F1 2020 Livery Predictions and Hopes

While we're waiting on the new car launches, I thought it's be a bit fun if we look at the ten cars, guess what they're going to look like and then imagine what we would do with them.

What I would like to see:
Mercedes - More teal/turquoise on the car. Another contrasting colour to the silver would be better but there's no new big sponsor deal I know of.
Ferrari - Ideally a return to the 2007/2008 shade of red. But a repeat of the 2018 car would be fine.
Red Bull - A splash of new colours to go with the matte blue. I liked the purple on the Infiniti sponsored cars but maybe even more red or yellow.
Mclaren - A repeat of 2019. In my view the best looking car last year.
Renault - I'd love it to have more yellow and less black. More 65-35 than the 50-50 approach.
Alpha Tauri - I'd love if they went down the Benetton clothing angle and did lots of colours but as long as there is a strong contrast of bright colours I'll be happy. They need to move away from the Toro Rosso colours though for the sake of their new identity.
Racing Point - It would be perfect to see some green from Aston Martin, I don't know if green, pink and blue (of BWT) work but I'd love to see it.
Alfa Romeo - I'd like to see the car gain some green so it could be red, white and green.
Haas - The blank slate. They'll want to move away from the Rich colours. Something bold that we'll all talk about please!
Williams - I'd like to see it not look like a toothpaste bottle.

What I expect to see:
Mercedes - Exactly the same as 2019
Ferrari - Exactly the same as 2019, though with a smaller Mission Winnow presence.
Red Bull - Exactly the same as 2019
Mclaren - I have a horrible feeling somehow they'll make the car more blue.
Renault - A tweaked version of their 50-50 black and yellow livery.
Alpha Tauri - I'm expecting black and blue. Black seems to be a common colour for the brand and they'll blend it with the Toro Rosso blue.
Racing Point - I'm expecting a change but still predominantly pink and blue.
Alfa Romeo - Hard to know as Alfa don't know if they're continuing. They'll probably stay white and red but maybe move to a lighter red for PKN Orlen.
Haas - I hope I'm wrong, but I expect a return to the dull 2016, 2017 and 2018 liveries.
Williams - It will still look like toothpaste.

What do you think? Go as outlandish as you want, it's the off season and we're all bored. If you want a yellow and pink polkadotted Ferrari then go for it!

In regards to McLaren… The one thing Zak Brown is adamant about is listening to and doing things that appease the fanbase, so long as it doesn't take away from their performance & development. As for the rest of it, I fear Ferrari & Red Bull will stick with the Mattfinish, Mercedes will be quite similar, Haas will likely go with a livery closer to their debut season (fingers crossed as it was nice), Alpha Tauri will be Black & White with some red to represent Honda, Alfa Romeo will likely continue with it's boring livery design, Racing Point will continue with the Pink & Blue, and Williams… The slate is clean so hopefully they actually DESIGN a livery rather than go with what looks like overspray over white this year.

As per the latest rumours with Lawrence Stroll getting closer to buying a stake in Aston Martin & with the supposed rumour Racing Point could be renamed Aston Martin in traditional Green colours, fingers crossed for this.

I happen to think that their white-and-red livery is the most elegant of the lot. And I thought so before Kimi decided to drive for them, so 'in tempore non suspecto'. I did like the initial version a bit better, with a nicer Alfa Romeo logo, but still.

The Alpha Tauri thing has passed me by; I don't understand the need for the name change. I thought the Toro Rosso initial livery was far better than the Red Bull one, and miss it.

I'm not sure whether the Ferrari looked good from up close (I didn't go to Francorchamps last year), and I'm also not really a fan of matt liveries, but I have to say I felt it looked rather good on the telly.

Hopes:

Mercedes - Go for a McLaren '06-style chrome silver instead of their dull-grey look. I much preferred the pre-2019 red/blue numbers on the cars
Ferrari - I liked their matte '19 paint job. A little more white would be nice
Red Bull - An overhaul is needed, but like the matte job. Aston Martin needs to go
Renault - More yellow and less black
McLaren - I liked last year's livery so more of the same
Alpha Tauri - A colourful look like the 80s Benettons
Alfa Romeo - 2019 livery was fine for me, but would like to see green added
Racing Point - Less blue and more pink (or vice versa), or if the Aston rumours are to be believed, BRG
Haas - Less dull greys and more red/black
Williams - I'm in the minority but I liked last year's livery

Predictions:

Mercedes - same
Ferrari - same
Red Bull - same
Renault - same (probably more black)
McLaren - same (don't mind)
Alpha Tauri - no idea
Alfa Romeo - same
Racing Point - same if the Aston deal doesn't go through
Haas - same as pre-Rich liveries
Williams - no idea

Nice to see I'm not the only one hoping for green added to the grid via the Alfa Romeo and Racing Point!

I wonder why green is so rare in F1. Green liveries like the Jaguars and Lotuses always do well in fan surveys.
I suppose there just aren't a lot of green sponsors in F1 these days.

Green liveries went the way fo the dinosaur because of the advent of sponsorship. When a company is giving you that kind of money they want their brand represented and advertised in full capacity and they could give A Rat's YouKnowWhat about countries' traditional colors. The only reason Ferrari don't do it is because their red is legendary and any brand associated with them doesn't mind being featured on their Scarlet Red.

I personally love green, but IDK how that would work with BWT and look good, and BWT is actually paying money to be featured prominently while Stroll is purchasing a significant stake in Aston Martin. Caterham/Lotus had a few nice liveries during their short lived existence, but for the most part they were plain Rally Racing Green with a few accents and sponsor logos here and there.

As a designer and life-long fan of F1, what I'd like to see is a greater diversity of solid design that incorporates different sponsors but flows & work well together. It seems visual design in F1 has also gone the way of the dinosaur and the last well designed livery was Force India's Black and Silver from a few seasons back. The Red Bulls and Toro Rosso have always looked good because they are mere replicas of their beverage cans and it looks good and Mercedes has looked clean from day one, but it's rather plain and basic looking, and I would prefer they run the Red honoring Niki in a bolder fashion rather than a single Red Tri-Star on either side of the car which you can't see unless you're looking at extreme closeups or still images. It could use a more aggressive approach.

There are talented 3D artists who create spectacular livery designs on the net and teams should hire a few of them so the grid looks like it's comprised fantastic works of art that also happen to go very fast.
