Not a bad banker Lewis.
You are probably right. It's going to be pretty cringeworthy having to listen to Max complain about how far off they are all year long. At the moment the Racing Point is a faster car. Embarrassing for them really.JN23 wrote:They’ll probably improve and give Merc a challenge by the end of the year and they’ll play up their chances again for 2021 before doing nothing, again.kleefton wrote:I'm surprised at the lack of pace from Redbull. Can't blame the engine on this track. The car is pretty rubbish by their standards.
Edited to add: by give Merc a challenge, I mean be within half a second.
its looking that way. hope it rains tomorrow cause 2020 merc don't let their drivers race each other.Schumacher forever#1 wrote:Brundle saying there's two divisions here, but, honestly, it's nearly like there's three:

Everyone else
Every week since 2014 weve heard Toto play down Mercedes chances whilst Ferrari and Red Bull play up theirs. The best thing about today is last year's Mercedes comfortable locking out the second row so the nonsense making the championship seem competitive can finally stopSchumacher forever#1 wrote:Shake of the head from Verstappen. Let's wait until tomorrow before getting too excited about daddy's little soldier. Saturday has always been the weakest aspect of Perez's performance, and he didn't get the security of a banker lap.spiritone wrote:Where are the usual stroll critics? Not bad for a 21 yr old up against a much more experienced teammate. 2 races in a row. Should be interesting race between the two of them tomorrow. Maybe it's a case of him and his engineer finally being on the same page.
Stroll is usually pretty tidy come race day, theres a spot on the podium there for the taking for him if he performs.BMWSauber84 wrote:Let's wait until tomorrow before getting too excited about daddy's little soldier. That tends to be when he's qualified it 7 places further back than it should be and gets plaudits for overtaking 5 slower cars in the race.Flash2k11 wrote:Stroll is usually pretty tidy come race day, theres a spot on the podium there for the taking for him if he performs.BMWSauber84 wrote:Let's wait until tomorrow before getting too excited about daddy's little soldier. Very interesting. But I don't think it needs to be that Albon is actually telling people behind the scenes. It is obvious to see that whoever is in that second Redbull car does not get the same treatment as Max. The bosses don't seem to mind either that Albon is one second off the pace during the races. "As long as you can overtake you are good mate". LOLFlash2k11 wrote:Really liked Russell standing up for Albon in his interview with Sky, does make me wonder what Alex is telling people behind the scenes though. Red Bull look in a whole world of trouble this weekend though, Max reporting balance changes from lap to lap; something is very wrong with that car.
The best thing about last year’s Mercedes comfortably locking out the second row with Lance Stroll as one of their drivers, is that all this idiocy about the 2019 Mercedes being anything other than clearly the best car can stop now.Zazu wrote:Every week since 2014 weve heard Toto play down Mercedes chances whilst Ferrari and Red Bull play up theirs. Agreed. Turn 4 for Lewis was quite fluid and fast. It sometimes doesn't come through on TV but Mercedes was shockingly quick today.Flash2k11 wrote:Really liked Russell standing up for Albon in his interview with Sky, does make me wonder what Alex is telling people behind the scenes though. Better from Ferrari, though I get the feeling that this could well be the peak for them this year... hoping Vettel can keep his nose clean tomorrow, he surely has one last super drive left in him in the red car.
The Pink Merc looks just as good as it did last year in its silver form.... if they keep nailing 3rd/4th in quali then the clamour for something to be done about the way that car came into existence is going to get pretty loud; I don't see Horner taking being beaten by RP lying down.
The Black Merc though.... wow. That onboard of Hamilton through turn 4 was computer game stuff. If reliability never becomes a concern, it's going to be a clean sweep this year for Mercedes... the tracks coming up are going to suit that cars' strengths way more than Austria and Hungary. Silverstone will be a rout, and Monza is going to be a bloodbath.
Mclaren still looking good, really pleased Norris seems to have made a jump forward this year.... wonder if Sainz really is having second thoughts despite his protestations to the contrary.
Big thumbs up for Williams too, it's looking like they have finally, finally turned a corner. I may have been wrong in my prediction topic about this being George's last year there, but I think he is very much showing that he is ready for a car at the sharp end of the grid.
Where have you seen anyone say that the 2019 Mercedes wasn't the best car...?KingVoid wrote:The best thing about last year’s Mercedes comfortably locking out the second row with Lance Stroll as one of their drivers, is that all this idiocy about the 2019 Mercedes being anything other than clearly the best car can stop now.Zazu wrote:Every week since 2014 weve heard Toto play down Mercedes chances whilst Ferrari and Red Bull play up theirs. I don't doubt that the Mercedes had the best car last year for one second, but the Racing Point performance in that qualifying session is certainly not a flawless comparison. There are other factors at play.KingVoid wrote:The best thing about last year’s Mercedes comfortably locking out the second row with Lance Stroll as one of their drivers, is that all this idiocy about the 2019 Mercedes being anything other than clearly the best car can stop now.Zazu wrote:Every week since 2014 weve heard Toto play down Mercedes chances whilst Ferrari and Red Bull play up theirs. I don't remember many people saying that. I think there were quite a few races where the Ferrari with their "illegal" power unit was stronger in qualifying, but overall it's accepted the Merc was the best car.KingVoid wrote:The best thing about last year’s Mercedes comfortably locking out the second row with Lance Stroll as one of their drivers, is that all this idiocy about the 2019 Mercedes being anything other than clearly the best car can stop now.Zazu wrote:Every week since 2014 weve heard Toto play down Mercedes chances whilst Ferrari and Red Bull play up theirs. This is probably about right. Trap speeds from last year show Team Red with the big speeds on the straights but they didn't have it in the corners, especially the high and medium speed corners IIRC.kleefton wrote:I don't remember many people saying that. Here it is:JN23 wrote:Anyone know where I can find sector times?
He seems to think some part of the chassis lacks rigidity, leading to disruption of the airflow.Flash2k11 wrote:https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/for ... arn-quali/
I've only seen a sketchy translation but Marko appears to be blaming the chassis now for the lack of performance..... significant if true.
Thanks, where did you find this?UnlikeUday wrote:Here it is:JN23 wrote:Anyone know where I can find sector times?
