Great job from Nico, 148 laps in an F1 car...the fitness these guys have is amazing.

Massa's lap will either be a flash in the pan or very worrying for everyone else.

The latter I'm sure.
Not a flash in the pan by any means.
The scary thing is that the aero stuff is not on the car at all.

They said the same of Brawn...

Need to compare it to last year's testing times really.

I would be shocked if massa run was not on fumes.
You really need to look at consistent pace over long runs to get reasonable info on pace because then you knowtey are carrying fuel.

Short runs provide way tooany variables

True, but I think Brawn were the exception rather than the rule.

Definitely, will be interesting to see what their long run pace is like. Lotus still look very quick, though they had problems today.

Important day for Lewis more than almost anyone tomorrow, as he still needs to get to grips with a totally new car, and hasn't been able to get much time on the track so far.

I was so tempted when I saw the initial lap times. I think the odds were something like 100/1. But I believed in the trust it's-only-testing rule, and on that occasion lost out,

Drivers and teams are getting different data re: delta between compounds, and it will change day-to-day. Tough to say unless you've noted down who is on what tires from when to when and can go back to the lap charts to study. If I had a whole day to do it I would, but too much riding to do. I'm sure a helpful analyst will supply the info in summary after tomorrow.

If the road was straight Nico could have driven from the circuit gates to Toulouse today...or, in other words, across the whole of Spain. Meaningless but interesting nonetheless!

I actually would like Ferrari to give Massa the chance of fighting for the WDC if the car is capable, I know nearly everyone regards Alonso as a fantastic driver (and quite rightly too) but it has been team Alonso for 3 years now, I think it's time they give Massa preferential treatment in the team (or at least after the summer break, up until then it's equal oppertunities like Mclaren do with their drivers, obviously this is based on how the drivers are doing in the championship table), as in 2008 Massa can fight for the championship if he has the car, and there is a slight possibility (after all it's only testing!) that Ferrari have a good car this year.

Considering the weather in Toulouse and through Pyrenees, he was right doing boring circles in Jerez again and again...

Not going to happen, Santander will make sure of this.
Unless, God forbid it, Alonso has a big accident, 1999-Schumacher-style, which would put him out of the chase for 4-5 races, and then maybe Massa will step up as a title shot replacement. But that's an awful way to make your dreams come true, I'm sure even Massa doesn't want that.
Nope, Massa will be no. 2 at Ferrari and that's it. The only way he'll get front billing is by moving to a midfield squad, as a team leader. Like at Toro Rosso or something.

148 laps for Rosberg, that's like 2 races in 1 day. Granted, a lot of them not on full-speed, but wow...

I wouldn't mind them backing Alonso if say after the summer break there was a big difference in points so it makes sense to back the driver with more points, I just don't know they not give equal treatment upto a certain point in the season (such as summer break) and then back one driver, one example say Alonso did have an accident that put him out of the season for a few races (god forbid as I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone) but if they have backed that driver, the driver left would then have preferential treatment but unlikely to win the WDC so they end the season with no WDC or WCC.

Let's be realistic, they'll back Alonso from day one. Which is why Alonso permitted himself to be so magnanimous and claim he would help Massa in a fight for WDC, should he be in that position - because he knows that's not going to happen. The team will likely start pushing buttons every time Massa would be in front of Alonso, even in Australia, I think.

Accident variant aside (again, God forbid it) Massa's chance would probably be a big string of DNF's for Alonso and only Alonso. But Ferrari have shown more than decent reliability last seasons, so...

I know they will, but what happens if Alonso screws up in Austraila qualifying and Massa gets pole, they would still try and maximise Alonso even though Massa would out score Alonso (obviously unless Massa crashed out or through mechanical problems but as you said the Ferrari was had great reliability), but if this happened at the first five races (which it just wouldn't but is always a possibility) it would make sense to start to back Massa, but Ferrari would still be 100% Alonso which if I'm honest doesn't make complete sense.

For anyone interested in hearing a bit about the developments on the cars I highly recommend watching Ted's Notebook on the Sky Sports site (free to watch) for today. He's got a bunch of photos taken by Sutton showing some of the new parts of the cars in great detail.

It's not available on the site yet but should be on there soon, it'll be called "Teds Notebook - Day 3" and will be here: http://www1.skysports.com/formula1/video/
