I have to say I'm beginning to get attached to Mazepin. Never a dull moment he always gives good value.

And in two weeks it's Monaco
Oh f...

Yeah, we'll be getting at least one red flag there. Part of me hopes he utterly totals the car in FP1 so we have a clear track for most of the weekend.

I think the Mercs are looking good, no doubt there's more to come from Red Bull but surprisingly for me the Merc is looking quicker.
It's very suprising given how important downforce is on this track. I thought Red Bull were the team with aerodynamic supremacy hampered by a poor engine until now.

I'm sure Verstappen will now get pole by half a second.

Verstappen had a broken front wing in FP1 and another in FP2.
Failing to set a time in second practice after going off. He does seem to struggle with staying on the track doesn't he. That's two off track overtakes he has had to give back and several 'lost laps' in practice as well as the lost fastest lap at Portugal last week.

Dare I say poor Verstappen is feeling the heat. I can't imagine he'd be overdriving if Hamilton had retired following his crash at Imola.

Little early for that, only practice after all. Practice is the time to make mistakes. And for all the track limits discussion around Max I think it is more that griping about the misfortune of the three incidents in quick succession than anything else. I'm happy to be prooved wrong but each are slightly different, and so think that things could just as easily even up, as opposed to being an indication that Max is feeling the heat. Makes for interesting viewing though. Think this next qualy will be more important for Max than Hamilton though.

Not something of a big news but Mazepin is 1.2 secs slower than Schumacher.
I think the opposite would make it bigger news!
I'm noticing more that Kubica was 2.2 seconds behind Giovinazzi. Many say (and are right to) that Giovinazzi isn't that good, but I really struggle to understand why Kubica is still involved and even in the position to be a reserve driver. He seems to be that slow that I would question if he really is capable of handling the cars close to their actual ability. Is harsh of me to say this, but I personally think he looked more off the pace on average in 2019 than Mazepin has been so far this year.

Nothing stops his comeback from being impressive given what he's been through, but I still wonder why he takes part in practice. It isn't like he's a driver who needs to be learning for a chance of a seat in the future and I also can't really see how he can help develop the team many better than Kimi.

I think Red Bull might be carrying a bit of sand that they picked up in Bahrain.

Yes, it is almost sad... He has no chance of getting a seat again.

In other news, Mazepin only 0.4 behind MSCJr, so that's big news already!

If Perez can finish lap 2 in the top 4 he could get a great result here if he can try and push a one stop.

Perez on a one-stop vs Verstappen and Hamilton on a two-stop would be a great battle. Would Red Bull pull team orders or would they be happy with a Perez-Verstappen-Hamilton top 3?

Perez matched both Mercedes drivers on his soft long run.

Sky still doing their usual and saying that we havea great 2 way battle between Hamilton and Verstappen for qualifying. It can be said that it is pretty unlikely that Bottas will be much of a challenge for the race, but it will very likely be a 3 way fight for qualifying. Sky too often seem to ignore Bottas is there even in areas where he is usually pretty strong. I think the top 3 positions are going to be pretty hard to predict for qualifying and could be in any order.

Anyone know if Hamilton was on brand new softs like Verstappen was?

Hamilton had already been running the softs and Verstappen the mediums but Im not sure if the situations were equal.

I think He's been rather over rated, especially in the first race. That car looked 3rd or 4th best in Bahrain. He underperformed a little in qualifying and basically gained positions due to vettel being out of place, Alonso retiring, his team mate crashing and Stroll having a bad stop. To be realistic, he likely will have finished that race no higher or actually a position lower than he started. And since then, he's actually looked worse than that. That first race seemed to get too many people's hopes up. I don't believe gasly is that good, but Tsunoda is not even remotely close to him (yet), which given his reputation isn't very good.

It was Tsunoda whining about his car.

it is q2, byt crofty constantly going on in practice about hamilton vs verstappen for pole. Now it is verstappen - bottas -hamilton and hamilton is over 7 tenths behind.

I'm thinking verstappen is likely going to get pole, but not sure who it will be between hamilton and bottas to complete the front row.

Hamilton did an out lap at the end of q1 and came straight back into the pits. I wonder if those are the used tyres he’s just set his fastest q2 time on. Odd otherwise.

Maybe the Mercedes strategy is start on those softs & make early pit stops for mediums which they're faster on.

He certainly needs to tone it down a little verbally. A little passion and aggression is all well and good but he’s pushing his luck a bit. Alonso rubbed people up the wrong way at times and he was a double WDC.
