Did anybody read about Daniel Abt using a substitute driver in an official esports race?

What are your thoughts?

Personally, I think it's a bit much. As someone who very definitely considers sim racing to be a valid sport I don't condone cheating, but what he did is equivalent to cheating in a charity football series. It's scummy, but losing your drive for it seems over the line.

I was completely on board with the fine, and the idea of barring him from the remainder of the virtual series. But I think firing him for it is too much.

Getting a bit stupid. I wont comment on Kyle Larson as that can not be tolerated. But Forsyth bubba Wallace losing a sponsor for rage quitting and daniel apt losing his drive for bringing in a ringer. It's taking the fun out of gaming.
Massive amount of people complaining about the official formula 1 race on sunday on you tube. Why. At the end of the day. It was some fun for the drivers. As was Saturdays veloche not the gp series with you tubers. E sports drivers and f1 drivers.

Alot of people honnestly dont get it. Lando norris. Charles Leclerc. Jev. Russel. Gutierez. Matt Gallagher from wtf1. Ben daily of tiametmarduk fame. Real Madrid goalkeeper cortoris. It was so much fun watching them all compete on Saturday on the tiametmarduk channel as opposed to veloche e sports channel. As you heard ben in a discord chat with the aforementioned. Drivers. I forget exactly who was in the discord chat. But the laughs and giggles that everyone was having.it made the game fun and enjoyable to watch and see gamers. F1 drivers. F1 e sports drivers were having. Listening to lando appreciate someone the ridiculous moves you wouldn't normally see at Monaco that ben Daly made. And the laughs and giggles. In the private lobby before the official races. And also in the 1st race watching as a spectator because ben disconnected from the server. Watch that stream.. then come back and say it's a serious thing.

Daniel ant shouldn't have lost his drive. Formula e has made it far too serious.
Bubba Wallace shouldn't have lost a sponsor because he rage quit. Because that's wjatbalot of us do when your in a good position. Then get punted out.

You wont know how much more appreciation I have for Norris and Leclerc to bring the youtubers into there lives as the youtubers have done with them. And I bet that for the most part. There is alot of mutual respect with lando and Charles that they have for ben (tiametmarduk) aavara. Trl limitless. And matt Gallagher. And Visa versa.

My opinion is a bit different.

I think they had to take action like this, especially given it was an "official" race and not just a game.

If they were lenient it sets a precedent. E-sports is quite serious beyond the amateur gaming side and there is even betting markets on it. Just because it's virtual, doesn't mean there aren't consequences for "cheating". It is even more serious now that real life racing is off and the promoters are using e-sports to continue interest and revenue.

How will e-sports ever be taken seriously if they let things like this slide because "it's not real"?

Cycling is having the same issues with "weight doping" where athletes enter a lower than accurate weight to gain advantage in the virtual races, or even using electric motors to turn the cranks. They have to punish people when these are found out or they do a disservice to athletes competing honestly (just like other kinds of doping).

I don't really understand the reason for substituting another driver. If it was to gain a performance advantage then yes, it should be punished. If it was because Daniel couldn't attend the sessions, then why turn up? It would have been easier to blame technical problems. So it seems it was to qualify or finish better. So yes, I think it had to be punished.

I've just read that Audi have given Abt the boot. As one or two others mention, I think the fine and series ban should have been sufficient.

Oh my god, for me it is the opposite, it is driving me crazy. I tried watching one of the races (can;t remember which one and where) and after a few minutes of "Yo bro, whatcha doing bruv, hahaha bro, y'all crazy bro" I had to turn it off. I think I am getting old!

Should have been sacked immediately.

This was an official Formula E event for charity, he brought the entire series into disrepute by his actions.

I'm just thinking how would my boss feel if I didn't turn up one day and sent someone else instead. One that did arguably a better job than myself if nothing else! It is technically outsourcing I guess, but it would be up to my boss to decide the punishment.

Personally I think a "yellow card" would be apt, maybe also a penalty. But if it wasn't his first infringement, then taking it further (as in sacking him) would be open as an option.

One could say disqualification was a very 'Abt' punishment!!
