What happened to all those driver win threads?

They were taking over the forum, and becoming ridiculous [Alesi, Karthikeyan] and as a couple of the reports pointed out the threads were going viral. We elected to give them a few more hours, then remove them all for the sake of the other threads.

Lastnite there were back to back threads that were put up for a (Drivers) Best Win. All was fine until someone started Jean Alesi and Karthikeyan win thread. It all started going down hill from there. Thats what I was asking about. When I woke up the whole forum was wiped clean of those threads.

I'm getting the same thing, I assumed it was just my laptop dying further but I'll email the techies now. Bear with me.

Problem solved. To quote Tim [head techy]: "I'm about to beat the techy responsible about the head for it". Given the error page didn't show up by the time I opened the thread, I'm figuring the problem was solved prior to the assault.

:)

Pleased to see the Massa doping thread locked.

Although possibly difficult to word, but would it be possible to bring in a rule to prohibit 'news' threads being started solely upon the thread starters' speculation? I realise that it would present difficulty to come up with a black and white rule on the matter because a big part of a forum is to discuss peoples' theories however there is clearly a big difference between:

Did Massa's accident cause his drop in form?

and

What if Massa is taking performance enhancing drugs?

This rule would technically rule out people posting "What if Kovalainen is going to Red Bull" style threads (ie, when a forum member is just suggesting it as a possibility with zero evidence, not even a tweet) which is why I figure it might be impossible to introduce such a rule, but then the more I think about it I don't necessarily think that would be a bad idea.

There is a rule about starting threads with no source cited [at least I thought there was, if there isn't one is being edited very soon for future reference!] and there is definitely a rule against slander/libel etc. I admit we were slow to act on the doping thread though, for which I apologise.

I think 'darksides' comment on Vettel being 150 cm tall is quite provocative and there to rile up the Vettel fans. Just an observation. I wanted to comment on it, but resisted.

I'll have another look at the thread.

Edit: darksides has explained his post satisfactorily.

I feel, you guys do a remarkable job around here, so I am not going to question your judgement or ask for his reasoning, but I shall notify if there is more of the same, specially in regard to a certain driver.

Dear mods, could you sticky the new Pick 10 competition, and un-sticky the old one?

It's nothing to do with the forum, it does take a few days of posting for them to start putting new posts up quicker

Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding. ForSure101, the forum is run seperately from the main site. Most of the moderation team for the forum rarely get a chance to spend time on the main site so if someone comes to us with a problem we assume it's something with the forum. Apologies for the confusion, and thanks for the reply SilverstoneRegular.

No worries

Perhaps that could be used to "wipe" my record a little cleaner?! Lol

Just a quick thought, and it may not even be possible/policaeable, but some forums have a chat or shoutout box, where people can post brief comments or have live chats. Even if it was just during the race it might be a good addition.

Has this ever been looked at? Guessing the moderation could be a stumbling block as it may require a lot of work for relatively little gain...

Just thinking aloud really!

Two issues there:

1 - moderation [especially since a lot of us prefer to be focused on the race while it's on and deal with the carnage here afterwards!]
2 - I'm not sure how easy it would be to bolt a live chat onto this software, and then there's the question of whether the servers can cope - they work perfectly well for the forum as it is, and I doubt the techies want to run too much through them.

Fair points, thanks for answering. I pretty much answered my own question as I asked it...too much work involved and it's just not worth it!

Inevitably there are about 10 billion Vettel threads, is it possible to merge / close / create an uber thread for the incident? (Also applies to the Merc issue to a lesser extent)

Hello there .

I am at aloss to think why the two threads on the Malaysian gp have been locked today. The ones referring to the podium interviews.
They had the potential to be fascinating ? The mod said one was going nowhere but i am at an absolute loss to understand this.
I know its not an easy gig but comon ! Whats goin on ?

Re: FEEDBACK THREAD

All it was was comments on expressions, not developing at all and easily comments that could go in other threads.

The "War!!!" thread was a straightforward duplicate of three other threads which have since been merged. The locked one was merely started far later and thus barely used and deemed not worth merging.
