I'll get onto the site editor. Like I said I make no promises, but that does sound rather tedious.

Report it, don't take their bait. For waht it's worth, I've not seen any reports of any of your posts as yet, so you might not be in line for a warning.

I thought the "Is it the REDBULL or is it VETTEL ?" had merit to it, only the posters wrongfully claimed it was trolling. the OP had valid data to back up his claim and i think was just there to discuss.

why was it locked?

I guess because the only purpose of the thread was to bash Vettel? I think had the OP not have been trying to bait Vettel fans for the last few days the thread may have been given the benefit of the doubt. These calls are always tricky though.

Hello,

Is there any way to change the username without having to re-register with the forum and lose all post counts?

Others have asked this question and my understanding is that you PM P-F1 Mod with what you'd like your username changed to.

No problems. Seemed simpler than waiting until a Mod had a look at the thread.

Hi, Mods, I would like to congratulate you for your job.

However, there is something that has negatively surprised me, and it's the merger of the thread "You have to admire Kimi" with the general Kimi thread and its qualification by P-F1 Mod as Admiration thread, a concept that I thought did not exist on PF1 and rightly so.

It must be said that this thread had been kept in an absolutely civilized way. Now I don't think the official thread is the right place for continuing the discussion, specially if you are not FOR the OP's opinion.

Could it bne possible that you clarify the rules on that matter and when a thread could be classified as "Admiration thread"? If you ask me, I would prefer NOT to have Admiration threads on this forum, drivers official websites are a better place for them.

Has anyone else noticed the forum getting a bit resource hungry on the computer?

I tried to do something yesterday, something I've done before no problems only this time I had PF-1 open as well as my normal firefox tabs and the computer locked out.

Same again this morning I have my usual few tabs open, a few programs running in the background as usual but PF1 is sloooowing it all down. But if I open a different website or indeed forum and close PF1 it's fine :? :? :?

Porsan, I think that P-F1 Mod referred to that thread as the "Admiration" thread just as a shortening of its original name, "You have to admire Kimi". We do not have Admiration threads, just official ones; and in principle, official threads are open for discussion of different points of view, that is, they are open for admiration and for criticism.

The only difference is that we are more strict with the "no trolling" rule in official threads that in other threads. And just to clarify this matter, we are more strict with all type of trolling, whether it is directed to the driver or team the thread is dedicated to or to their rivals.

PS All of the above is, of course, subject to the boss's approval ;) And thanks for your kind words towards us! :)

Since we have a "Hamilton out qualifies Button again" thread would it be possible to have a "Jenson scores points as Lewis retires with mechanical failure again" thread?

Both happen so there's a legitimate point

Quick question/suggestion - I've just been informed by another forum member that some possibly racism words will result in a ban. After reviewing the forum rules, the nearest I can find is this:
1 Trolling, spam, inappropriate content and abuse will result in a series of disciplinary actions being taken against you. First a warning, then a temporary ban [both of which can be bypassed if necessary], and finally a permanent ban for persistent offenders. For those who missed the earlier warnings, the 'Flavio Thong' photo is inappropriate. Also, please note allegations of fanboyism and trolling are not appropriate. Report them, fine. DO NOT call them out in the threads.
If you have seen my posts I am referring to, you will see that the words are not aimed at anyone, so is not abuse but could be taken as inappropriate content (although due to the nature of the thread, is not inappropriate to the discussion itself)

If you look at this as needing disciplinary actions, fair enough. But at the same time, now the swear filter has been removed, would it be worth tweaking rule 1 to include a list of inappropriate language or specific words in a kind of appendices further down the rules thread to be referenced if needs be?

Hey Mods, I was just wondering if you would be able to slowly outlaw two things said on these forums as for me as a reader, they often deter me from reading any further into a thread.

The first of which is when someone claims that a thread is a "<insert driver's name> bashing thread." Whether or not it is, it is equally annoying to read, and I'm sure I speak on behalf of most forum members when I say that.

Secondly, I've seen a few people jump the gun when they talk down about the merit of one driver, by saying "did you feel that way when <insert driver's name> won?" Implying that they are only talking down the merit of a driver based on their distaste for said driver.

Even a reply on the subject in general would be appreciated. Cheers.

Misinformed, I believe the first thing you mentioned is already banned - accusations of bashing are against the rules, and that extends to threads.

I don't think we could or should do anything against your second point though. We want to keep things as civil as possible but a forum is for debating at the end of the day, and I think if we started deleted things like that we'd be overstepping the boundaries and heading into censorship territory.

Mod Purple

Hey mods, big shout out for a generally great job by all you guys in keeping the forum afloat. Can't imagine it's an easy job!!
My query is could we have some sort of sticky called The Question Thread? I often have the odd question or two, but they don't warrant starting a brand new thread, and they seldom have anything to do with current topics.

No disprespect but I feel you guys are a little too trigger-happy on the lock-button.
Perfectly fine if the thread itself is, or the post in it are, breaking some forum rules, but not when it's a personal opionion like:
http://forum.planet-f1.com/viewtopic.ph ... 56#p176456

"This feels too much like clutching at straws. Locked."

I have nothing to do with the mentioned thread, it's just an example of a thread that IMO could have been allowed to run it's own course. If it doesn't have anything worth discussing it will be on page 17 pretty soon and out of "harm's way".

Re: FEEDBACK THREAD

It was borderline trolling, and the thread was going nowhere. The crucial word there being 'borderline', hence I didn't directly say it. Sadly threads like that tend to be the ones that snowball into bigger arguments, so while we've left some of the contentious threads active in the hope the debate remains civil, I elected to nip that one in the bud.

I accept my wording could have been better, however, and for that I apologise.

Is it not possible for you to simply move a thread that's gone off-topic to the off-topic section? Instead of just locking it?

Another thing: Does this type of forum allow splitting or merging threads?

Re: FEEDBACK THREAD

It allows merging. I think we can split, but that thread was always going to go the same way anyway.

I locked it on the basis that once it has got to the point it is, that sort of debate inevitably goes around in circles.

In relation to the post about red bull found to be bending/cheating the sport

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/ju ... 1-loophole

The FIA has closed the loophole that allowed Red Bull to use engine mapping to gain a performance improvement, after the issue was highlighted hours before the start of last week's German Grand Prix in Hockenheim.

http://www.planetf1.com/news/3213/77919 ... r-Illegal-

Hours after Christian Horner claimed the FIA's upcoming ruling on his RB8's hole would declare it legal, it has reportedly done just the opposite.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/ar ... fb4271.361

Following the controversy at the previous race in Monaco where the floor of the Red Bull car was judged to be illegal, world motorsport's governing body the FIA have ruled that the front wheel hub did not comply with Formula 1 regulations despite the design having been on the car since the start of the season.

On 3 occasions in one season they have been found to be borderline and in one case illegal, is this trolling, by asking the view of fellow posters? Would this years constructors championship be tarnished by this?

I feel Mod you are overly trigger happy to just say this post is a troll or spam... I do wonder sometimes if people forget the way Red Bull conduct themselves.

You just cited the reason we locked the thread - 3 broken rules just became one. The thread wasn't going anywhere, mainly as a result of this. You will notice we didn't elect to sanction you for the thread, despite its troll-like appearance, for the reasons you pointed out for opening the thread in the first place.

Now let's see how this goes

To be fair I posted this reply immediately after reporting the post. I'm not criticizing any mod's action. And I hope I won't need too. But I think those kind of users we can do without. I can understand the hatred some members have towards drivers, but why direct that directly at their fans and attacking them

I've seen some good members go from this forum for much smaller reasons, I just hope his actions are not left unpunished

EDIT: I know each forum has its own rules which I respect. But I think other members need to know the limits here so they can self moderate. If someone like the poster I reported just simply got perma-banned or something, who would know why did he get that? That's if anyone noticed that he disappeared.

I think it's just fair. And I'm not asking for a public trial, but we've seen this happening a lot, and personally I got my fair share of attacks but I didn't even bother to report and i see the same members roaming around freely attacking other members without consequences
