Re: 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix Race Thread
Your hate for bottas is very apparent. The opposite is the case for russell. I will admit though that Russell has been truely outstanding this weekend. It shows he is capable of this, but it doesn't mean the things you keep suggesting, such as Hamilton not being as impressive.
Russell has outperformed Bottas this race, no doubt, but you need to note that Bottas was catching him before the safety car. Then they both got messed up badly in the pits, and Bottas got put on 25 lap old tyres. Older than pretty much everyone else around him and as they were all bunched up at the start, it isn't that much of a surprise that Bottas has very little rear grip compared to the rest. Russell deserves the praise he is getting for this weekend. but it doesn't mean Bottas is automatically nowhere at all. I'll say it again. You can't judge everything on one weekend. Bottas is capable of being close and sometimes beating the very best. But his luck this season has been terrible.

Re: 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix Race Thread
Russell not winning this is a travesty, but if anyone else deserved it today it's Perez.
At least Russell is bagging some points out of this. It was a great effort imo.
Hard not to put Perez in the redbull now....

Is it too late for Aston Martin to keep Perez for next year?
Is it too late for Mercedes to call George Russell up for next year?

Why are the commentators not mentioning just how good this drive was? From last place to the win.

Vettel has to CRUSH Stroll next year to justify Racing Point's decision to have him replace Perez.

What if the stewards deem Perez to be at fault for that incident though? I mean, i think he was partly responsible, but the stewards do vary their view sometimes. I would certainly blame leclerc mostly though.
Re: 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix Race Thread
That is the best race I have ever seen. Elated for Checo! Deeply sad for Russell...

They could have had Vettel and Perez together for a strong line up but daddy's boy stroll getting the most undeserved drove goingSchermerhorn wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 6:48 pmVettel has to CRUSH Stroll next year to justify Racing Point's decision to have him replace Perez.

One of the drives of the year from Perez. One of the best in the last few years maybe.
I just wish we'd have got to see a battle between him and Russell at the end, and if Perez had held him off then his awesome drive would have been even further validated.

They will in time. But you can't ignore the WDC and WCC winning team making such massive mistakes, a safety car changing things a lot, plus what I believe was a puncture. All of these things made a huge difference to the result.
Still ana amazing drive from that first lap spin.

.
At least two people saying how good the race was, when in actual fact it was a farce.
The comedy set the stage for some good racing, but don't forget this was essentially a "novelty race".
"Random Sprinklers" anyone ?

Red Bull's Thai owner is probably the obstacle. Albon is marketing gold for Red Bull in Thailand.

Brilliant race. Highs, lows and a really unexpected winner. Gutted for george. He has done more than prove his ability and dominated Bottas in this race. Also, if Albon keeps his drive over Perez next year he must know where the bodies are burried!!

This race goes to show F1 needs more than 10 teams on the grid.

That's interesting. I wonder what the market potential is for Thailand vs Checo's value to the Mexican market in North America. Fascinating stuff.Schermerhorn wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 6:55 pmRed Bull's Thai owner is probably the obstacle. Albon is marketing gold for Red Bull in Thailand.

Oh my god that was crazy. Absolutely gutted for Russell but made up for Perez.
Red Bull are going to look very silly if Albon is in that car next year.

I think it would be very unwise to drop tsunoda into a red bull considering its destroyed their 2 previously promising drivers.pokerman wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 7:00 pmThere's a small Japanese guy that says hello.FormulaFun wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 6:43 pmMeanwhile Albon in the middle of nowhere - that's it now surely it's Perez in the Red Bull next year and Albon back in the Tauri![]()

Stroll apparently gutted not to have won the race, Perez was last he caught and passed Stroll then cleared off, a podium not good enough for a driver of Stroll's ability I guess a product of privilege and expectation.FormulaFun wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 6:49 pmThey could have had Vettel and Perez together for a strong line up but daddy's boy stroll getting the most undeserved drove goingSchermerhorn wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 6:48 pmVettel has to CRUSH Stroll next year to justify Racing Point's decision to have him replace Perez.

Had things gone his way, this could've been Perez's 4th consecutive podium from Imola!

Re: 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix Race Thread
I wish Lewis a swift recovery, but oh boy do I wanna see Russell get another shot in Abu Dhabi and hopefully make up for the farce that was Mercedes today. His race pace was on par with Bottas', maybe a touch better. Bottas came on strong later but how much of that was due to Russell managing a PU gremlin?
A strong and solid performance from Russell, who demonstrated qualities in most aspects of race craft today -- decisive overtaking moves, most notably over his teammate without the DRS.

Re: 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix Race Thread
That's what I'm wondering, there were much clearer situations in the past (i.e.Portugal) when there only 2 cars battling close to each other and the one in front not leaving space....and there the one behind was at fault.mikeyg123 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 7:01 pmTheGiantHogweed wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 6:49 pmWhat if the stewards deem Perez to be at fault for that incident though? I would certainly blame leclerc mostly though. How could anyone not blame Stroll last week for not leaving any space but hold Perez in anyway responsible when he leaves space but not enough for an out of control Leclerc.
Here Leclerc comes from miles away in a crowded situation, Perez does leave a bit of space, and somehow Perez can be at fault. weird.
Re: 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix Race Thread
I read it a bit differently. Stroll seemed really despondent. I think he knew he was basically tiddled over today.pokerman wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 7:09 pmStroll apparently gutted not to have won the race, Perez was last he caught and passed Stroll then cleared off, a podium not good enough for a driver of Stroll's ability I guess a product of privilege and expectation.FormulaFun wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 6:49 pmThey could have had Vettel and Perez together for a strong line up but daddy's boy stroll getting the most undeserved drove goingSchermerhorn wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 6:48 pmVettel has to CRUSH Stroll next year to justify Racing Point's decision to have him replace Perez.
