Usual post-race vote.

I'd probably give the nod to Riccardo.
But - if there were a quote of the day, I'd nominate DC from UK's Channel 4, when Albon was given an early stop: 'Looks as though Albon's strategy is to go hard and long...'

I went Leclerc, Ricciardo and Gasly who all finished above where their cars should have.

Gasly's been quietly excellent all season.

He's almost looking like someone who could be good for the second Red Bull seat...

(that's a joke btw - I wouldn't put him back there)

Leclerc had an excellent weekend. After a few poor showings that's a timely reminder as to what the fuss is all about.

Ricciardo was very strong today. Fully deserving of a vote. I'll give Ocon an honourable mention though as he looked closer to the pace today. He needed that.

Gasly seems to like Silverstone. It gave us easily his best display in a Red Bull last year and he was good again today. But I've given the third vote to Verstappen whose pace took the precautionary pit stop off the table for Merc.

I'm going to get complained at for seeming like i'm against Gasly, but did anybody notice Kvyat clmbed up from 19th to just behind gasly just before his car had that major issue? I think him and giovinazzi had the best starts of anyone. I think Gasly has a clear qualifying advantage over Kvyat, but looking at the beginning of the race until Kvyat retired, I think Kvyat's pace possibly suggested the car was better this time out and I'm not quite sure Gasly was as impressive as some think. He was helped by Sainz and Bottas, and had Kvyat continued, things may have been different. I think this team's race pace is better than it looks.

Leclerc looked like he was pretty quick in practice which suggests to me Ferrari were better this weekend. Vettel had problems in every single practice session and never looked to get on with his car after that. I think Leclerc was solid, but not spectacular. Racing point (or stroll) looked poor this race and I think the only team that were potentially better than ferrari was McLaren, which Leclerc did beat. But not exactly an outstanding drive in my view. But you could tell the McLarens were not that quick as Grosjean defended them for quite some time despite being in a significantly worse car on a worn tyre.

I think Ricciardo was possibly one of the only stand out drivers to me for the ability of his car. Verstappen possibly too, but it is so hard to judge him with a team mate that literally never challenges him. Hamilton got an impressive pole lap in the end, but was kept under reasonable pressure from Bottas for once (possibly a reason why he couldn't look after his tyres in the end). But I don't blame any of the divers that had a puncture. I just don't think this was one of Hamilton's stand out drives.

The official DOTD was Hamilton. I imagine the late drama made that happen and perhaps the channel 4 live broadcast.

Although Hulkenberg did really well to did what he did this weekend, it is sort of good that he isn't on this driver of the day list or he would probably get a load of silly sympathy votes when he literally didn't drive. noting against him, but I bet there will have been several of these votes. but then some likely will likely have a bit of fun and vote for Perez who also probably shouldn't be on the list :D

I'd guess that finishing (and winning) a race effectively on three wheels will grab some attention!

Leclerc, Ricciardo and Perez for managing to get to places they shouldn't have.

Leclerc and Ricciardo in terms of finishing positions, and Perez in terms of getting to be an option on this poll.

My pics: Hamilton, Leclerc, and Ricciardo. Honorable mention to Max Verstappen.

Hard luck awards to Valtteri Bottas & Carlos Sainz Jr. for having excellent races ruined by late punctures.

Apologies for including Perez rather than Hulk. I copied the names from the previous thread without thinking.

Ricciardo and Leclerc were the standouts for me, but Hamilton deserves a mention for the way he finished his lap on three tyres. I was convinced he would lose more time than he did, but he somehow managed to hit pretty much all the apexes with one blown tyre. That's pretty impressive.

True that was a pretty unwheel performance from Carl Davidson.

These polls are always hilarious. The only winner of a race that gets driver of the day is Verstap.

Not really true, but Hamilton rarely wins the poll when he wins the race. That's because winning the race is precisely what we expect from him, as evidenced by 100% of the people in the Top Three Championship picking him to win. For Hamilton, just winning isn't impressive: he needs something extra (which for me he had this time).

That's a consequence of the dominant car. Winning in this Mercedes is not that impressive for a driver rating.

When things were close between Mercedes and Ferrari, Hamilton received a lot of praise for beating the Ferrari's.

To be fair, they showed Bottas's replay too, and he hit the apexes too with a trye that looked to have blown in a more awkward way so I don't think it will have been that difficult to take the normal line. These punctures didn't come apart as bad as they usually do so other than lacking speed, I don't think it effected the handling in the same way. Hamilton's looked to blow in a way that effected him less than the other two. Bottas and Sainz also will have also crossed the line on 3 wheels had they had it blow on the last lap despite at least one of them have to do a far longer lap than hamilton with damage. In that regard, I think Sainz and Bottas deserve as much credit as Hamilton. Hamilton mentioned that he was only able to maintain the speed he did because of the way it came apart.

I think the Bottas/Hamilton failure was pretty similar but Bottas' just went further out and he seemed to drive back very quickly.
