9 long years...
Hi everyone.
A long time has passed since the 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix weekend when myself and a handful of other totally unprepared moderators jumped into the role vacated rather abruptly by my predecessor. For those who know, you know. For those who don't, this isn't the time to rehash old feuds.
Over those 9 years, mods have come and gone (I'm the only one remaining from that 2011 team now!), we've all gained experience and, for the most part, kept this place running fairly smoothly. We certainly didn't have anything like the complaints from that first Brazilian weekend in any other race since! The team I work with now is easily the most cohesive, open and dedicated group of people I've seen at any point on this forum, and now that we've seen out the forum upgrades I have decided it's time to bow out. 9 years, 180 races when the flag falls in Abu Dhabi, and 2 forum overhauls. It hasn't all been plain sailing, but I'm proud to say there have been some awesome highlights.
One that sticks in my mind more than most is the gun violence thread in off topic. Nowhere else on the internet did I see such respectful, civil discussion of a controversial topic. And for the most part, that approach to discussions has been reflected across the forum.
I have chosen my successor, although due to the anonymity the mods require as per orders from On High, I can't tell you who it is. Suffice to say I have faith in them to continue running this forum to the high standards you have come to expect of us.
I will be setting up a new account in the near future to run the games next season that I've managed for the past few years, to retain whatever remains of my own anonymity.
I've told the mod team they have my permission to throw a few roasts in here, and as long as it remains in good humour I open that to the forum as a whole. Since the team wouldn't let me go quietly, we might as well all have fun with it!
Thank you for the last 9 years everyone. You've made it a lot of fun.

It's been an honour and a privilege, it's not an exaggeration to say that we wouldn't have a forum to post on today without the ground work you put in when you took over, and though i'm not at liberty to reveal all the details of what went on back then, I hope all of the users of this forum will appreciate just what lengths you went to so that you could ensure we could have a place on the internet to call our F1 home.
I'm sure you'll stick around in some capacity, though this place will be poorer without you at the wheel.... though I guess you've just about earned some time off
Enjoy retirement..... just dont break the rules

Good riddance I say
... but in all seriousness, Thank you for all your hard work behind the scenes. The things no one outside the mod team knows you have done and powered through. I could only imagine how things would have been on this forum if you had stepped away when others did. It's been a pleasure working with you

You can enjoy the forum, it's your turn to irritate the mods.
One thing bothers me. Do you really go willingly ? Looks like you've been banned by Mod Aqua and Mod Titanium...

Enjoy your retirement! 9 years is a few decades in Internet years...

Thank you for your hard work!
I wasn't here 9 years ago, but I'm happy to have mostly seen the atmosphere you talked about in your post while I've been here. For all that we do get into some heated discussion, this forum has been a very civil place to have discussions in the increasingly polarized and uncivil reality of the internet.

No matter what side of any particular topics fence one sits, I think overall we've a great bunch of posters here overseen by a team of very fair, tolerant & very capable mods.
Thanks for all the hard the hard yards you've put in over the past 9 yrs PF-1 Mod. It's much appreciated. Good to know you managed to locate another masochist among us to continue to help guide the ship in your absence.
Only took 7 yrs, 5 mths & 21 days.

Thank you for the service, hope you will enjoy retirement as being a mod is quite tiring actually. I've also been in other forums where the Mods let their "power" get to them and acted like little dic(k)tators, a bit like Cartman with authoritaaah. But in this forum there are some of the most polite and respectful mods, we are lucky.
It will be nice to know that you were appreciated in here P-F1!

Never got to witness the dark side of the forum that is talked about before I joined here. Glad that, since I've been here, it's been an excellently civil place.

Sorry, who are you again?
Joking aside, it's been an absolute pleasure working with you. I'm not sure if the forum would still exist without your dedication over the last few years. You've definitely earned your retirement time!

Being a mod is a thankless task. The only thing you can be sure of is that you'll always be wrong in someone's eyes.

Re: 9 long years...
Jeez.
Has it really been 9 years since the forum revolted against the old mods who banned people for simply giving there opinions and the moda banning them because it was against there views.
How time has flown and how much the mods have made the place a forum to respectfully argue without being banned and for everyone to respect each other.
I found my recent interaction with pf1mod to be respectful in response to my what would be assumed to be controversial post on the black lives matter topic.
He stated why in his view why I was banned.for the week. And I stated my case as to why and whilst the general post that I made was balanced to him agreeing with alot of my points. I do understand that the capital letters in one of my paragraphs, whilst not in my intentions. To others would of seemed more racial than how I was covaying my message in my head and how It would come across if talking to someone in the general public.
So thank you pf1 mod for turning the place round. Making it a interactive forum for all of us to socialise. Argue. Break news and to banter around with each other on all forms of topics of not just formula 1. But also of non f1 topics.
Thank you for your efforts the last 9 years

Re: 9 long years...
Back when we were young and I was getting tired of being banned! Even if some of my own actions deserved exactly that. The rest of your post pretty much captures what I set out to achieve here. Not your ban, but a level of respect, courtesy, fairness and transparency that we'd been missing for too long. It's reassuring to see someone who found themselves with an opposing viewpoint to the mods say that. Thank you.wire2004 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 12:58 amJeez.

Thanks for all your effort, especially in stepping in to run games when others were unable to. Good to see you will continue with the forum - as a game player as well as a game organiser I hope?

Re: 9 long years...
I'll definitely keep competing. I won't be able to ban you all for beating me any more though which seems a little unfair

Re: 9 long years...
Nine years is a long time in a moderator's job. I managed just over 7 I think moderating a Vauxhall Owners forum, which was VERY busy at its peak (although not worldwide busy like this one, it was a UK based forum).
It's often a thankless task and the work mostly goes unnoticed unless it upsets someone - but it's appreciated by most "normal" people
Enjoy your retirement from the Mod job

I....I had forgotten about that...
Now...I can’t stop thinking about it

But anyway, I really love this forum. It’s a fun environment and apparently P-F1 mod was a big reason for that. I don’t know what happened behind the scenes back then but the forum was a better place for it.
I wish PF1 Mod a safe, comfy retirement.

Re: 9 long years...
The likes of you are who I started out so strict to protect. Decent users, who while sometimes very opinionated know where the line is and know better than to cross it. I'm sure depending which thread I'd said this in, the battle lines would be drawn in various ways, but I don't think there's many members here now that anyone would really want to see the back of. And that's as much a credit to the community as a whole as anything. Normally if someone does something that 5 years ago I'd have modded, the forum has already taken them down by the time I or another mod sees it.
