Shake of the head from Verstappen. This Mercedes dominance is shocking - Mercedes deserve all the credit but 2022 can't come soon enough.

They’ll probably improve and give Merc a challenge by the end of the year and they’ll play up their chances again for 2021 before doing nothing, again.

Edited to add: by give Merc a challenge, I mean be within half a second.
You are probably right. It's going to be pretty cringeworthy having to listen to Max complain about how far off they are all year long. At the moment the Racing Point is a faster car. Embarrassing for them really.

Jesus. Can we just call the championship now, give Mercedes the trophies and prize money and ask them to stay home for the rest of the year?

Brundle saying there's two divisions here, but, honestly, it's nearly like there's three:

Mercedes 2020
Mercedes 2019
Everyone else

Bottas and Hamilton very close as expected. But Stroll Consistently looked better than Perez from Q2 onwards on every lap.

The other surprise is Vettel looking better then Leclerc.

Cars determining the grid here; drivers didn't matter much.

Perez disappointing. Point needs Vettel!

Potentially a big result for Stroll and Vettel given the talks we know are happening behind the scenes at the moment.

its looking that way. hope it rains tomorrow cause 2020 merc don't let their drivers race each other.

Close between the Merc drivers which is probably a good thing considering how far ahead of the rest they are.

Well done to Stroll for getting ahead of Perez, also pleased to see Vettel ahead of Leclerc.

Very surprised to see Red Bull struggle here, expected them to be clear second best.

Where are the usual stroll critics? Not bad for a 21 yr old up against a much more experienced teammate. 2 races in a row. Should be interesting race between the two of them tomorrow. Maybe it's a case of him and his engineer finally being on the same page.

Every week since 2014 weve heard Toto play down Mercedes chances whilst Ferrari and Red Bull play up theirs. The best thing about today is last year's Mercedes comfortable locking out the second row so the nonsense making the championship seem competitive can finally stop

So much for the idea that Red Bull would kill Mercedes in the slow corners. Something has gone badly wrong there. Losing out to the Ferrari pair is a real shocker.

The Merc 1-2 was obviously unsurprising. The Racing Point being competitive was also unsurprising. Perez's qualifying has been his achilles heel throughout his career, but the car was quick enough to give him a good spot to work from.

Let's wait until tomorrow before getting too excited about daddy's little soldier. Saturday has always been the weakest aspect of Perez's performance, and he didn't get the security of a banker lap.

Really liked Russell standing up for Albon in his interview with Sky, does make me wonder what Alex is telling people behind the scenes though. Red Bull look in a whole world of trouble this weekend though, Max reporting balance changes from lap to lap; something is very wrong with that car.

Better from Ferrari, though I get the feeling that this could well be the peak for them this year... hoping Vettel can keep his nose clean tomorrow, he surely has one last super drive left in him in the red car.

The Pink Merc looks just as good as it did last year in its silver form.... if they keep nailing 3rd/4th in quali then the clamour for something to be done about the way that car came into existence is going to get pretty loud; I don't see Horner taking being beaten by RP lying down.

The Black Merc though.... wow. That onboard of Hamilton through turn 4 was computer game stuff. If reliability never becomes a concern, it's going to be a clean sweep this year for Mercedes... the tracks coming up are going to suit that cars' strengths way more than Austria and Hungary. Silverstone will be a rout, and Monza is going to be a bloodbath.

Mclaren still looking good, really pleased Norris seems to have made a jump forward this year.... wonder if Sainz really is having second thoughts despite his protestations to the contrary.

Big thumbs up for Williams too, it's looking like they have finally, finally turned a corner. I may have been wrong in my prediction topic about this being George's last year there, but I think he is very much showing that he is ready for a car at the sharp end of the grid.

Stroll is usually pretty tidy come race day, theres a spot on the podium there for the taking for him if he performs.

Before we get too excited about williams, lets note that last year, Russell missed out on Q2 by one position and under a tenth of a second. This track suits their car better I think. I think they have improved the car a lot, but I don't think Williams will often manage to get through to Q2 that often.

That tends to be when he's qualified it 7 places further back than it should be and gets plaudits for overtaking 5 slower cars in the race.

Tomorrow will be very different situation and I can't see him keeping Perez behind barring reliability issues or an error from the Mexican. That said if there is some rain tomorrow it might help him.

If not RP have to be better with strategy. If early on Perez is all over the back of junior, they have to make the smart call to maximize the result.

Very interesting. But I don't think it needs to be that Albon is actually telling people behind the scenes. It is obvious to see that whoever is in that second Redbull car does not get the same treatment as Max. The bosses don't seem to mind either that Albon is one second off the pace during the races. "As long as you can overtake you are good mate". LOL

Agreed. Turn 4 for Lewis was quite fluid and fast. It sometimes doesn't come through on TV but Mercedes was shockingly quick today.
The pink mercs are kinda cool. If legal now there's bound to be a pink merc rule later.

I don't doubt that the Mercedes had the best car last year for one second, but the Racing Point performance in that qualifying session is certainly not a flawless comparison. There are other factors at play.

Clearly the 2020 Mercedes power unit is very strong. The Ferrari engine has very obviously been nerfed by the regulations tightening (and Ferrari haven't produced a great chassis it seems), and Red Bull's set up woes meant Max couldn't produce a laptime as fast as the one that earned him pole last year.

I don't remember many people saying that. I think there were quite a few races where the Ferrari with their "illegal" power unit was stronger in qualifying, but overall it's accepted the Merc was the best car.

This is probably about right. Trap speeds from last year show Team Red with the big speeds on the straights but they didn't have it in the corners, especially the high and medium speed corners IIRC.

When was the last time a midfield car managed to qualify for Q3 on medium tires?

Hungary was 1 of the worst tracks for Racing Point in the previous years. Either they've pulled off a masterstroke (Stroll Sr. says they have all the evidence the car is completely legal) or they've committed the biggest fraud (Pink Mercedes) in recent times!

Assuming the racing point is legal (which everything so far suggests it is) constantly calling it 'the pink mercedes' and saying it's literally a Mercedes as if they bought it is a disgrace and an insult to a team that's clearly been working VERY hard to improve and have seen success. What is it with people always wanting to dismiss hard work and success. This team have embarrassed the field on a smaller budget and found a way to improve without cheating *cough*Ferrari*cough* and yet seem to be subject of ridicule, clearly a lot of jealously around the paddock right now

I hope both Perez and Stroll get a win this season for the teams work

He seems to think some part of the chassis lacks rigidity, leading to disruption of the airflow.
