Rumour: Mercedes selling majority stake to Ineos

Post by oz_karter »

Surprised not to see a thread on this yet.

Mercedes are strongly rumoured to be selling 70% of their F1 team to Ineos.

This seems to fit all the recent rumours of Mercedes looking to exit the sport. This is a soft exit, with the team remaining in F1, using Mercedes engines and Daimler retaining a stake.

It would also explain why Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton have held off signing new contracts.

Ineos don't muck around with their deals. They took over Team Sky with a big dollar deal in cycling mid-season and immediately had all the team kit, buses and signage changed to reflect their brand.

Looks like it is a rumor started once again by Eddie Jordan. He was saying that back a couple of years ago and Toto Wolf shot it down on live tv. But Jordan is at it again. I guess he really wants Mercedes out of F1 for whatever reason. Looks like Ineos is trying to become more involved as an investor in the team, but not own it out right.
