I understand that time which is eaten up by celebrations can be reclaimed by the referee (if, for example, there were originally 90 seconds left and they got wasted).

What I don't know - and I could only know if I had a recording of the live transmission of the game - is exactly how much time was left to play when Everton scored their third goal against Chelsea, how much of that got wasted by the celebrations and how much time was subsequently played beyond the minimum 7 mins that were originally scheduled to be added.

That is, How much of the 90 mins was left when they scored? How much got played after Chelsea restarted? Was time added on to the 7 minutes to make it nearly 9 minutes of play?

It's really frustrating that the amount of time left can't be displayed for everyone to see like in American football or basketball. If the clock needs to be stopped for injuries or goal celebrations, that's so easy to do and instead of adding time on to the end of a half, the game stops when the clock runs down to zero. 90 minutes will have ben played, because the clock won't run when it's not meant to. Stoppages which cause the clock to stop will literally do that. The clock will stop counting down and everyone will know how much time is left.

You can't add time on to a game of football and it should never look like that's what's happening.
I think more important in Everton conceding that late goal was that John Terry was offside, and the linesman either couldn't see it, or chose not to give it.

I decided not to focus on that, since that kind of thing can happen at any time during a game.

This is shaping up to be the best PL season ever. Leicester have a two point lead at the top over Spurs, who have a +9 goal difference over Arsenal, who have a 4 point lead over Man City who have a 6 point lead over Man Utd.
Still to come this season are a Manchester derby, the North London derby, Chelsea vs Spurs, Man City vs Arsenal, Man Utd vs Leicester, West Ham vs Leicester, and Chelsea vs Leicester (on the final day). It's a brave man that predicts the winners this season.

Yeah I've no idea what's going to happen after this! Arsenal should get a massive boost from this weekend, so maybe they will grab points from that in some of our tough games (That being United away, Everton away, Tottenham away, Man City away). Welbeck's late winner really does make anything possible!

I think Tottenham have the best chance now. They walked Arsenal off the pitch at the Emirates so I don't see why they can't do that again. Leicester could crumble at any moment with Mahrez being in and out of short term form lately and that defeat really being a blow. They're still a fantastic team, take nothing away from that, both how long can they go being fearless? Tottenham have been by far the most stable team this season, and I think the most consistent team over the next 12 games or so will win it. The only blip I can remember from Spurs was against Newcastle.

But, they never finish ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League ;)

I think Leicester and Spurs are favourites. Leicester because they only have 12 games left, whereas the rest of the top four have a minimum of 15 (and Man City have 16), and Spurs because they are in excellent form. Spurs also don't have any star players as such. They've got an entire squad full of 7.5/10 players, so injuries will affect them less, whereas the others are screwed if Giroud, Ozil, Sanchez, Vardy, Mahrez, Kante, Aguero, Kompany get injured.

I'm not much of a football fan, though I have a passing interest in keeping up with the sport.

I rather like the idea of a non-big 4 team winning. Blackburn I think are the only ones since they changed the league style. I wanted Newcastle to do it in the late 90s, though I was a bit of a fan of that team. Partly because my mother never really let me or my brothers have football strips from UK teams but she liked the collar on the Newcastle jersey that year so I was allowed one of them. And Kevin Keegan's "I'll love it if we beat them" rant helped.

So while I'll not be bothered too much either way, good luck to Leicester and Spurs. I used to quite like Arsenal when it was Bergkamp, Overmars, Seaman and the like. Something quite pleasant when an underdog (at least to someone who knows little about the sport) looks to be a good shout to winning.

Blackburn are a bit misleading, the money they spent at the time essentially made them close to an early Chelsea/Man City, except the investment stopped before the TV money kicked into overdrive to sustain them.

Leicester are away and clear at the top by five points. It will take a miracle from Spurs to catch them now.
Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd, West Ham. Arsenal are third, Man City are two points behind with a game in hand, West Ham are three points behind, and Man Utd are 5, with a game in hand. With the form Arsenal are in, with three defeats and scraping a draw at Spurs in their last 4, we are looking at not finishing sixth instead of fighting Leicester and Spurs for the title.
I have to say though, anything less than top two should be a sacking for Arsene Wenger given how poor the standard of the league has been. It's on course for the lowest points total for the champions since the inception of the Premier League, and he's still coasting his way to fourth.

Miracle is a bit much. Leicester are still only a coinflip to win the league, 5 points is very little given the tough last 3 games they will have. After Tuesday night everyone was saying they'd blown a big chance etc and were only 3rd favourites. Spurs have played pretty well the past two games, unlucky to come away with only a point. Plenty of life left in this title race yet.

I think Leicester are in a very strong position. They're averaging just over 2 points per game, which actually isn't that much, normally it would be barely enough for a Champion's league place... it just so happens that this season everyone else is doing less than that. Leicester's points average is kept up over 30 games, pretty consistently home and away, and against top clubs or bottom. They also have only league games, no cups, so can focus 100% on their remaining 9 games. I would be very surprised if they don't manage to keep at least that average, adding 18pts to reach 78 (dropping 9). That means Arsenal need to win all their 9 games (never gonna happen), Man City need at least 8 wins and a draw (very doubtful with their away form), and Spurs could drop 4 points, needing 8 wins one loss, or 7 wins 2 draws (again, very doubtful with their fixtures including tough Europa League vs Dortmund).

Leicester just basically need to keep on doing what they have been doing, everyone else needs to suddenly increase their points average over the last games by 50%. I'm not saying it's easy or in the bag, but they really are in a commanding position right now

With a resurgent West Ham 3 just points behind, even that's questionable... though Arsenal being Arsenal they will first screw up their chances to win the league and then salvage 4th when all hope seems lost

At last we have a title race in the Scottish Premiership between Celtic - Aberdeen and the mighty Heart of Midlothian, usually Celtic win the league by early March.

US National Team NEEDS to win tonight against Guatemala to keep our World Cup hopes alive. It's really unbelievable that we lost to them last Friday. I think we had not lost to them since the 80's! If we lose tonight, our chances of making the World Cup are roughly 10%. We need to keep making it to the World Cup to keep the game growing here. MLS ratings are still rising, attendance is still rising, and falling short now would hurt that.

Don't misunderstand me, Leicester have been really good this season, but when the chasing pack constantly throw points away like they have tonight, it's incredible really.

How can a team in second who need to win every remaining game to have a chance draw 1-1 with West Brom at home?

That's the beauty of this season. I wasn't even disappointed when Leicester beat my team 4-0 on Sunday, I really want them to win this!

Leicester winning the league is massive. Not just for the team and fans but for football in general. All the money spent by the 'top 4' and a team who were battling relegation just 12 months prior are now about to be crowned champions of England. And on a fraction of the budget, too.

Someone who cost just £800,000 has won player of the season, whereas you have the likes of Sterling who cost £49m and is as poor as the right midfielder in my local team.

Yes, other teams have thrown away points, but isn't that the case every season? Leicester have performed when it mattered and their consistency has been astounding. I can't wait to watch the Man Utd game this weekend.

To be fair to Spurs (which as an Arsenal fan kills me), they hit the woodwork four or five times last night. Wasn't a huge amount more they could do to score again.

Leicester and Spurs are the only teams fighting for the league with anything close to consistency this season.
Man City were doing fine until they lost Aguero and Kompany and publicly half sacked their manager in January. Arsenal were doing fine until January, and have taken 25 points from 15 league games since. Man Utd were doing fine until they were so ravaged with injury they had Borthwick-Jackson and Fosu-Mensah and Rashford starting, and Carrick playing centreback.

I know Spurs were unlucky, but I'm talking more in general this season.

As an extra, the City-Real semi-final first leg I've just watched was possibly the most boring semi I've ever seen.

Speaking as a Saints fan, that was probably the most Pochettino thing I've ever seen. Dominate possession, play excellent football, create enough chances to win 5 games, waste most of them, only take a 1 goal lead, then throw it away with a sloppy lapse of concentration towards the end.

True it happens less frequently at Spurs but it definitely had a whiff of familiarity about it.

Just read a story on some guy who bet 50p at 5000/1 on Leicester to win the league.... but cashed out for 45p after the first game!

So not only did he miss out on £2500, but he ended up 5p down on his original bet!

No longer will I feel bad about cashing out.

He did OK. He would have received his stake back as well so he got 95p back. He's actually 45p in profit

The cash out figure is a total return , so he lost 5p. It's an indication of how terrible the value of cashout actually is - that Leicester won, were top of the league and the bet has actually decreased in value. That said, apparently the company are looking for him to offer a consolation so he may well end up in some profit eventually :)

Title decider notwithstanding, the lack of discipline in yesterday's game was shocking. Brawling, stamping, scratching eyes out, the works.
At one point I wasn't wondering whether Spurs will win, but whether they'll have enough first-choice players available for the remaining games given NINE 8O of them were booked.

Doesn't matter now, but at a least a couple of them are looking at multiple game bans (Lamela for stamping on Fabregas and Dembele for trying to scratch Costa's eye out). There was a nasty brawl at the end too, not sure who was involved exactly.

As a neutral it was an amazing game. Four lovely goals, Chelsea doing a textbook job of winding up Spurs by going in hard in the first five minutes and then stopping, Spurs absolutely losing their minds, a tunnel brawl involving the sub keepers. Even without the Leicester narrative, it was probably the best game of the season.

Also, Eden Hazard's goal was truly brilliant. Superb vision from Costa to sell the defence and play him in, and the finish was amazing. Doubly so since Hazard's had a terrible season and is lacking confidence in front of goal.
Fair play to Diego Costa too, for all his awful actions over the course of the season, he was about the only one who didn't get involved in anything except to try and break it up.

Congrats to Leicester. Not sure if its because of their own merits, or because the usual top teams have been all terrible.
I have the feeling that the EPL level has decreased a lot. Just look at how City (last english team remaining in the CL) fell to Madrid in the CL. Madrid played a pretty bad match yet they looked comfortable

Not necessary, aren't EPL clubs playing more matches than other major leagues clubs? Also competition might be tougher in EPL tha in La Liga, so for example Madrid might use reserve squad in in league, than use their main players in Europe.

No they arent playing more matches.
All the results and stats suggest that la liga is the toughest league, it has 3 out of the 5 top teams in the world and only bayern is at their level or similar. No one can afford to use the full reserve squad because it would be a guaranteed loss

tbf while other teams have underperformed, it's not like Leicester have won it with a record low total, they're on for 80 points which is a phenomenal achievement in itself.

La Liga has the most quality at the top but toughest league overall is arguable, there's a reason why the likes of Messi and Ronaldo can put up ludicrous goal totals year after year.
