The usual suspects Grosjean and Giovinazzi useless in the rain, at least Grosjean parked up in the garage.

I live for Formula 1 in the wet, such a spectacle.

Thanks to Grosjean for sitting this one out for the rest of the grid - only one major off in the end.

Stroll is a great wet weather driver it seems. Completely outclassed Checo here. That Russell guy is not half bad is he? Onto q2...

did anyone notice Grosjean's onboard replay? He was already going so, so slow (more so than others at this corner) and his car looked as if he had just lifted off the throttle and the breaks were barely working at all. Again, there looks to be issues with the breaks, and I am sure that is the reason he stayed in the pits. There is no way ging off track at the slow speed he did would cause serious damage to the car to cost him another run.

Oops. New tyres did not work for LeClerc. He'll line up alongside Russell, as it stands at the moment.

Hamilton the rain master, love it. One of the best quail's I have seen for a long time, so happy they went ahead with it. Some big drives out there from other driver's, hardly anyone went off which shows how good most of these drivers are.

That was a lot of fun to watch. A high standard of driving, was expecting more offs.

Hamilton, Sainz, Ocon, Gasly and Russell all excellent. Gasly might be a little disappointed he only ended up 8th.

Hamilton masterclass.

Fantastic session, would have loved to see more on-board camera action, much more exciting to watch.

That was fantastic to watch, the drivers really earning their money today. Unbelievable stuff from Hamilton, that margin to the rest of the field is astonishing.

I had Russell nailed on for best qualifying of the day, but bloody hell Lewis! Different class, for someone as amazing in the wet as Max to end up going off trying to match him (and still getting nowhere near it).... amazing.

Another bad day for Ferrari, and I can't see them getting lucky 2 weekends in a row for the race. Ocon seems to have found his mojo again and Norris continues to impress me...

Knew Checo would struggle in the rain. He never was comfortable in wet conditions, unlike Stroll who does better.

I do wonder if hamilton just did somethng that no other driver could manage. Or did the mercedes still have a huge advantage? I'm not convinced. I think that was an incredible lap and the red bull got close to where mercedes should be. Bottas is pretty much always slower that hamilton even over 1 lap when it is wet. I think bottas slightly under performed but i think it is signifiently more likely that hamilton just outperformed everyone by miles with that lap. I don't thnk mercedes has as much of an avantage in these conditions. And the teams next up all seem really close.

Bottas has said he had a problem with his front brake glazing so couldn't push

The Mercedes and red bull are obviously very strong in the wet. If you can't get the tyres in the correct temperature range the car just won't work. See it clearly when a car is super fast then next session with more water it's out of the window and nowhere

Thats why Hamilton is so fast I reckon, he just doesn't use those brakes to glaze them in the first place.
