I think that you mean the Hulman family, though I am sure you are right they are almost certainly human as well.

I have nothing but respect for Roger Penske, but it's hard for me to see this as being proper. A competitor should never own the series they compete in. How could they possibly be impartial about their own team?

Doesn't seem like a good thing for Indycar and American racing to me. OTOH I would not mind being proved wrong.

I'm not concerned about the IMS part of the deal, but I do have some trepidation about the rest of it. Assuming that he's going to continue to own and run the Penske team, which there's no indication that he won't, it's hard to see how there could be no conflicts of interest (either sporting or financial) - even with the best of intentions.

i get the concern about him owning indy car, but i am not the least bit worried about it. read above article...neither is mario or aj foyt
as someone who lives about 3 hours from the speedway, this is outstanding. the purse for the 500 is pathetic, the hulmans couldn't keep it going, penske will improve it, make more money for the teams that run the 500, and kept it out of a corporation ownership that didn't give a hoot about racing

really wish this woulda happened 25 years ago

If you know ANYTHING about Roger Penske you'd know he's a straight shooter and wants to win on merit alone.

What's more proper than ANYTHING in him buying the series and speedway is how much less I imagine he'd charge teams to run in May.

One of the biggest reasons the split occurred initially was because to run a full season in Indy teams needed a budget of $3 Million, and Indy alone was over $1.2 Million and they wanted to negotiate the fee down and the circuit's owners said no way. Today the fee to run at Indy is still absurdly expensive so hopefully Penske lowers the entry fees. one other thing to keep in mind is that Roger was a fan of the variety of the CART days and his team was the only one who built their own chassis each season. Maybe this can lead to multiple chassis instead of the hideous Dallara they all run now. Bring back all the engine manufacturers, feature at least 3 different chassis, and make the series great again so some of us can have a 2nd open wheel series to follow.

If any purchaser understands the mystique and history that is Indy and its importance - it is Roger Penske!

I do not have a problem with possible conflict of interest. All Roger has to do is isolate himself from the ones who make and enforce the rules. Roger can control everything else such as schedule and overall direction of the sport.

Tony George is no more. That statement alone brings happiness to my soul. He was the man who killed open wheel racing in the USA for over a generation, and they are still attempting to climb out of the hole he created.

New ownership for Indy, new ownership for Formula One. The old barriers and animosity created by the farce in 2006 can now be bypassed, and it is possible we could see Formula One return to Indy. For Lewis Hamilton fans, his first win was in Canada in 2007. His second win was at Indy.

yep, i wish this had happened 25 years ago. i lost touch with indy car after the split. have been trying to catch some of the tracks i like the most the last two years. couldn't name al the team owners or drivers, heck not even half of them. the racing is pretty good though

one of the quotes about his purchase was something about penske's rolodex being large, and people answer the phone when he calls. they didn't answer, when george and some of the current indy car management called. i think he can bring more money to the sport for the teams. also will be interesting to see what he does to the track itself to keep modernizing it
ive had a lot of good times in speedway, indiana. and at that track.

Re Indycar Penske news. I can't express how pleased I am. Roger settles for nothing less than the best and I am sure Indycar will be a much better organization because of this.
Re F1 Mercedes rumour. Wow, that would be something wouldn't it. Can't help but think it's not really going to happen. It just seems like so much for him all so fast. He could do a good job though I bet.
