The infamous move by Hamilton started to crumble the Hamilton-Rosberg friendship. Saw a similar move of his in Turkey...ditto!

I'd forgotten how blatant Hamiltons push was at the start of that race!

Might be difficult to use a slick for a stint when offered that!
Anyone in or near North Wales interested in an RC car racing tournament?

See that from the US GP onwards, during qualifying, lap times set by drivers who run through double yellow flag sectors will be automatically deleted.

Seems reasonable, but I wonder if they need to look at the other side and whether more should be done to prevent drivers taking bigger risks and bringing out yellow flags. Or is it right that a driver with a good first lap can benefit from a mistake later on in the session? Thought I’d go ahead and just preempt the questions before our title contenders benefits / lose out as I’m sure it won’t take long.

Wow Bottas taking a new engine again. He surely is getting a good parting gift from Mercedes.

What on earth is going on with these Mercedes PUs? Hamilton will have to take another one eventually too, at this rate.

I guess that puts to bed the nonsense people were saying at Russia about Bottas taking the penalty to hold Verstappen up and Merc treating him badly.

Merc clearly have a problem with the ICE.

Any word if Bottas penalty is because of reliability concerns? It obviously looks that way and is worrying for Hamilton.

Edit: just seen Toto interviewed on Sky. Problems since mid season. They understand what the issue is a lot more now but still not much durability. I’m guessing that means Hamilton will need another ICE.

Simon Lazenby asked if it was something to do with air valves. Toto said he’s being fed a lot of bullsh*t.

I would speculate that they're using Bottas as a testing platform to try out different parts to try to get to the bottom of their engine gremlins. Not ideal in the midst of the closest inter-team championship battle in years.

Another good result for Verstappen then, even if Hamilton wins then Verstappen will be 2nd with 2 Redbull tracks coming up. I would have taken the PU for Bottas at Mexico and maximised the result this weekend, the same with Hamilton and his PU in Turkey. Would rather have two 1-2s and Verstappen 3rd and just take the two penalties at a track we all know RB will dominate.

Yeah that would have been better, you have to wonder if the decisions have been made with a certain amount of necessity.

I have zero insight other than from what I've read on this forum, but this seems supremely embarrassing for Mercedes - or is it just that they've (understandably) had to go over the edge (pushing performance over reliability) in the competition with Red Bull this year while (whilst?) they had sufficient engineering margins in the recent past?

Or maybe it's partly because of the loss of "party mode"?

Surely both Mercedes & Red Bull will give priority to driver's world title as it does have more prestige than constructor's gold.

I'm struggling to understand why Bottas has had grid penalties in 3 of the last 4 races. The first one was understandable, the next one now becomes questionable now there is yet another here. I know they may be for different things, but they surely would just put more in at one race if they were concerned about reliability, or is it even possible to help Hamilton out by reducing the slight chance of Bottas beating him? I know this seems extreme, but so does 3 penalties over 4 weekends with nothing being related to damage in recent races.

The engine in Monza had problems in Russia so they had to send it back to the factory for tests. Thats why Bottas took a new engine in Russia, now the engine from Monza has been confirmed it can no longer be used.

Surely this makes the Russia penalty less questionable because it shows they’ve got issues with the ICE and didn’t just do it to block Max?

If Bottas beats Hamilton, they’ll just move him out the way.

You can’t put more of the same component in at one race if I understand it correctly. If they put another new ICE in tomorrow then they’d have to take the penalty for that in Mexico.

Can you read anything into the fact that most were quicker this in P1 than in P2? I notice Mercedes weren’t. Not sure if that suggests some engine setting at play in one of the sessions.

It's the gold that keeps the boat afloat.

Is the drivers championship more prestigious than the constructors ? I'm not sure it is.

Verstappen and Hamilton continuing the mind games against each other:

Verstappen cuts ahead of Hamilton in the queue on the out lap so Hamilton cuts ahead again entering the final corner.

Interestingly, the TV only chose to show the second half to this, making it look like it was just Hamilton irking Verstappen, rather than the tit for tat that it was.

I really hope Bottas needed his engine change this particular weekend because Perez looks on it and his race pace is good. If it's a 2v1 scenario like expected I could well see a Verstappen win with Bottas out the way.

I don't think Horner or Toto will care more for the constructor's title over Max or Lewis winning the title. The WDC has more bragging rights when compared to constructor's (even though WCC is where the money is).
