Have they finally taken out that awful chicane which causes so much bad racing?
That chicane still stands. It's only turn 10 they changed. Wonder if it will make any difference!
If they are not prepared to take out that chicane which can easily be done to try improve racing then the track should go. This track has been around way to long and delivering boring races.
Re: 2021 Spanish Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Redbull brought some upgrades to Portimao but put this in here if anyone is interested as the upgrades should give a better indication on how effective they are in Spain.

It should do. The straight hasn't been made any longer and the corner now has a faster entry, and therefore shorter breaking zone. So it should make it even harder to overtake than it was before.

Nobody could overtake there anyway. May as well at least have a nice corner.

True, we've seen a move or two into there over the years but without a headwind or vastly different tyre conditions it isnt happening.

Supposedly, the Barcelona track layout should suit RB a little more than Merc. It has better grip on its tarmac when compared to Portugal. There will be more rubber on track as well as there will be support races throughout the weekend.
Also the upgrades that were installed on the car should hopefully work better at Barcelona due to the track layout wanting more downforce.

Expecting few things to continue
Ocon will continue schooling the Spanish Matador
Valterri will keep drifting away in pace from the leaders
Carlos "I'm as fast as Leclerc in the corners" Sainz will be schooled again
The smiling honey badger will continue to struggle against Lando

I hope the rain forecast is accurate for Sunday, might make it more interesting. I think there's been two races here in the hybrid era that haven't been bad and one of them was thanks to the two Mercs taking each other out.

The worry is they are quite a way from the plain. Seems unlikely there will rain before race end.

Mazepin begins his weekend!

Less than 4 minutes into the session before Mazepin goes off. I fully accept that the Haas is a swine to drive but Schumacher has had far less drama than Mazepin. And beat a Williams on pure pace last weekend.

I have to say I'm beginning to get attached to Mazepin. Never a dull moment he always gives good value.
And in two weeks it's Monaco

Oh f...
Yeah, we'll be getting at least one red flag there. Part of me hopes he utterly totals the car in FP1 so we have a clear track for most of the weekend.

Not something of a big news but Mazepin is 1.2 secs slower than Schumacher.

I think the opposite would make it bigger news!

I do wonder if Bottas gets sick of topping the timesheets without being able to shake the existential dread that Hamilton will probably beat him to pole or beat him in the race.
Feels bad man.

What's going on with Red Bull in FP2? Why so slow?

I think Verstappen made a mistake on his first qualy sim attempt from reading twitter commentary.

This is known practice where the Manufacturer team urns down its engine whereas the customer team runs at a higher mode. No doubt over here, RB have turned their engine down.

I think the Mercs are looking good, no doubt there's more to come from Red Bull but surprisingly for me the Merc is looking quicker.

Pirelli expecting a two stopper due to high tyre offsets between the compound. Soft about 0.8 faster than medium which is 1s faster than hard.
