Long run down to turn one. Not sure what the even numbered side of the grid is like but probably isn’t too bad as second does take the lead here fairly often.

Verstappen to take Hamilton at the start before Red Bull mess up their strategy and Hamilton wins

Statistically, either Hamilton or Max will win tomorrow as out of the last 30 grand prix here, 27 winners have started from the front row.

Anyone know the other three? Verstappen in 2016. Alonso 2013 maybe?

Maldonado 2012?

Of course, Alonso 2013 was when he overtook a bunch of cars at the start. Goes to show its all about entry into the first corner.

Maldonado had one of those weird gps where he was on it for the whole weekend.

No.

I believe the other driver will be schumi in 1996. Started 3rd I believe. Fluffed his start and then came through the field in spectacular fashion to take his first ferrari win.

Lord Pastor was on pole after Hamilton exclusion from qualy.

Thanks wire for saying Schumacher in 1996.

Funny grid pattern. Half of the teams having one driver directly behind the other, and another two teams having the second driver two places behind the other. Only the teams starting with Alpine and Alpha Romeo have their drivers on opposite sides of the grid.

Wonder if all these nose to tail combinations for the same team creates more risk of shunts as they start, or less.

Pit stop strategies as predicted by pirelli. The fastest way around is a 2 stopper.

Its only fast if you get no obstructions in front of you. Track position is going to be king isn't it?

Well, Soft-Medium-Medium was the winning strategy last year if I recall, so there's a good chance a two-stopper truly is on the cards. Particularly with all the front-runners starting on softs.

Perez being back in 8th is so frustrating. This is the exact situation where he should be able to shine.

I'm frustrated also. Hopefully because the pack is much closer to the front, he won't lose out too much in traffic and can still make some strategy work.

I have accuweather radar showing rain 5 and 10 minutes before the race. For a short period. Looking to finnish just after the race start.

I think Red Bull might be planning two stints on softs and one medium for Verstappen looking at what they have available as they only have one medium tyre (which is new).

Mercedes have one new medium and one used, I assume just an out lap is on that tyre.

Both have new hards.

If he can make up ground & come to fourth, RB could try to 1 stop him. If the first 3 drivers would two stop, Perez could have a chance. All depends on his start.

Bottas seems rather happy to be starting 3rd rather than 2nd and not for the first time. It is often the case that he soon has recovered to 2nd by the first corner from 3rd anyway. He will have to show some aggression though.

I still dont get this we race as one rubbish.
F1 is one of the most inclusive sports. For anyone who has the ability to get into the sport. And has been from day 1.
So has every sport I watch. Football. Rugby league.
Your treated as a equal and you get there on merits.

It's not a sporting issue. Just get on with the sport and forget the politics
Fans will start turning on these movements when they are in the stands because they want to watch the sport. Just look at football in england. Nascar in the usa. Fans turned on it and they dont do it now.

It's partly a sporting issue. That's why the FIA and Hamilton (I believe separately, though I'm sure they'll be in contact with one another) are looking into the disparity between genders and races in motorsports. Publicly standing against discrimination is a part of this, albeit also something designed to make a wider point. But remember there have been racist incidents at Grands Prix, this is a far more overt way of making it clear that such behaviour won't be tolerated at the track.

And no, motorsport isn't a meritocracy. If it was, we wouldn't have so many pay drivers littering the past and current grids.

Deleted - as i also replied before mod yellow's post. Though what we were discussing literally does happen just before the race.

I think bottas had a chance there to get along side Hamilton - but he looked cautious and then became under thread to Leclerc.

Great start for Max, but a big part of me thinks that Lewis is less interested in getting his elbows out as much as he used to and was almost happy to allow Max to have that, rather than possibly crash. Lewis seems more patient these days.
