Motorsport.com's Italian marquee believes Hamilton has rejected the current contract.

More nasty rumors. I think it would be cool to see Hamilton in a Ferrari.

RE. Hamilton, I do think there is something odd going on. I don't believe the party line. I would think he was preparing to call it a day if this was happening at the end of any other season but why walk away from a title that is closer to a certainty than a WDC has ever been before? Even if you have to take a big pay cut just take it on the chin, try to get by on a meagre $20 million for the year and bag the historic 8th title.

So all in all I can make no guess as to what's going on but one thing I would put money on is that George Russell keeping his phone pretty close at hand.
Hamilton I believe is already under training for the coming season like its business as usual, I can understand the speculation but I believe that's all it is, these people that report such things I believe are just shooting in the dark, look at all the false reporting over Vettel's new contract at Ferrari when in fact he was never offered a contract in the first place.

Does Hamilton strike you as the type to let himself go post retirement?
He specifically said that he was already in training for the coming season.
The coming season of what though? ;)
Well I think it's quite obvious. :)

So many rumours, it's now being said that the deadline is the last day of February.

You think it's laughable? Really?
I mean does he have the proven resume Hamilton does? No.
But to say it's laughable.... Is well..... Laughable....

Be careful you may be laughing. 23 times next year.
It obviously would weaken Mercedes which I imagine is probably preferable?

Yep! All the way to the back of the grid, if possible! :o

They've had more than their fair share of time at the top. I'd be happy to see someone -- anyone -- else fighting for the title.

For me, replacing one team's dominance by another team's dominance does not do anything. But a fight for the title - I subscribe to that! :-)

Highly unlikely although at that stage it wouldn't overly concern me and we would be saying see it was down to Hamilton after all, poor George though. :)

The prospect of not knowing which team will be dominant would be excitement enough for me. Never mind the rest of the benefits.

Oh my. Could things get sillier?

Could it be Verstappen/Bottas at Merc for 2021
Then Verstappen/Russell for 2022
With Hammy Retiring or going to Red Bull
Wouldn't that be interesting.

Most of the silliness seems to be coming from you, it clearly states the earliest that Verstappen can be released from his contract is 2022 after Honda leave the sport, if Mercedes did sign Verstappen for 2022 it would only affect Bottas or Russell but not Hamilton who will already be under contract, your eagerness to squeeze Hamilton out the Mercedes seat seems to be unbounded, meanwhile sorry to disappoint but from the same source you seem to like.

I said myself that Ineous might get involved with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the CEO, being a fan of Hamilton.

Yup I got the years mixed up.

You you seem to be sure Hamilton will have a contract. That article says nothing other than Ineous "might" get involved on the pay side. Keyword might. Pay is only one of the sticking points.

Also you are assuming they give him more than a one year deal "if" they sign him.

So it may be you that is silly.

One last note this is the "silly" season thread. Not the "I got a stick up my butt Hamilton will get what he demands" thread. Loosen up a little :-P

I mean we get it, your sweating. Your boy may not have a seat when the music stops. It will be his own choice.

True but I would lay money on it being more than 1 year, also if there are money concerns surely that would more likely concern a multi-year contract, a 1 year contract could more easily get passed through given who the driver is.

I can see Hammy getting a one year deal. Or possibly two.

Problem is the rumors he wants a lot of money in some seriously bad times.

Plus he wants a 4 year deal.

Plus who knows what else he is demanding. Doesn't matter what Ineous is willing. to pay him, if Merc doesn't want to agree to all terms it won't happen.

You have to wonder who leaks these rumours or if they're just made up, they got Vettel's contract stipulations totally wrong, he was never offered a contract in the first place.

Happy to be told I’m wrong on this by someone with better knowledge of this sort of thing but I’d imagine the important thing isn’t peak power since the engine mode ban but more what level can sustainably run at throughout qualy/race.

I know Wolff was pretty p*ssed at the engine mode ban and reportedly vowed to be able to run at a much higher engine mode for 2021.

You're happy with might when it suits the outcome you'd like to see, as for my confidence well I wonder if the bookies are laying down odds, if they are favourable I would lay off a £100 bet.

My putting down your posts is not a measure of my lack of confidence in what's going to happen although granted I'd rather see it sorted sooner rather than later, will you still be around for the told you so? :)
I'll be here waiting patiently. :D
Good to hear, some have a habit of ghosting.

Supposedly, Mercedes engine will be 25hp mightier this year!
They also found 25hp last year but had to pull out all the stops to find that, I'm quite impressed they've managed to do it again.

That engines the gift that keeps on giving. Every year Merc seem to be able to milk it for more & more HP.

Very very impressive.

If this is true, I wonder what the chances are of Macca & maybe AM challenging RB for regular podiums & possibly even a win of 2 in season 2021 ?
Only took 7 yrs, 5 mths & 21 days.

Not sure if this has been reported before, but an article flashed on my phone this morning saying that Liberty is cutting off some of the winnings from the teams for the next year. Meaning that Mercedes stands to lose something like £37m next year. Meaning that Lewis may have to back off his same-salary demands if he wants to stay at Mercedes. I don't know how true this is obviously.

Between Russell's replacement race and this, the later Hamilton leaves the contract signing, the worse his negotiating position is becoming.

There was another report that Hamilton asked to be a Mercedes ambassador in the future, after he concludes his career. And that apparently this was also a thorny bit in the negotiations. For whatever reason.

I think it is just too much furore around it, both sides want it, everyone wants it, everyone knows it, just make it happen already!

Also I assume this was done without Andy Cowell who I guess was seen as the genius behind the engine.

Clearly there is more going on than a salary disagreement.

Everyone is just to scared to say whatever it is.

Every day that goes by the odds go down he will sign a new contract.

So assuming Russell replaces him. Who replaces Russell at Williams?

Best advice I can give is to stop reading the Express. It's an absolute toilet of a news source.

No wait. Toilets serve a purpose.

It's also an article based around what Eddie Jordan is saying. Are the excellent sources he mentions the same one's that told him Hamilton was going to Ferrari?

Eddie Jordan has dined out on guessing Hamilton's move to Mercedes for 7 years now.

My biggest surprise is finding out the Express covers anything apart from freak weather, property prices and Princess Diana.

People have really got the Express all wrong.

Elsewhere I actually dedicated a thread to their articles. But why?

Because this is some of the most brilliant comedy gold you can come across. Some of the headlines have to be seen to be believed. In the realm of tennis is has churned out legitimate genius time and time again.

The key is to read it as a spoof tabloid.

Do they run stories on Elvis appearances, or is that more of an American phenomenon?

Elvis Presley ‘alive’: King 'SPOTTED' at his 82nd birthday celebration in 2017

I especially love that 'spotted' is in caps. The Express have a real feel and flair for emphasis.
