Hey mods. For some reason I can access the site through my iPhone but not my home pc. No settings changed or updates made on my pc so I can’t see how it’d be an issue my end.

Forget that. For some reason my bookmark failed. Went to the PF1 website & got to the forum easily through that way.

I had the same thing, my bookmark was forum.planet-f1.com, which apparently is some older form that's no longer working.

The link with the hyphen in it started auto-redirecting to planetf1.com around the time of the upgrade, looks like it's been quietly done away with completely which would explain the above behaviour.

Hmm, in the past hour or so the whole forum seems to have become rather narrow? The posts that I read earlier today for example that I remember having 2 lines now have 3.

OK - literally as i was typing this, i then attempted opening it in a different browser, and I don't have adblock on that at all and worked out that it must be a new thing introduced today of having adverts down the right side of the posts as well as the two edges. While I understand adverts are needed, in my opinion this as well as having the adverts at the far sides is a step too far. I've never seen a forum with such narrow areas for the text. (unless i just don't use enough of course!)

http://www.wetherby.me/wiki/pub/Sandbox ... -43-26.png

I don't have very good memory, but from what I remember, this is how wide the poster's text was just a few hours back that I highlighted in red. I also have refreshed my tablet which had a tab of this forum already open, and when it refreshed, it did the same and made the posts themselves much narrower and introduced adverts at the side. With my tablet in portrait, the forum is barely readable without zooming in due to the amount of space the adverts take up and requires to be zoomed in.

This is quite possibly the sort of thing that can't be changed, but it makes it quite a frustrating experience that the area and layout of the posts have changed as a result of more adverts.

Yeah I'd like to echo TheGiantHogweed's post, the latest advert addition is a right pain.

We have to pay the rent unfortunately, nothing we can do about adverts on that basis. The narrower layout is odd but probably just a quirk of the base software.

Just a couple of bits of feedback...

1. Earlier in the week when using the forum on my iphone, whenever I clicked on a thread the screen would be a pale-ish colour and I'd have to scroll to the top of the screen to click the 'X' to get rid of the UK government covid advert thing before I was able to see the thread. Seems to have stopped now though.

2. The forum runs slowly on the computer I use (Google chrome browser on a MacBook Air). I don't know if it's computer/browser related or if t's related to all the adverts.

Anyone else had similar issues?

I've got to admit that with the inclusion of ad's this site, for me at least, has become so frustrating to use on my iphone I generally don't bother looking at it via that device these days.

It takes so long to fully load the page, I get continual cookie use notifications plus ad's at the bottom of the page which, because the "x" is so small on the phone, I invariably click on the link & get sent to the page of the ad. Once I get rid of the ad i'm then also finding a random "x" attached to no visible ad which I also remove.

The forum seems to run ok on my pc but I'm running an ad blocker which might be helping.

Understand there's bills to pay & all that, that's fair enough, but very regrettably, when it comes to viewing the site on my iphone, it seems the inclusion of ad's has pretty much made navigating my way around site too much of a hassle to really even bother anymore.

If people would like it, I could put together some 'advice' on how to improve your browsing experience on the forum (and the internet at large) based on how far you are willing to go and how tech savvy you are.

If there is enough interest ill knock something up.

The new adds on mobile are horrible. its an overlay over the forum around the edges and its closes in on the screen making the page your viewing even smaller.

Regarding the new "rank the X" style polls, it will take me a little time to code the interface to allow people to make them themselves - but in the meantime, if anyone would like to have a poll of that kind made, PM me the details of the poll and I will set it up for you.
Hi,

Could I ask very nicely that one of these be created to allow us to rank drivers 1-20 based on this seasons performance? Just the regular drivers so not including Fittipaldi, Aitken and Hulkenberg?

Thanks!

Yeah, I need to recode the javascript so it works with the new forum, but once I have fixed it I will post a rank the drivers poll.

Only if it's not too much trouble? If so I can easily collate the rankings myself to work out an average.

Question for mods based on events in another thread (Hamilton/Schumacher and their contemporaries): The discussion got heated - I have been one of the guilty parties on there, and I have clear reasons for why I have done this. As may be evident here to others, there are posters on here who just simply put up 3-5 staccato posts in a row, picking out singular points without any context from other people's posts, completely derailing the thread in the process. Clearly this isn't fun for anyone - and I suppose the poster doesn't enjoy the taste of their own medicine much. Reporting this in the past hasn't helped, so I suppose this behaviour is considered acceptable?

Firstly, thanks for posting in the correct thread!

Whilst it can be frustrating in a busy thread - we currently have no outright rules barring this style of posting. We generally don't publicly discuss the results of reports - but I will say, just because you've not seen anything, doesn't mean nothing has happened.

And further, the Mod Team will be discussing this in more depth.

My 2p as an ex mod in another forum (football, you can imagine how heated that can be!):

I think that as long as the conversation is kept civilized (as in no name calling or actual personal attacks, etc.), it should be fine. Obviously a style of posting that is annoying the other members can be seen as inflammatory, but I would not personally mind it; I've used the ignore button for the same user and the same reason for the first time in my life. If it is "designed" to be like that, on purpose, then someone can report posts I guess.

But generally, being a mod is difficult, some people will take offence at anything and report it, others have thick skin. I have to hand it to you mods, you are actually doing very well!

If you back out to the F1 and Motorsports Forum page, where all thread titles are listed, it should be above the '9 Long Years Post'.

Just to clarify - my annoyance is not caused by a one-time thing in that particular thread. All over the forum, this particular poster indulges in exactly this kind of behaviour - out of context one-line responses aimed at shutting the other side down, while overwhelming the person they disagree with. Just look here for another example: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15909&p=836360 - there are 5 posts (right after your own) literally one after the other, contributing pretty much nothing to the conversation, with no need for them to be individual posts.

I am asking for a clarification because I did the same thing in the Schumacher/Hamilton thread against this same poster - and I can tell it wasn't fun for him or anyone else on there. But if this is considered acceptable, then unfortunately that's the only way to stand your ground and retaliate against someone like that.

I had originally posted in the same thread, but then I realized it wasn't the appropriate forum for discussing this. Side note - all the links on the "Forum Rules" link on top are broken (says "*planet-f1.com*" instead of *planetf1.com*).

Thank you for looking at it, and the clarification - besides that thread, there are other examples just from the last couple of days:
1. Silly-season 2021: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15909&p=836360
2. The Great Big 2021 A > B > C Thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16163&p=836397

I'm sure I can find hundreds of others if I bothered to look.

As this is considered acceptable at this point, I plan to actively engage with this poster in the exact same manner - cherry-picking arguments, full of red-herrings, selective responses, and staccato posts. If things change, I will happily adapt to that - have been a member of this forum since the early 00's (this is a new account), and I wouldn't want to see it devolve into a reddit-type hive mentality platform (speaking of reddit, they don't allow a user to post more than once on every thread more than twice in a row or something, without an enforced pause - something this forum will benefit from hugely imo).

If you believe someone's posting style to be disruptive, don't hesitate to use the report function to highlight it to us. Raising the issue in here is fine too, but if you believe another user's style of posting to be that disruptive that you have felt the need to speak out about it, is threatening to mimic it really the best course of action?

The Moderation team is made up of volunteers, and with the way the world is right now, we don't always have the time to actively trawl the forum looking for offending posts and patterns of behaviour, so please, please us the reporting function because it will flag it up to us immediately upon login, allowing us to immediately get to dealing with any issues upon login.

In regards to multiple posts in a row, it's a posting style that has caused issues on the forum before and I personally would actively encourage all users to disuade from it unless it really is necessary.

Sorry for being negative. But there are plenties of easy things to adjust to improve this forum.

1) Registration doesn't work. The account needs to be activated by an admin, which takes a relatively long time. I had to write an email to do that, which hasn't even been answered. I would say you also lose many possible users because of this.

2) The post section actually occupies little more than a half of the website width. Quite unpleasant.

3) The ads really are overwhelming. They are everywhere and they are so many that my PC often can't keep up with it. I understand they could be necessary to generate some income but on the other hand please consider that many users and visitors are less likely to visit the forum because of them which ends up reducing ads-income as well. I personally only subscribed because I really am passionate about F1. I google F1 forum and found this, but I if it wasn't for a strong effort I wouldn't be here.

4) Sections are very useful to redirect people and to help inexpert users to find what they want. If you're a regular users you might know by heart where everything is, but at the first impact it is extremely difficult to find what you look for. Even main threads like for example those about races.

5) The search bar doesn't work.

6) Some kind of reputation system would create more interactions. The possibility to like a post gives the opportunity to tell someone you share his content without having to write a useless post.

Please consider improving our navigation experience on the forum, it could be benefiting for everyone!

After a long discussion, we decided as a team that given P-F1 Mod's long years of service, that no one can replace that identity and the account name will be retired from active use.

Since the last recruitment of new mods, and with the ability to co-ordinate in real time much easier these days, we have been making all big decisions democratically as a team, and we felt that it made sense to reflect that going forwards.

Image

This new account, PF1 Mod Team, has been created to replace the function of the top mod account. This account will be used to make official announcements on behalf of the moderation team, and used (hopefully very seldomly) to step in when a final moderation decision is needed on any issues that require it.

This will allow us as individual moderators to continue to act with flexibility. Sometimes we have to react fast to situations as they develop and that means that as more information comes to light, or a different spin is provided, that our decisions may evolve.

However, anything published from this account will only be posted after enough information is at hand to make a definitive decision, and with the consensus of the plurality of the Mod Team.

As a team, we want to thank P-F1 Mod for their long years of service, their dedication to the forum, in growing and nuturing it over the last 9 years.

Getting VERY tired of the ads that overlay the discussion area.

Having ads to the right hand column is OK... one can either read or ignore. But the addition of nuisance ads across the bottom of every refreshed page interfere with readibility.

Get rid of this crap, or I will need to consider whether reading here is worth all the trouble. I guarantee I'm not alone in this opinion.

The ads are becoming increasingly intrusive. Loading speed when on my laptop is also a very frustrating issue.

When at the top of the page I can't even see the forum there are so many adverts.

Mod Aqua, could we please have one of your fancy polls for trying to guess the pecking order of the teams going into the first race?

I have to say I'm almost done with this forum under the current design. The constant resizing due to the advertising space round the board itself is driving me mad. Go to click on a link and the screen resizes and you end up somewhere else.. it's terrible. Bad on a desktop but even worse on a mobile phone (Android in my case) and trying different browsers doesn't seem to help.

Just a heads up to the mods: I've referenced (but not quoted or condoned) overgeared in the DTS thread. If you want to remove the comment that's fair, but I hope it's within the rules and limits of the thread.

DOLOMITE, have you got an adblocker?
Anyone in or near North Wales interested in an RC car racing tournament?

Given the context your comment is fine.
