It was announced on Sky that Joshua Hill had finished on the podium in his F3000 (or something similar) race. Wonder if we'll get our first 3rd generation Champion in a few years.

Weird seeing these names in single seaters!

F3 Euroseries

Tom Blomqvist
Carlos Sainz jnr

They both look to have some talent but we'll only find out as they step up to race at international levels

Greg Mansell is apparently now focusing on cycling.

Leo Mansell doesn't seem to have much going on this year but might also be into cycling. Seems their motorposrts career has peaked.

Do you have any information on Schumacher's son or Häkkinen's son? Didn't they both race in karting at some point in the past??

Hugo, the son of Mika Häkkinen does karting at the moment. He's now 11 years old.

Schu's son raced under the alias... this is great...."'Mika Krauthausen"!!!

Mika's son Hugo - no doubting the genes:

Seen both Mansells at Knockhill in 06 i think doing Formula BMW. Neither were very high up and honestly looked poor. Josh Hill isn't bad though.

Slightly off topic but a driver to look out for is Lewis Williamson who drove for Mark Webber's team (don't know which Formula) either last year or this year, but the boy has talent imo

I wonder what you guys this - nature vs. nurture? Is it really their DNA that makes them capable of becoming racing drivers or that they've started at an early age and had excellent coaching from their racing legend fathers?

I think both in as much that it's probably sort of gene related but as to coaching as such i doubt that they do actually train them, but having a famous F1 dad probably opens more doors to the media and sponsorship than a normal up and coming driver.

I think money helps a lot. Also they may get some tips but ultimately they will only get to the top if they are quick enough

Formula Progeny sounds cheesy. I liked the Formula Offspring title better. Food for thought I guess, but otherwise I have no contribution to this thread.

yeah I think the name, money and opportunity will get you so far, but at some point you need the talent if you are to progress. Looks like the Mansell boys are a case in point. Competent but neither set the world on fire and when they got to a seriously competitive intetrantional series, they peaked. To go further considering their results would have been farcical. Fair enough to have ago, but respect due if they actually called it a day.

On a similar note Freddie Hunt tried racing but decided it wasn't for him.

Good one

MatthewBrabham

Doing well in the series he is in (US F2000) but I don't know how competitive that is.

Jolyon Palmer is in GP2.
Dad Jonathan drove for some small outfits in the 80's, he owns MSV - as in Brands, Oulton, Snetterton etc.

Jody Scheckter

Sons Tomas and Toby both race/raced , but I'm not sure what they're up to at the moment.

Toby seems to have stopped in 2009, Tomas was still doing Indy in 2011.

All of whom will have been developed by Sebastian Marko, and will be driving for a team run by Sebastian Horner, in a league run by Sebastian Ecclestone.

This place would just love all those Sebastians running around

Yep - and is still linked to Lotus Renault apparently.

He looked pretty hand in some of the junior categories:

2005 Formula Renault = 9th
2006 Spanish F3 = 4th
2007 Spanish F3 = 3rd
2008 EuroSeries F3000 = 1st

Plus class wins in the Andros Trophy and some impressive Le Mans results.

Looks like F1 has passed though, he's 30 now and not racing in single seaters for 4 years.

Hmm, a shame. I'd have loved to see N.Prost and B.Senna in the Lotus Renault

I've just been checking up on him and I reckon he's another one who has gone as far as he's going to:

2007: Formula Palmer Audi = 11th
2008: Formula Palmer Audi = 8th
2009: Formula Two = 19th
2010: British F3 = 17th
2011: Formula Two = 7th
2012: GP3...

Not the makings of an F1 driver it seems.

Now planning Le Mans with the old chap.

It's a measure of how rapid Max Verstappen's rise to F1 has been that his name isn't even mentioned in this thread, despite the fact it's only two-and-a-half years old.
