Passes for position in China

Does anyone know how many passes were made for position in China by each of the top 10 drivers?

I'd like to understand who the pass-meisters are.

I was thinking about this also, I'm sure somebody on here has access to those figures.

i think the main 3 were Webber, Hamiton and Button as the likes of Perez, Kobayashi, and Kimi went backwards and Schumi got a DNF, obviously Rosberg raced and won from pole so

I would add Grosjean to that list. he had an immense race yesterday, especially that battle with maldonado.

Real passes vs DRS passes would be interesting to know also if anyone has stats

Perhaps time to call them non-DRS passes as opposed to real passes? They're a part of Formula 1 now.

As JB said the DRS wasnt as useful as expected, dirty air seemed to really effect drivers more than normal.

The FIA decreased the length of the DRS activation zone, which explains the lack of passing in the first half of the race. It wasn't until later, when the different race strategies resulted in large differences in tire wear, that passing became easier.

Others were using KERS to counter DRS and in many cases, there was just a train of cars where they were nearly all using DRS at the same time. But yes, sometimes the cars seemed to breeze by and other times they'd make no in-roads at all. All very unclear.

DRS did have an effect as it allowed drivers to close right up on the back straight. This didn't directly lead to a pass, but it did culminate in numerous passes into the turn 6 hairpin (the next biggest braking zone). Quite often the cars were side by side going into the last corner, causing the defending car to take a less-than-ideal line through the fast corner, compromising their run down the start/finish straight and allowing the car behind to get past or at least stay close into turn 1. Turn 1 is not a big enough braking zone for an overtake (though some managed it), but the cars were often very close through there (or even side by side), allowing a pass into the next braking zone at turn 6. DRS did have an effect, but the results were often seen a few corners later.

Don't know the actual number of passes, seemed like more than usual though, didn't it? Be interesting.

Oh and don't forget the annoying little Kraut, he moved up quietly for a while.

Webber was passing a lot. I like his style this year - the pass over Vettel must have stung a lot...

How did Vettel jump up so many spots?

I'm not a fan of Vettel, in fact I think he only just scrapes into the top 5 drivers on the grid, but the aggressive posts directed towards him recently is becoming ridiculously tedious and in some cases down right offensive.

'How did Vettel jump up so many spots?'

Two-stop strategy, coupled with decent race pace. I'm sure he would have taken 5th prior to the race but can understand his frustration, having run as high as second toowards the end of it.

Look for the three-stoppers for overtakes - they frequently lost position to the two-stoppers in the pits and therefore had to make the on-track passes whilst on fresher rubber.

Those later laps were great to watch from second position back.

Electing for a three stop strategy in a race where others are on a two stop means committing to try overtaking the people on two stops. So we would expect all the the stoppers to have made overtakes

If anyone has the Webber pass on Vettel uploaded someone, link! ;)

I want to watch it and laugh evilly, completely ignoring the context of the move in favour of the symbolism of it.

Hey, I was complimenting the annoying little git on his overtaking.
