At this moment I am watching Charles Leclerc practicing. You can go to his channel, set up alerts, and watch him when he is online.

And although real world racing is the best, I am currently enjoying a cornucopia of pro drivers having fun online.

I'm with you, it is quite good fun. I'm been on Lando's Twitch feed this evening.

There's also a mega Indycar race this weekend with over 30 drivers I believe!

Some reasons from Norris as to why Verstappen and many other F1 drivers don't play this.

As many will have noticed, I have already complained enough about this, but I'll just ask a basic question. Why is an arcade game like this the "official" F1 game of there year? There surely could be a more advanced F1 equivalent that would make more drivers want to take part in it.

Because it's market is the casual player, not real F1 drivers. The game is designed for people who never race cars to be able to buy and play within minutes, not to have to learn the intricacies of a real F1 simulator.

The Indycar esports approach is amazing me more each day. I watched some edited highlights of their practice session for tonight's race. Talk about looking after the fans. The drivers were chatting during the session about making it look as real as possible for the fans. They did a trial race and after the crossed the finish line, a few drivers simply crashed/took their hands off the wheel. Other drivers immediately picked up on this and how childish it looked and they all agreed that after the finish they will do a slow down lap and return to the pits like they would in a real race.

They are taking it so seriously for the fans. Top marks. Your move F1.

I understand that. But why is there not also something out there that would be more realistic when there are better things for other racing series?. It is the word official that gets to me here when it is just an arcade game. I am aware of the target of people that will play this sort of thing.

Surely you can see why it's much better for F1 and for F1 fans to sell the official licence to a game with a much, much larger reach?

If it wasn't for the pandemic what would F1 gain out a niche sim buying the licence (at a much lower fee) with a far smaller reach? The vast majority of fans who play the Codemasters game would never play a full sim either so they would lose out as well.

Assetto Coras, my favourite sim, has long been asked why it doesn't have the Le Mans track, even in the Competizione version of the game. One of the main reasons is cost, not of lazer scanning it and programming it, but the license from the circuit owners.

Imagine the cost of having the official F1 license? Yes, I'd love the official game to be as good to drive as Assetto Corsa, but they have to sell millions of the thing and I guess a more arcade type game does that.

I wonder if Lundgaard will be back again?

Once you start watching it as a race in it's own right, rather than a game or an alternative to real life, the full time sim'ers put on a really good show. Some spectacular (yet largely clean) racing here:

Yep, it was a very enjoyable race to watch. Looking forward to the next which is at a fan voted circuit, not yet sorted, I believe.
