Guessing Merc kept Hamilton out to hope Ricciardo would hold Verstappen up? But Ricciardo pitted. Confused really

Why would you not pit to take advantage of the pitstop error?

To be fair, I can't remember a race for years where he hasn't said his tyres had gone and then he went super fast on them.

If he has much newer tyres near the end, he can pass, even at this circuit.

Why have Mercedes made this call? Track position is king here.

Yeah confused by that strategy from Mercedes tbh, that was probably their best chance.

I'm not sure about how well Bottas will manage his tyres to the end if he stopped this early.

You’re not in a fight until there’s pressure. Resistance. Overcoming something. Otherwise, it’s just an exhibition.

To those seeming to think the Merc strategy call was wrong, why?

Verstappen's stop was 4 seconds, Merc haven't done a stop under 3 seconds all season and Max came into the pits 1.3 seconds ahead of Hamilton.

Given that Max was likely quicker on the new tyres Hamilton was very unlikely to get track position.

Max has softs so could pit and try and overtake?

Nope, they’ve stayed out so need to go to the end
