For me, if Raikkonen hadn't done such a poor job (definitely in comparison to his team mate and mainly because if he'd delivered in qualifying, he'd definitely have won more than just one race), I'd rate him inside the top 3, but because of that, I've got to put him 4th, behind Hamilton, Vettel and Alonso.

All votes have to be counted, even the stupid ones. If any votes are discounted, however illogical or biased they are, then the poll has been influenced and is a reflection of the poll collator's opinion (as votes he/she considers 'wrong' will be shaped by their opinion)

It should be noted, last time this poll was run people openly declared their intention to 'sabotage' it by posting random order lists etc... yet the forum pretty much universally agreed the end result was a reflection of public opinion. So long as there is a high enough proportion of sensible votes the votes of the insane are drowned out.

Whoa, where did that come from? Just to put some perspective to my opinions. People create polls and threads asking for the best of this and the best of that all the time and I dont have a problem with that even though they are more useless than this thread. And guess why? Because I have immense respect for your contribution to this forum and the stats you have collected over the years and share with us from time to time. Dolomite, i've participated on the last 3 of these and have always found it interesting to see the stock of the various drivers go up and down over the years... Yes, this poll won't come up with how good the drivers are, but it WILL come up with how good we perceive the drivers are. And the more people that reply (even with biased views) the more they will likely reflect the views of those in the sport (who will always have biased views themselves).

Ferrari, Mclaren & Red Bull drivers usually score the most points (personally i never understand how Webber scores so highly), but Massa was hit hard last year, it'll be interesting to see how much he has bounced back after a strong end to the season. Where has Raikkonen fed back in, Who out of Perez, Hulk & Maldonado has done better?

I don't argue too much with people on this forum, but the last person to irritate me was the same one who irritated you, so i advise you ignore them, and just carry on doing what you do best, stats!

Maybe, the stats aren't scientifically proven, but they are interesting...

Mike......

On top of my vote, I can't believe we've lost who is probably one of the best members this forum has seen in it's time because of the complete pettiness of one person. If you don't like the timing of the thread or it's content just ignore it and get on with life. Don't start whinging about it for no apparent reason.

Dolo, I hope you return for 2013. At least visit the in depth section where your comments will always be appreciated by everyone. Thanks Alien for keeping this up on his behalf too.

VERY IMPORTANT
You need to copy and paste the names from the original post so they match EXACTLY to the the spelling of the original list (and capitalisation) as the system compares data strings and adds a vote to the matching result

so:

Paul di Resta is differ to Paul Di Resta

and

Kimi Räikkönen is different to Kimi Raikkonen

Not to mention typos or spelling errors if you manually enter them. The easiest solution is to copy the list from DOLOMITE's original post and then rearrange them then they are certain to match exactly. If your vote does not match exactly then it won't be counted because the system will not process it (I should be able to compensate for capitalisation but typos, spelling errors and not putting the accents on letters is not possible by automation)

It's difficult to rate the lower teams, but I've done my best, I Think Glock has done a great job this year! The Big names towards the bottom are by virtue of either being thoroughly outperformed or being in General a menace to the track!!! Maldonado has been hit and miss, but being able to change the perception from a Pay Driver to one who deserves his spot on tale t and speed is why he is so high up. Vettel would be lower due to the number of mistakes but managed to win the title, which must count for something! Overall, I have also tried to rate the drivers in terms of improvement. Perez, Kobayashi and Di Resta have not really improved much since the season Begun, whereas Maldonado and Hulkenburg have improved over the year. Most improved Driver goes to Lewis Hamilton. Who has Reduced the number of costly mistakes he has made down massively from the last two years. Jenson has been wildly inconsistent and wa never even close to challenging for the title after Bahrain!

In any case, this poll will obviously reflect the bias induced by short memories and recent races. If you take the poll just before the beginning of the new season, it would make much more sense but still the car being a variable conundrum cannot be overcome. A more accurate answer would be to club them in tiers I think.
He does it before and after every season to see where things stand, you may think it has bias but due to the number of contributers the results are not screwed and can be quite fair on how people rate the drivers
Errr of course its bias...its based on opinion.....
The issue of bias in this context is generally thought to be on eof nationality - i.e the majority of posters are british so favour british drivers. It doesn't seem to follow that though Alonso tops the polls consistently and although Hamilton gets a high placing, it's not because he's British, it's because he's good!

It absolutely is opinions, yes - that's exactly what I'm after. How good to people think these drivers are. The WDC tells us who won, but it's the difference between that table and the results of this poll that make for interesting reading. PLus who's had a good enough season to increase their stock and vice versa.
But useless nonethless. It is a no brainer that PDLR could not increase his stock and Vettel's couldnt dip any. As I said, this exercise at this point is heavily biased based on the outcome of the season and recent races and you can bury your head in the sand as much as you like, but that is not going to change. People's opinions are most meaningful when they are taken farthest from the event in question, so that is why I said it makes sense to run this exercise before the next season starts. Since you claim to do it before and after every season, have you noticed any difference between the results even though there was no racing in between? And if yes, I wonder why you do it at the end of every season as I already explained.
Scientifically that's not true. Although you are right that at this point the last race might have a big impact, that doesn't mean the longer the better. If you wait too long people would forget about 2012 in specific and rank the drivers depending on what they think of them in general. That's not what this thread wants is it ? Its supposed to rank the drivers based on 2012.

And on a separate topic, DOLOMITE please don't quit. :)

Lewis Hamilton - very unlucky, could be 1st but no way to tell
Kimi Raikkonen - very consistent but slow in the quali
Jenson Button - showed for a few races, invisible in the most of them
Mark Webber - the same
Felipe Massa - came alive at the last few races, unfortunately, had to bend over for Alonso

It is very important that people follow the instructions in the original thread. This is already quite a time consuming job collating all the data and not following the instructions either only increases the amount of work or makes it impossible for your vote to be counted. For example:

Fernando Alonso/Jenson Button
Nico Rosberg/Mark Webber/Felipe Massa
Sergio Perez
Nico Hulkenberg/Timo Glock
Paul di Resta/Heikki Kovalainen
Vitaly Petrov
Bruno Senna
Kamui Kobayashi/Pastor Maldonado
Charles Pic/Daniel Ricciardo
Jean-Eric Vergne
Romain Grosjean
Jerome D'Ambrosio
Pedro de la Rosa
Narain Karthikeyan

Michael Schumacher (class of his own)
All drivers need to be listed on individual rankings for your vote to be counted, and make your list CONTINUOUS without spaces.

Please add comments AFTER the list. The list must ONLY contain the drivers' name, copied and pasted EXACTLY from DOLOMITE's original list

Needless to say, but votes like this cannot and will not be counted. ALL DRIVERS must be listed, including Jerome D'Ambrosio who a few people have missed out (because they didn't copy and paste the original list!

This must be so frustrating for you! I can't believe how many people cannot follow simple instructions

i know right! it isn't hard, but it just goes to show how many people don't even read the OP before they post, explains a lot that's for sure

Lewis Hamilton - OK final year at Macca, still too many crahes and retirements however
Paul di Resta - Good solid drives for FI again this season
Kimi Räikkönen - Good year, it looked like he was going to be upstaged by Grojean early on, but he's establised team leader at Lotus now
Pastor Maldonado - Suprise package of the year for me, future world champion material if he can cut out the mistakes
Nico Rosberg - Got a win, dissapointing 2nd half of the year, although he can blame the car for that
Nico Hulkenberg - some good drives towards end of the year
Sergio Perez - Very solid year, leading Sauber driver - deserves a drive with McLaren
Fernando Alonso - I hate ranking FA this high, but he did do well to stay in the championship for so long with a poor car
Heikki Kovalainen - the beat driver for the new teams, travisty if he's not in F1 next year
Romain Grosjean - some good quali performances, but too many race incidents for me
Pedro de la Rosa - Solid performace in a very bad car
Jerome D'Ambrosio - I've put him around the middle,as can't really judge him on 1 race
Daniel Ricciardo - Solid performace in a midfield car
Sebastian Vettel - Solid performace in a very good car
Timo Glock - Wasted at Marussia
Kamui Kobayashi - KK disapointing this year, he's become too passive for me, just not like him
Charles Pic - An OK year, I would like to see him in a quicker car
Felipe Massa - Came back towards the end of the year, doesn't make up for the fact that he was dire early on
Narain Karthikeyan - Has had a difficult job with the car
Michael Schumacher - Shame he's going, I was enjoying watching him making a fool of himself
Bruno Senna - He has the name, that's all he has
Vitaly Petrov - Not in same league as Heikki
Jean-Eric Vergne - Far too many Q1 knockouts
Mark Webber - Never fails to make the best car on the grid look mediocre
   and you call yourself unbiased? i'm a button fan but your reasoning if frankly laughable,

Frankly, it was a little confusing whether you copy and pasted the names and started moving them around or wrote the drivers names yourself because Jean-Éric Vergne was Jean-Eric Vergne and Sergio Pérez was Sergio Perez. Yet Kimi Räikkönen is correctly spelled with the ä and ö letters.
