'yeah yeah, that's all great, but how about some proper action. I'm here to see the Batman'.

Of course, The Joker will never be topped...

Went to see The Dark Knight Rises last night. (Gold Class at Vue Star City). I went on my own, as none of my mates were free and I wanted to see it before I heard too much about it. I will preface this by saying that TDK is my favourite film of all time, and I have been looking forward to the conclusion of the Trilogy since 2008.

It completely knocked me for 6. The film isn't perfect, and as a Batman fan there are a few things that don't fit in with the DC universe, but overall I was really pleased. Bane is at times difficult to understand, but that is also due to the fact that we do actually lip read when we are looking at someone as they speak.

I actually feel a little flat today, as I know that I will never see it for the first time again, but I'm looking forward to seeing it in Imax in a couple of weeks!

Christopher Nolan & Christian Bale I thank you :) Now lets see you tackle Bond!!

I went to see DKR today. Somehow ended up watching Avengers instead. Was a case of talking ourselves out of DKR as the boyfriend hadn't seen the first 2 and I hate large crowds of people haha. But I'm gonna say I was worried the Avengers would impress less second time round and I was pleasantly surprised :)

I didn't think Bane was ever hard to understand... I thought however, he did sound like Will from the Inbetweeners doing his Yoda impression (Fiesty one, you are).

I also found it a bit Inception-y. Too many of the same actors starts to weird me out a little. They were all brilliant, but something always gets me about it.

If a Tree Falls.

This film is a documentary about the Earth Liberation Front and specifically one of there members Daniel McGowan and the events surrounding his trial for terrorism offences.

I watched this film wanting to understand the mindset of the extreme end of the environment lobby. Although this film is sympathetic to the ELF in places I think it ends up painting them in a bad light. It's well put together but lacks a bit of depth at times.

I give it a thought provoking 6/10.

Red Riding Hood (to lower the tone)

watched this a couple of days ago because my sister was like, lets watch a film!

my honest opinion, its a piece of crap,

poor acting (poor Gary Oldman, what was he thinking staring in this movie!!!)

its like twilight level acting (not by Oldman of course!) in a film that had potential of being good! the romance scenes are embarrasing to say the least, cringe worthy, the script in some cases leaves a lot to be desired, its just a little disjointed!

Shame, as Red riding hood, with a horror twist could have been good, just not in this case
IMDB gave it 5.2 which is about right

------------------------------------------

also, to name the worse film i've ever had the displeasure of seeing.........

Catwoman

now some films are bad, but they make you laugh due to how peaky they actually are, but there are some films which are so bad, they almost make you cry and wonder why on Earth anyone would make something so bad, why anyone could be so cruel to put audience through such crap,

the previous film, which occupyed this mantle for me, was the second twilight film, rubbish in all senses, yeah i was expecting it to be bad, but i resigned myself to that, but i never expected it to be horrific!

That said, i never thought i'd see a hollywood film that would better (or worsen if you see my drift) that film,

boy how wrong i was, Catwoman is bad in every conceivable way!

Acting, bad, script bad, fight scenes, bad, romance bad, hally berry, BAD! This is easily, the worse film i've ever seen! that god it was on film 4 and i didn't actually have to pay for it x( x(

if anyone else has seen this movie and requires councilling, i am here for you!

Anyway, seems I actually agree with you more than I thought before hand. I still enjoyed the movie though. The good outweighs the bad greatly for my money. It's not the Dark Knight but it is a worthy finale.

@ Vikz - that movie is pretty famous for being awful with the only slight highlight being that Halle Berry does look rather pleasant in a leather bikini. After a small gawk, turn over from ITV2 and watch something good...

Incredible film. What a way to close it all out. I was not expecting the ending at all. I think it's very fitting and sticks to what Bruce Wayne's idea about Batman as a symbol was since the first film. Brilliant.

It's good, but too many movies have repeated lines. Makes me think the creator was a bit lazy.

And if I'm not mistaken an improvisation as well, as the actor used to be a real life military drill sergeant or something. All the most impressive.

Hired, I believe, as an advisor and lobbied that he could do a better job and got the part. Now engrained in cinema history.

Anyway, just watched the Usual Suspects. You know, I'd never seen it before tonight. But deeply enjoyable. Even knowing the twist it was no where near enough to detract from the film.

Also, dammit, Netflix finally got Zombieland which I just bought on DVD. Okay, it was only £3 for the DVD but annoying nonetheless.

Just found on Netflix, one of my all time favourite films - The Princess Bride.

So many reasons this film is good, yes, it's a kids film but it's got a great cast, good humour, one of the best sword fights in cinema history (the dialogue more than the fight!) good story.... the list goes on.

If you have Netflix and haven't seen it, watch it. Just remember to have an open mind and a childish heart!

watched 'Captain America'. only being stuck on the plane could justify that.

'Mirror, Mirror' - only Julia Roberts' performance made me finish it.

'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' and 'Larry Crowne' - two very good films.

what else?... that one! - 'Bronson'. this is must-see movie I think

Assuming you are talking about the latest First Avenger one, I thought it was just okay. I actually found Iron Man to be awesome, and the rest to be pretty mediocre. Then the Avengers film was the standout as it was awesome.

Anyway, TV Movie, but Stephen King's IT is brilliant. I watched it this afternoon and I'm already seeing Pennywise everywhere I look. I usually avoid the actual end (it ruins it tbh). Tim Curry is amazing in the role, and the first half of the film is brilliantly terrifying.

And he was to make Top Gun 2 which I looked forward to..
