Sky news are reporting that comedian and formula 1 enthusiast Clive James has sadly died at the age of 80.

Why is this relevant.
He was a broadcaster and hosted The Clive james show in 1997 where he introduced ITV to formula 1 and the formula 1 drivers to the ITV audience
He was also the narrator of the Duke videos of the formula 1 season reviews in 1982, 1984 and 1986. His comedic reviews of the seasons were fantastic and made the reviews equally as funny as they were entertaining when watching the videos back.

Rest in piece you will surely be missed.

Sad news; I only heard him on a few F1 year reviews by Duke, but I loved his sense of humour.

I remember he had accepted to race in a celebrity event at Adelaide, only to find out he had to be able to drive a car, and have the licence to prove he could. :D So he was taught by none other than Stirling Moss, in only 1 week! I believe he passed his test, because he did enter the race.

If only more people had his sense of humour and could calmly comment on our favourite sport.

I can remember staying up for the 1997 special before the first race. A great start to the era

Always witty and a great lover of F1. RIP Clive

I was a admirer of James abroad but totally unaware of his love of F1. The 1997 special is on Youtube and it is great.

RIP - thought he was a lot older though surprised he was "only" 80. A very entertaining guy.

Sad day, I loved his dry humor. One of the people that didn't have to have a well-worked gag, or a carefully developed stage persona, he just a turn of phrase that would make you smile constantly. If you haven't already, hear them try finding him reading his own "unreliable memoirs". His love of F1 was a bonus.

Is he the guy he made strange dry sarcastic comments during race reviews?

He did the voice over for the 1982, 84 and 86 review videos.

Here's a great example -

So good. I particularly enjoyed the commentary on Bernie Ecclestone against the flyby backdrop.

His dry wit that he had in his 3 reviews he voiced over was as others have mentioned. A very good highlight of each review.
But his tone of voice as well was well represented. Especially with his monologues of both Gilles Villeneuve and riccardo paletti's deaths were also very acute. Atone with the mood and gave a great insite of the deaths that happened in 82.
