New Team set to join F1 in 2021

Drivers will be Pascal Wehrlein and Alex Palou and if the follow through with the same livery it will be difficult to separate them from McLaren.

Would be good to have another addition to the grid, I just hope they are competitive like Haas rather than Lotus, Virgin and HRT.

I think I read on twitter that they said they expect to know the outcome by the end of the month.

Perhaps McLaren will go back to some silver when they move to Mercedes power. I was hoping new teams might come in to pick up some of those unlucky ones in the annual musical chairs, with a lot of seats not exactly open these days. It sometimes feels that everyone doesn’t want to hire from outside of the stable.

I was just thinking earlier how there are more points paying positions percentage wise than before.

F1 should give them some funding for their entry into Formula One. I know money doesn't come from trees, but the article doesn't make it sound like something likely to happen, and if they join, they would probably be slower than Williams.

Funny that the first post has a link saying "New team set to join F1 in 2021"

Headline of that article: "F1 denies that a new Spanish team is set to join the grid in 2021"

Even after reading the article, is this thread not just slightly misleading?

I accept the point heracleum, I've edited the title thread, thanks.

F1 denies that a new Spanish team is set to join the grid in 2021.

Why does Latin make everything sound cooler?

I believe the team is and isn't going to be called 'Schrodinger F1'.

Let's hope so, but let's hope it's not another shoestring budget effort the likes of HRT, Lotus and Virgin.

Given that TV revenue accounts for most of the smaller teams' budgets, that will depend entirely on how the money is distributed from 2021 onwards. It's unfair to knock the likes of HRT for how things turned out, all those new-for-2010 teams were screwed over by a commercial structure that was set up for them to fail, having been lured in by false promises of a budget cap.

Yes but that’s only true after a season is contested because prize money is decided on based on finishing position come the end of the previous season. If that’s going to be changing I don’t know just yet, but I’ve never read anything different anywhere. What that means is that at least for the first year, any new teams must fund their entire campaign. And if it remains a points based payout, said new team(s) better pray they score at least 1 point in their first year. Outside of that they’ll have no shot “IF” Liberty decides not to hand out participation payouts just because they partook in the series.

And that can very well prove too much to continue for longer than a season or two, though the supposed salary cap is going to be implemented, but if memory serves me, that isn’t going to be something that’s going to be implemented in one fail swoop and is going to be worked towards so that the bigger teams can adjust.

And I’m totally with you I’m HRT, Lotus/Caterham and Virgin. They were told that the budget cap would be implemented and once they joined it never happened and no one cared on iota about it and instead pulled a classic Vettel told them tough luck. Had I been those teams I’d have filed a class action lawsuit against bernie and the FIA for being lured in under false pretenses and at least walked away with some of the money they dumped into trying to compete in an environment that went against the business model they were promised with no true intention of ever acting on it. Basically it was fraud committed by the powers that governed F1 at the time.
