Yes now it's gone back to awful from unusable.

As mods we are unable to change the technical infrastructure of the forum, however we are able to generate new BB code, and I had an idea of how to use that to hack in some javascript to ping the server ever 2.5 minutes with a page request using the session id. I don't know if this will work or not - but as long as you keep your forum tab loaded (and not on the home page, one of the sub forums or a thread) in theory it should keep your session id active and not log you out.

I don't think it will work on mobile devices as they tend to suspend the javascript on non active tabs (and I think even some desktop browsers do it) or if the browser is not the app you are using.

So if people can try it out, leaving a tab logged in, and seeing if you remain logged in, this may be a temporary work around until the techies fix it.

I've been having the Login issue for months now and it's aggravating. Once you close the window you're logged off, and selecting the Log me in automatically doesn't do anything. At least I'm on a Mac so I save it in a Keychain, but if I'm viewing a topic and want to post I have to log inland it takes you back to the main forum screen.

This bug should be a relatively simple fix, but in the meantime holy geez is it ever annoying!!! LOL

Strangely it has not done this for me lately, I don't have to log on again if I refresh or open Chrome again. So maybe it was resolved. Mods, any idea?

I have to login on closing a window, (Macbook pro laptop) but if I click 'post a reply' it returns me to the thread I was reading but logged in of course.
Adverts are there of course but all in proportion.

I think the ad hoc fix has worked, insofar as as long as the tab and computer remain open/active, you should stay logged in. If you let your computer hibernate or go to standby, you lose that connection and it logs you out. I've just been hit by a computer failure in the last few days and I'm now seeing how much this forum punishes lower spec machinery at the moment.

I make no promises, but it looks like Friday will be migration day!

Tell me about it. today was a miscommunication between tech teams, as you can see that's been fixed now. The migration to the new system will be handled next week.

We're not migrating to a new platform now, there were unexpected complications. We will be given a new lick of paint and some updates though so the forum will become read-only at some point this week.

Hopefully not 10 minutes before FP1.

I have had moderators say to me that this can't be helped, but just how long have problems with this site been going on? 2+ months? Never can stay logged in when changing pages and it has gone to a football forum twice now. Is this new interface staying like this? it feels a bit unfinished somehow. (still logging you out frequently - even refreshing this page right now) If it is going to be as unreliable as it has been, it will be a bit off putting using this forum over this next race weekend and probably in the long term too.

Few things worth noting. I think many posts from the last 24 / 48 hours have been removed by the look of it. At least a couple from the british Grand prix thread.

If the interface is going to stay like this, I'll give some of my impressions. The forum page number could do with being close to the title when on the main page. Reading the thread title and then having to scan way over to the right to make sure you click on the latest page will surely be a little frustrating for many.

A preference of my own, but I preferred the dark interface at the edges. Easier on the eyes!

Posters info on the right hand side? I've used well over 10 forums and never seen this before? Could maybe get used to it but just seems bizarre. You tend to read from left to right so it makes more sense to see the poster before reading it!

The skin is being worked on right now. I've reported the lost posts and the continued logging out issue, as well as a couple of mod-specific things. Hopefully things will be fixed soon.

Anyone who entered any of the games in the last day or 2 might want to go and check that they're still entered.

Is there a choice of skins or is this the only available skin/theme?

Until we learn the final state of the forum, many of the customisations we made to the forum with be broken. I have provisionally tried to fix the hidden quotes and spoiler tags, but until the techies have finished I won't look at fixing the rest of the stuff as it will be dependent on the final theme etc..

So much blue... finding it impossible to navigate through quickly. I get that it's a work in progress, but with the current colours, or colour rather, makes it difficult to find what I'm looking for.

Hoping that maybe we might finally be allowed to have custom skins..... also happy to help if you guys need someone to knock up a decent looking red/black/grey theme for the default.

The theme is currently being developed apparently, so whether we get it this week or next is probably the only question. Depending how it turns out, there may be a few people asking for an alternative - I think we'd all become rather attached to the old skin!

Think I'm still finding the thread page number on the F1 & motorsport forum being on the far right well away from the title the most difficult to get used to. I hadn't refreshed the page on my tablet and looking back at how the old interface was just made so much more sense. Having the numbers just below the title so you can easily click on the page rather than scanning to the right and finding it after you ready it. I bet many of us will frequently be opening threads on the opening post rather than the final page because of this.

Also really hope this will get switched round. The user avatar being on the right. I'm never good at remembering names and many users that use images help me remember who they are. I just find it strange that it is on the right as that is not where you usually first glance when you read as we don't read English backwards! As I mentioned earlier, looking on all the forums I use, I haven't seen them on this side, and looking up many others, I also haven't noticed any others do this. Hopefully that can get switched back. Who's idea was it that thought they would change the side of this? I can't see how it makes any improvements to the interface myself.

TheGiantHogweed - this is the default theme for this type of Forum. Unlikely anyone made a decision.

If you want to go to the latest unread post on a thread, click on the reddish/pink circle - it will take you to it.

Also - it is a so much better on mobile with this theme!

I haven't tried it on mobile yet, but hearing a lot of good things here which is great. It used to be a nightmare as a mod!

I'm having some login issues (Chrome - mobile). First attempt always fails, tells me the submitted form was invalid, second attempt always works.

And since posting this I've not had any issues. Either the techies are really fast or I have mystical forum fixing powers.

I can see the addition of notifications being an advantage, but one issue I'm having with it is that you must get to the new post in the thread you have taken part in from this itself. If you go to the thread, normally these sorts of things update and realise you have visited the page with new posts. The only way I can remove the notification is by clicking on it and noting that I've seen it. It may become a little tedious if you need to tick off all these notifications even though you have visited the thread by the main page link.

Sorry for all these negatives. I don't adapt to change very well! Hopefully these points are relevant and the changes may be worth it for others too.

All and any feedback is welcome, don't think otherwise.

We're still trying to work out the finer points of notification settings and that sort of thing. Login issues are a higher priority at the moment, especially with at least 3 people completely unable to log in. If anyone locked out sees this post, drop me an email at p-f1mod@hotmail.com and I'll add you to the list. The techies will have a bit of work come Monday.

Perseverence seems to work for most people, which is good if irritating. I'll add that to the list of things that need fixing, thanks.
