Maybe it sounds harsh but I already think Hamilton should be made number 1 even in an obvious situation like today but Hamilton is good enough to take that worry away from Mercedes.
Hamilton would have got preferential strategy from P3 or from P2 if Max undercut. I think Bottas gets the benefit of the doubt in Round 3.
How do you know that? Mercedes pride themselves on equal treatment and first cars pits first.

Schumacher?

So bad news for Redbull it looks like Merc has solved their rear end issues. They were clearly faster this race, but Max gave it up with a mistake. He could have made things interesting. Hamilton is just so good and so consistent he has to be the favourite for this WDC once again. A nice race, but could have been better. Redbull sacrificing Perez's race is nothing new for this team, but it was not good to see.

What team decides to pit your 3rd place driver to go for fastest lap to give your main title rival the chance to gain 1 point on them, Mercedes got lucky there.

I thought it was pretty boring to be honest. I like more punishing tracks like Imola, with gravel traps and narrow tracks.

Portugal is too wide, but I do like it's sweeping nature. DRS also proves too powerful again.

Not a great move by Mercedes there. Perez getting fastest lap wasn’t going to harm them, Bottas stopping gave Max the free stop which now means that Max has 1 point less of a deficit to overhaul than would otherwise have been the case.

Mazepin... were the timing screens correct in saying he was a minute back? And a penalty, deary me.

Good to see Schumacher finish ahead of something that wasn’t a Haas rather than just leading home a Haas procession at the back all year.

Pertty sure they mean literally what they said. Not the result of it, but the pitstop itself. Such as a long pit stop totally messsing the result up, resulting in it being 100% pointless - not so literally though as they likely will still get a points finish.

I was thinking the same, imagine the mechanics bodge it under pressure and it a wheel nut doesn't get done tight enough.......Game over and massive egg-on-face for everyone involved.

Doing what Mercedes did with bottas wasn't wrong, they just did it on the wrong lap. He could have backed off enough to not be at risk of getting caught by perez, and not give Red bull any warning to pit Verstappen. Bottas will have then had the last lap to do it, and it was too late for Verstappen. Mercedes simply pittid bottas 1 lap too early.

Checo had consistent pace on mediums when compared to softs. His RB car wasn't able to fire up softs or keep them in the right temp for continuous laps. Quite a strange thing as he was quicker & consistent on mediums.

Not really strange, Perez is legendarily soft on his tyres as demonstrated in this very race.

Really, fastest lap battle. Cringe.
Just about to say the same thing. It's pathetic. Imagine Lewis has a puncture as he did in Silverstone last year. Just such a stupid rule. I get no pleasure from watching it and it's nothing to do with the race.
If they really need to spice up the spicing up, at least only give an extra point for fastest lap to the bottom 10 cars in the championship. It's simply silly the way it is done now.
Also, isn't it strange that drivers exceed track limits all race long, but when they try to spice up the spicing up of the spicing up, it doesn't count.

Please, can we have F1 back?

Yeah not much thought given there, the criticism of Bottas is simply if Hamilton had not passed him then Max could have won the race, has a #2 driver ever been treated so nicely, they even enabled him to get an extra point at the risk of Hamilton's main rival, Max, getting it instead. :)

Pretty nice race. Merc still had the edge here.
But it'll be very interesting at Barcelona where it's all about downforce, RedBull should be the fastest there.

It would be fairer to have a cut off for fastest laps, something like laps remaining or from last pit stop.
At the moment it rewards cars that are slowest of the group of cars they are competing with and happen to have a decent gap to the rest.

Someone already mentioned that Nikita basically lost 1 second every lap to Schumacher. Now, if we're really generous and claim a poorer strategy, being on new tyres and being held up with slow cars on old tyres (none of which I have evidence for), and reduce this to something around a 45-second deficit, it's still truly shocking.

Whilst I don't want a fastest lap point at all, if it had to be done before something like the final 10 or 15 laps of the race, it should stop a lot of this silliness we're seeing at the end of the races.

What I meant is when on mediums, he was lapping as fast as the top 3, even when the tyres were quite old. When he came on softs, he was slower. Somehow, RB as a car didn't like the tarmac of this track when compared to Merc. Am sure Barcelona will be closer, if not better for RB.

Merc were able to make big attack when within 7 or so tenths on the main straight but the RB could not. Merc had the better race car today.

The trend continues that RB looks racier at the beginning of stints and finds the operating window faster than the Merc. When they got going, it looked like Merc were a bit quicker.

Stewards are saying that they admitted that the haas team were late to warn Mazepin about the situation. He should have seen anyway, but anyway - the HAAS team is always AWFUL at warning drivers about these things. it just seems like they don't bother giving enough advice to the drivers. It was noticeable in qualifying in Imola when they didn't warn Mazepin that he likely would be really close to Giovinazzi at the last chance he had to do a lap which messed it up for him and Giovinazzi. I can't understand why they don't think to improve their communication.

Wouldn't say that, i'd have Mercedes in front of Red Bull here, but not to the point where the drivers couldn't make the difference.
