F1 drivers nicknames

Post by Kolby »

Hi guys can you list most if not all nicknames of F1 drivers you ever heard of?

This is what I have in mind:

Fernando:Fred
Vettel:Vettel
Jenson:No Grip
Michael Schumacher:Schumy
Alain Prost:The Professor
Mika Hakinnen:The flying fin
Ayrton Senna:The Genius
Gilles Villeneuve: Crazy/Fastest driver in the world/Salute Gilles Villeneuve(I wonder what that means)
Even the best of drivers crash, stay safe and be responsible!

Off the top of my head

James Hunt "The Shunt"
Niki Lauda The Rat
Vittorio Brambilla The Monza Gorilla
Ronnie Petersen "Mad Ronald" (coined I believe by David Hobbs)
Carlos Reuteman Lole
Jo Siffert "Seppi"
Mike "The Bike" Hailwood
John Surtees Il Grande John
Nigel Mansell Il Leone
Denis Hulme The Bear

I'll go and have a little think now.

I think there are some alternatives.

Rosberg = Britney

Schumacher = Scum-ball/Scummy

Vettel = Michael

Let's not forget Hunt the shunt

Brambilla the Gorilla (Was it actually "Vittorio Bramilla, The Monza Gorilla"?)

Who was it that Hunt used to call "Hermann"?

Button has said one nickname of his is "The real JB", coming from when he jokingly called himself that when speaking to Pierce Brosnan. It apparently stuck with at least a few friends.

I like Micheal for Vettel, much funnier than Vettel, its more subtle.
I also like Britney for Rosberg.

those are the ones that make me laugh. Webber should be officially put in charge of drivers nicknames.

Daniel Ricciardo's nickname in his younger days was/is "Disco Dan", or just "Disco" - the boy likes a party apparently.

I think the only driver who doesn't have and doesn't need an additional nickname is Heidfeld.

Quick-Nick, the man-bag man? Still the holder of the GFoS hillclimb record and should have taken the BMW round Nurburgring a bit faster for that record too.

I always wonder where Checo came from?
Also Teflonso?

The ones I use aren't too interesting
Butbut - Button
Young farmer/Grojy - Grosjean
Arsehat - Perez (no I don't like him)
Urgh - Vettel (I just make an unhappy noise)
Britney - Rosberg
Hammy - Hamilton
Everyone else I just say their name or the short version.
