Of course, looks like its hopalong Ronaldo !

Ronaldo off injured
Re: The Official Football Thread
I don't think the commentators quite appreciate how much and how many spectators really dislike Ronaldo.

I think they do but can't say! Its the contempt he shows when he doesn't get the ball or someone misses a shot. Behavior he showed towards Iceland when the drew was despicable.flyboy10 wrote:I don't think the commentators quite appreciate how much and how many spectators really dislike Ronaldo.

Portugal achieve their target, so another 30 mins, then penalties. I think Wales would have been more entertaining to be honest!!

Not that I'm supporting France, but I've been calling for Martial for half the game. France have controlled the ball well but not run at Portugal.

I've watched every Portugal game, and nearly every game in the tournament. Where Portugal have missed out on flare, they have more than made up with shear determination.Option or Prime wrote:Embarrassing for France !! Team that hardly won a game win the tournament.
Bit like when Greece won it.

It would please me to see Ronaldo trip over and land on his face.
Never paid much attention to him before but I can see why he is so disliked now.

Most of the best teams were on the same side of the draw. What chance would Portugal have had against Germany or Italy?

Why? What has he done wrong in this game other than get a genuine injury and then motivate his team like crazy from the sideline?Black_Flag_11 wrote:It would please me to see Ronaldo trip over and land on his face.

He had no business being on the pitch talking to the referee after he had gone off IMO.Asphalt_World wrote:Why? He may be one of the best players in the world but it seems to me that no one is more aware of it than himself, and he acts accordingly.

As captain he has every right to stand at the side shouting. He wasn't red carded. He shows the passion a lot of players don't.Black_Flag_11 wrote:He had no business being on the pitch talking to the referee after he had gone off IMO.Asphalt_World wrote:Why? Regardless, there is no rule that even stops the kit man getting up and shouting orders.
I really do think him standing their helping his team the only way he could is a total none issue.

I'm pretty sure there was a point where he actually walked onto the pitch though and right to the scene of a foul. I could be wrong on that though, and IMO that wasn't on.

This game, he has done little wrong. However, his behavior in the tournament has been temperamental, disrespectful and petulant. Remember they could only draw with Iceland and he refused to shake hands with anyone in their team! Any wonder he is disliked?Asphalt_World wrote:Why? I agree, that was not a good moment for him. But then few top sportsmen are perfect throughout their entire career.Option or Prime wrote:This game, he has done little wrong. I could add that a couple asked Ronaldo via social media for a signed shirt they could auction to raise money for their baby to fly to America for life saving medical work. He sent them a signed shirt and boots. He told them to keep them as he also included a cheque for 100,000 Euros to cover all their costs and more.

Plus my questioning was because Black Flag had not paid much attention to him before this game, but in this game he can now see why he's so disliked. It confused me a little. He's free to have his opinion of course.Option or Prime wrote:This game, he has done little wrong. However, his behavior in the tournament has been temperamental, disrespectful and petulant. Non! Merrths
Re: The Official Football Thread
Well done Portugal, I feel miffed for France. But if they were the better team, they should have proved it on the pitch. Griezmman didn't have a great night unfortunately.
I think France got a bit disorganized by the two ref faults in quick succession, the two yellow cards just before the goal.
And Pepe, I can't stand the guy. People that act just to get the ref to penalize the other players are disgusting. I wouldn't let him play in my team

Re: The Official Football Thread
IMO Clattenburg's wrong decision one minute before the the goal did affect the french defences. I think they got frustrated, therefore distracted. It was a matter of minutes tha Portugal would score, and they did.

Re: The Official Football Thread
If we are talking about the handball it was an incredibly easy mistake to make and was only obvious on a slow mo replay, so a bit harsh!Siao7 wrote:ExactlySarhan wrote:IMO Clattenburg's wrong decision one minute before the the goal did affect the french defences. Re: The Official Football Thread
I thought it was wrong at the moment I saw it, before the replay, but I can give the ref the benefit of the doubt obviously. Bad enough for me that the Portugese player didn't admit to it though. There was also the other card just moments before that. Re: The Official Football Thread
BTW I always support the underdog, it's only with Portugal that I had a problem. Just as I got over with the presence of Pepe, a player who's behavior is usually a disgrace, thus I cant stand the guy, here comes Quaresma trying to snap Koscielny's head off, and it's all away from the ball, just to gain some seconds. Is this the Portuguese football style?

If you want to win the final of the European Championships, you can't let your mind switch off simply because of one ref decision.Sarhan wrote:That I would never ever expect to happen.Siao7 wrote:I thought it was wrong at the moment I saw it, before the replay, but I can give the ref the benefit of the doubt obviously. True. This is why Portugal won the match.Asphalt_World wrote:

I also said that I would never expect the Portuguese player to admit it was his handball.
On the other hand, how far should this go? Materazzi level? I think this subject is worth the discussion.
Re: The Official Football Thread
Mind games and trash talking; it works in some sports, but this is just wrong. Swearing each others families to get other players upset, sneaky hits, bites, kicks, acting, flopping, etc. This is not the best advertisement for the sport.Sarhan wrote:True. bah... how long is it until the season starts again? I wanna see Zlatan in action for us....

Re: The Official Football Thread
I think Football League starts 3 weeks time, Premiership in 4. Arsenal vs Liverpool is on the 14th of August, so definitely by then.SDLRob wrote:bah... how long is it until the season starts again? I wanna see Zlatan in action for us....
I personally cannot wait to see Middlesborough play. They've signed Victor Valdes, Viktor Fischer, Gaston Ramirez, Alvaro Negredo already, and are in advanced talks with Neven Subotic. That's superb work for a promoted team to have done 6 weeks before the end of the transfer window.
