Fright-konen is the best, but Fearstappen is a close second.

Surely 1 safety car outing is probable here. Narrow track with gravel traps & walls close by, mistakes will be punished!

Run to the first braking point could be interesting. Chandhok just said it's almost as long a run as Sochi.

Secretly hoping DRS is somewhat overpowered here, it'll be the only way we see any kind of proper passing.

Didn't like what Hamilton did to Gasly there. We've seen it penalised in the past.

Vettel just kicked Magnussen off the track. Poor driving.

Gasly :(

Race set up nicely. Mr Sunday in third, Verstappen the potential to under/overcut.

"we don't operate that way".

So Merc just meant "we don't listen to Bottas' requests, but Hamilton can change strategy as he wishes".

I don't get this, is Hamilton getting the option for a different strategy despite him being the driver effectively behind? Bottas didn't get his choise at the time last rcae.

Different scenarios. They've always been happy for their drivers to create an offset.

What is it with the luck for Hamilton and the opposite for Bottas... Problem for Bottas and VSC for Hamilton to pit at the exact right part of the track.

.

So Hamilton gifted the lead (just before he earned it).

Oh - and the virtual safety car was out "just" to suit Lewis.

Weird.

But it appears that Hamilton was going to overcut Bottas anyway. Didn't he have +28 seconds? Bottas was 1 second unsafe.

Bottas has some floor damage on the left side, apparently. Wonder how much it's affecting his pace.

Why does Verstappen think he's being held up by Bottas ? He hasn't got within DRS range, and it is his job to overtake, not just have his competitors give up.

Bottas is just too slow

Hamilton actually maintained the gap through traffic before quickly extending it.

Would like to see if Verstappen can really pull something off here, but it looks so damned difficult.

Actual laugh out loud at that vsc then.

Like a cheat code!

I'm impressed by how lewis has gone from a tyre shredder to manager, i'm wondering if that label was fair.

Bottas "damaged the floor on lap 2 and it's been significant" according to PDR.

It's pretty obvious his being held up

There is no luck to being slow. Hamilton put in a 17.6 the lap before VSC, nearly 1 second quicker than Bottas and had the gap to pit by 1.5-2.0 seconds.

Bottas is too slow, he should have dropped Max by 5-6 seconds in the first stint then he wouldn’t have had to immediately cover his pit stop and tied himself into the early stop.

Hamilton said you need to be 2 seconds quicker, that's a joke

But it seems there are some mitigating circumstances for Bottas' lack of pace.

I suppose Magnussen must have been faster than Ricciardo for several odd laps as well then

He only came out like 4 seconds ahead of Bottas. I doubt it was a given, but he was favourite. This sport is a bit of a joke the way it's set up.

With the overtaking difficulties here, and given Hamilton had only just done enought to pit and come out ahead of Bottas, I think Had Bottas not had his issues since lap two, he will have managed to stay ahead of Hamilton, And also possibly still stay ahead.

Given the level of damage Bottas has, I don't think he's doing badly at all.
