The track seemed to have gotten a lot slower towards the end. Noone improved on their last lap.
Congratulations Valtteri. Will be interesting to see if he can hold it tomorrow. This track is quite bizarre.

I wonder how many more times Bottas is gonna edge out Hamilton by a mere thousandths of a second.

Anybody got stats for Bottas-Hamilton Q3 sessions won by less than say 0.030 seconds?

I believe it was the other way around a lot last year.

Hogweed can attest to that!

Verstappen hella frustrated today, suppose I can see why

Bahrain 2017, Britain 2019, Japan 2019, Austria 2020, Portugal 2021. All in Bottas’ favour

Wot.

Really? None for Hamilton?

I guess his edges were more like 0.060 then.

Hamilton was very eager to build up the underdog narrative again after qualifying.

Chill.

I think it's this...

Bottas ahead by less than 0.060:
Bahrain 2017 - 0.023
China 2018 - 0.050
Austria 2018 - 0.019
Germany 2018 - 0.050 (assume this is a Q1 time)
China 2019 - 0.023
Azebaijan 2019 - 0.059
Britain 2019 - 0.006
Japan 2019 - 0.009
Austria 2020 - 0.012

Hamilton ahead by less than 0.060:
Mexico 2017 - 0.024
Australia 2018 (uses Q2 time) - 0.038
Spain 2018 - 0.040
Italy 2019 - 0.008
Spain 2020 - 0.059
Tuscany 2020 - 0.059

I have to laugh at Mercedes’ attempts to look excited when Bottas takes pole.

In other news, very frustrated by Max’s potential pole time taken away by a millimeter track extension, but at the end of the day rules and rules.

He's an old man that has had 2 years out of the sport.

Let's not pretend this is a prime Fernando Alonso getting punked here.
He was out competing in LeMans and Indy .. Not like Schumi having fun with bikes plus he is a few years younger and also Slowcon is no match for WDC Rosberg.. The prima Donna Alonso gonna have a miserable season of being schooled
It won't affect his legacy. Just like Schumacher being beaten by Rosberg did not affect his legacy either.

I was so confused when I saw the Merc garage as well. Assumed it was because Perez and Verstappen could yet improve, but still it looked like it was in the bag.

Wonder when Toto will finally admit theyre not galaxies behind the dominant and all empowering Red Bulls

Fernando “I’m better than Hamilton and Verstappen” Alonso getting schooled again by Slowcon.. what a disgrace! Thought he was gonna blow Schumacher’a comeback out of the water 😂🤣

Why wouldn’t it affect his legacy? Schumacher was beaten by a WDC and one of the fastest drivers over one lap in the grid.. Alonso is being beaten by Journeyman driver..

Something about the track surely is bizarre. Ricciardo exiting in Q1 & Vettel making Q3 out of nowhere.

That is what i noticed too. Toto usually gets a huge grin and claps when hamilton gets pole. Him and most others looked like a 1 - 2 with Bottas leading was like nothing much had happened at all.
Even though it was in circumstances where they were not guaranteed to get pole with either driver.

There were still drivers who could have beaten the Mercs in qualy at the time they showed the garage, even if unlikely. I'm not doubting they'd have preferred Hamilton on pole but that fact is being forgotten.

In Max's interview it sounded like he thought it would be a bit of a crap shoot as to whether he would have anything for the Mercedes boys tomorrow. Didn't sound all that confident.

Fair enough, but not good that crofty confirms everything if so many are still on a lap, especially if there is a potential threat that would be enough to worry Mercedes.

Coming back to this maybe there's a realisation that the best chance of Mercedes beating Max is with Hamilton on pole rather than Bottas?
