So Lundgaard gets a 10 second penalty were before Ticktum got a 5 second penalty, ok.

Weird one for sure, especially when there was arguably more blame on Zendeli than on Verschoor.

For a similar reason to my earlier blaming Ticktum for his own DNF, I hope Drugovich isn't penalised. Yes it was opportunistic but he was partially alongside and Lawson just cut back in.

There's no consistency with these penalties

Vips is the least lucky racing driver I have ever seen.

F2 has been made into such a lottery it will ruin careers.

What an explosive end to the race. Big up, Oscar.

Strong win for the F3 Champion.

I wonder if Lundgaard took his penalty during his pitstop he's shown as second place.

Possible actually... didn't think that's allowed with the SC or VSC though.

He's shown in 9th now.

I read the full report on the F2 site, he served the penalty in-race.

Such a shame for Petecof. He might be a bit out of his depth (so far at least) but the F2 fire extinguishers do seem a bit unreliable.

WTF is the logic there with putting out a VSC and then a SC? The implication being that under a VSC in dry conditions, drivers are still going to go flying off the track, out of control and hit the tractor?! I don’t get it.

Most of the penalties have at least made sense, although the severity has been inconsistent.

I'm wondering if the SC was because of tyre life worries given the pit rules under VSC, but that seems unlikely at limited speeds.

I don't think I've ever actively cheered against a driver more than I am against Ticktum right now. I just can't get past how he behaved at Silverstone, it amazes me he's allowed to continue his career.

And RIGHT ON CUE... he rams Piastri.

Yep. Basically anyone who started on the softs had already pitted and got screwed by the SC.

WHY Oscar? Why? Just take the points haul. Look who you were racing! And Ticktum was within all rights.

Wasn't thinking of the Championship, only the race.

From 3rd/4th and potential Championship lead after 3 races to out of the feature race.

The overuse of SC and VSC has way too much effect on motor racing generally but with equal cars and big tyre offsets it's basically a lottery.

Why do fans accept the use of these devices. No other sport would allow a safety component to have such a high prevalence on the sporting contest.

I disagree. Piastri was alongside. Ticktum doesn't have the right to just effectively sweep across the track and drive into him.

For some reason with motorsport it's entertainment first, sport second, 2 reverse grid races followed by a SC lottery.

Zhou is looking strong - keeping out of trouble, taking no risk and waiting for what is coming too him. Experience pays off here. If he can keep this attitude, he is the clear favorite.

Yeh guys, guess we'll find out soon how the stewards see it. Looking at it again I see your points but still looks borderline to me... not sure Ticktum is gonna get penalised here.

You could see that incident happening before it happened.

Edit:

No further action.

Zhou is looking accomplished, yes.

Ticktum looks very quick but is far too incident prone. I can't imagine for a moment he'll actually contend for the title TBH, even though he should based on speed and experience.

Tardy start for Lundgaard.

When it comes to contriving results and drivers losing out through no fault of their own, it seems that weekend format pales into insignificance compared to pointless Safety Car deployments and being punted out of the race by idiots.

I'm genuinely concerned about what might be in the small print of these commercial deals for the Safety Car. I'm sure Aston Martin paid a good sum for the prestige of providing the F1 Safety Car and require a certain level of exposure in return. I don't see any other reason why it could have been deployed today.

I often read that attempts to improve passing in F1 by reducing the amount of aero, reduced tyre grip and longer brakes will make the sport significantly slower and therefore not so good, but believe me, F2 is significantly slower than F1 but my goodness it's exciting to watch, F1 regulations could change quite a bit to allow closer racing and still be a lot faster than F2.

Anything which reduces the minimum apex speed will improve overtaking. If you create larger breaking and traction zones, you will have more variation in car and driver performance on the way in and out.
