Stick the drivers in simulators and televise a virtual race!
This is a massive opportunity to make e-sports history and something worth watching!!! Put the driver's points towards the championship and omit the constructors. Surely this is better than no F1 at all?

I don't think there is any more point to this, if the race is simulated, then it never actually happened, so the points mean nothing. If a race has a good reason to be cancelled, i don't think it is that urgent that there must be some kind of replacement.
Re: Stick the drivers in simulators and televise a virtual r
It would be meaningless and not representative of anything much... but I'd still quite like to see them all do quali & the full race in a sim. Give them equal machinery and it could all be a bit of fun, no points involved. I'm sure Kimi wouldn't care for it and there are lots of reasons not to do it but damn it, it's March 12th and I want to see some track action.
Watching from the cheap seats.
Re: Stick the drivers in simulators and televise a virtual r
Lando and Max would dominate it, along with maybe some of the other young drivers. It's a neat idea, but it would be totally unrepresentative.klevispin wrote:It would be meaningless and not representative of anything much... but I'd still quite like to see them all do quali & the full race in a sim. Nice idea. Wouldn't interest me in the least but would be a novelty and a distraction I guess. Only thing is it might set a precedent....

Sim racing doesn't relate accurately enough to the real world.

I love this idea, not for points but just for entertainment. I think it could be fun. And perhaps there is an online way for fans to race against the drivers simulations.

Just have an XBox F12020 tournament.

Well, the OP said to award the drivers actual points, so you'd have to hope it would be representative in that scenario...mikeyg123 wrote:pokerman wrote:Sim racing doesn't relate accurately enough to the real world.![]()
I don't think anyone is saying it would be in anyway representative.

Could be quite hilarious to watch, especially if we get to hear what the drivers are saying....
I’ll be watching for sure.

Re: Stick the drivers in simulators and televise a virtual r
I'm curious which drivers will participate. I'd be surprised if Lewis, Seb and Kimi take part, maybe Bottas and Grosjean as well. I can't see them being massively into it. But you'd assume that a lot of the younger drivers would all be involved.

With me being like I am, I really struggle to imagine things. I couldn't really watch and enjoy real drivers competing something that I would describe as totally fake as it isn't actually happening. May look impressive, but this is just my view on it.pokerman wrote:It's actually quite interesting so long as you don't take the racing too seriously.Vettel Fan wrote:Sounds horribly boring
Re: Stick the drivers in simulators and televise a virtual r
I watched an esports F1 race the other day, with proper commentary, and after the first five minutes I forgot it was virtual.
I think it was this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsL4EeIRODI
Edit to add: all drivers in equal machinery can't be a bad thing.

I wouldn't normally watch it but being starved of any kind of sporting entertainment like I said before it's just a nice filler, of course at the end of the day it doesn't mean that much, it's little more than a video game.TheGiantHogweed wrote:With me being like I am, I really struggle to imagine things. It looks real up to the point that cars start hitting one another and crashing into one another, then it starts to look a bit ridiculous.spacejock wrote:I watched an esports F1 race the other day, with proper commentary, and after the first five minutes I forgot it was virtual.

Virtual GT racing at Monza next weekend. Could be a bit of fun and it's on Assetto Corsa which is often regarded as the best in terms of driving realism.

Yet you don't have a problem with drivers who are not average in size driving 100% bespoke cars that are illegal on the road, driven on tracks that are also bespoke and are surrounded by advertising, drive many laps and go nowhere while burning fuels the average person can never obtain??

Re: Stick the drivers in simulators and televise a virtual r
I don't understand this at all. it almost comes a across as being a bit unreasonable towards my comment. I could have worded it more nicely than saying totally fake, but the truth is, it isn't reality as it actually never happens. You could potentially simulate a cure for this virus that seems to work, but that wouldn't mean anything.Blinky McSquinty wrote:

I may be different to others, but I just struggle to watch imaginary things that are supposed to be like the real thing.

I'd rather not. I've tried to watch the races put in place of the actual races and I found them really boring. It's not the same.
