Will be interesting to see who will be on the third step of the podium. My money is on Checo.

For now they are doing today the times Mercedes was doing last year...

It's good to see that we have a fight for the 3rd spot on the podium and that racing point can join the fight. With red bull. Maybe Ferrari if they can sort there issues out and also mclaren in the mix for the rest of the season yes Mercedes are in an league of there own but so were mclaren in the 80s. William's in the 90s, ferrari in the early 00s and red bull in the early 2010s.
Putting it out there already. McLaren next year will be mega and I'm calling that now.

It's just a shame that renault would rather protest a result of the race rather than build a car and upgrade a car that can challenge the other 4 teams in racing point. Red bull, Ferrari and mclaren. Renault seem to forget that this isnt the late 70s and early 80s anymore. A reliable and aerodynamic chassis is just as important now as building a semi reliable bullet of a engine that was required in the late 70s and early 80s. Yes. They can build a good engine. But not so much of a good chassis.

Maybe this monologue deserves to be in my salty Renault thread. But the point I'm making here is that whatever the result from racing point good or bad. That renault are going to protest a result that will in no way influence them in any way because they see a rival for 4th and 5th in the constructors championship race who has out developed them. Reap the rewards of there efforts.
I want racing point to do well. Not only does it mean that we have another team fighting in the field and making a race of things. But They also harp back to that independent constructor and a feel good moment. Least not forgetting that there origins go back to Eddie Jordan.

So the Racing Point 2020 is doing the same times as Mercedes 2019....interesting.

I wonder if its the same car that has been copied or the same concept? Subtle difference but might make them legal.

It must be a worry for others for next year as RP/AM will be using this years Mercedes car.

Wonder if RBR will consider this for AT.

They wont be using this years car as they are using the same cars for next season. They will however potentially get the 2020 gearbox and suspension, and i'm told that comes without using any tokens either. If the RP is declared above board (and that looks fairly likely, however ethically wrong it appears to be) then they look on a pretty solid footing for next year too.

No wonder Toto is looking pretty pleased, almost as if he has a few quid riding on it

The fact that the Racing Point dubbed the 2019 Mercedes did better Q3 times than last years Mercs in less favourable track conditions, with two drivers who aren't considered very good qualifiers suggests the Merc power unit this year is insane.

That and of course the Williams nearly making Q3.

The fight for the win will be decided after the first corner (barring reliability concerns). If Lewis is in P1 by Turn 2 I fear the battle for the lead will be processional - and a comfortable 1/2 for Merc.

Behind could be and is hopefully tasty. Is rain forecast?

The problem with this is RP is on the mediums which means should they get a lucky SC Mercedes might be in trouble.

Mercedes are starting on mediums as well

The writings been on the wall since Mercedes improved in slow corners last year. The only reason last year was remotely interesting is because Ferrari had a warp speed button that enabled them to out qualify and get track position on tracks with long straights

Any bets on whether Sebastain, Charles and Max will all make it through lap 1 will all body parts intact??
Something about that looks like a recipe for shunt and punt to me.

Edit: This just in, the British Maritime Sailing Commission has just announced the awarding of a new contract for a boat anchor design to the Ferrari engine development team.

What we need is the Ferraris, on softs, to nail the start. Could make things interesting, even if briefly!

Interesting if true. The suggestion is they are effectively driving the last years Mercedes car... but to match the speed the drivers must also be equal.

Pit strategy options. Guess the 1st four cars will opt for the fastest strategy.

And that means one thing.

Massi will not allow them to race.

Let them race.

.

According to the BBC Weather App there is an approximate 70% chance of thundery showers all afternoon until approx 7:00 pm.

I'm sure that the Hungarian weather service will be more accurate.

I am a hamilton fan.
But.
Formula 1 is a sport. Not a political statement. You made your point in Austria. If you want to make political statements. Retire from the sport and become a mp to make change.

We come to watch a motor race. We dont come to see political statements.

I've been consiatant on this. When it comes to Bahrain and the movement to cancel the gp in 2012 I think it was. Or with wwe and there trips to the Saudis. They go there to entertain and put on a show. They dont go for political reasons.

Edit. I only write this as I watch the youtube stream and hamilton is seemingly planning another knee before the national anthem.

True as Stroll's a better driver in the rain when compared to Checo. Rain also means advantage to Verstappen, Leclerc & Vettel.

Yeah Leclerc’s wet weather performances haven’t been great, but I think Vettel is pretty good in the rain.

The rain could be a good opportunity for Russell starting in P12.

My blood pressure is rising already at the thought of the safety car touring round wasting lap after lap at the start of the race until its inter conditions.

The odd thing is the rain will actually probably make the finishing order more standard. Without it Racing Point probably get a podium and McLaren and Renault are as fast as the Red Bull's and the Ferrari's. With it those will probably be the three fastest cars.

Vettel made one error in the wet recently in Germany a couple of years ago - but looked solid until that point. But IMO he had one of the best races of any driver last year in the rain at that track the following year. Leclerc is clearly weak in the rain. So I agree that Vettel generally is decent or good in the rain, but Leclerc so far has looked very poor.

His first race in germany especially was terrible and we are comparing him to Ericsson who kept things clean and finished in the points. Before the rain came that race, Ericsson was being beaten reasonably comfortably.

I really fancy vettel for a podium today.

Just a feeling RP will overstratergise? Themselves and ferrari will call an overdue perfect strategy

And if the race starts with no saftety car and a major incident occurs (unlikely but entirely possible) I can see this forum and many other places erupting with complaints about lack of safety and how they did everything wrong. Some of us are never happy with the decisions. It will surely will be incredibly hard to work out what is best to fit the situation as you can't plan the future so I think we should respect what they decide.

Guessing it wasn’t live as Brundle and Lazenby have umbrellas on the grid. Brundle said it’s nowhere near a safety car start.

Not from me my man. Unless there is genuine aqua planing let them race. The cars are incredibly safe and the drivers are incredibly good. Look at Austria qualifying. It was very wet, we had cars circulating for an hour and I don't think anybody managed to hit anything. And I don't respect what they decide. They've made so many poor decisions they haven't earned my respect.

Only just put it on, that's fine. If they go from having all the cars out qualifying last week in worse rain to watching a SC go round the circuit till its dry then F1 is a joke.

Sorry to point this out, but "Weather" since the dawn of time has always thrown a kink in the best laid plans - as Max can now testify to........
