24 races in a season?

Post by tim3003 »

So Monza's future is secure; as is Barcelona for next year; as is Mexico; as is Silverstone. Next year will have 22 rounds. Liberty are talking about 24 rounds after that. But team bosses like Christian Horner doubt that their existing staff can cover that many races. That would mean hiring extra workers. How can an ever expanding calendar fit with the desire to reduce costs?
Wait; of course. Two days GP events! Hooray..

Might 24 races finally see them order the races in a logical fashion? Though not sure how much of a difference that would make.

24 seems like way too much. LDMU has already come into effect too much for us fans.

Next year seems a bit congested looking at the number of back to back weekends. It feels to me that it would be better to start the season in February rather than cram any more into March - November.

If we go to 24 races in a season I am going to demand that P-F1 Mod gives me a pay rise.

March to November sounds quite long enough for a season to me. It was stretched to November only recently to allow for the 4 week summer break. Any longer and there'd be hardly any time for a break in the closed season. I think the plan smacks of Liberty trying hard to squeeze extra eggs from the golden goose.

Surely two day events would mean fewer practice sessions, so even less real-track testing and even more dependence on simulators. Is this what we want? I'd prefer 20 races and a good mid-season test. This would benefit smaller teams like Haas who've struggled to understand their car all this year.

24 races is too many.
22 races is too many.
20 races is too many.

There's nothing but greed on display here...

Will 10% be enough?

With an option of 10% reduction in case of some tracks being dropped in the future..

I was thinking 10% per race, but don't tell him!

I've no drama with it as long as LM increases each teams prize money to compensate for any additional costs incurred by expanding the calendar.

They can't on the one hand introduce a cap to reduce costs & on the other increase teams expenses because they want to squeeze a bit more milk out of the cow.
Races since last non RB, Merc, Ferrari winner (After Britain - 20) - 142 & counting.( Last win, Lotus, 17/3/13)

Non RB, Merc, Ferrari podiums won in Hybrid era - 372 trophies available, 27 won

2017 WCC CPTTC - Jalopy Racing (Herb & Me)

I hear the idea is to keep the no of engines per car per year to 3 too. So 8 races per engine? They will end up running at restricted revs for the whole race! Anyway, as Monza will probably illustrate with Verstappen, the big teams just pay for another engine if required, take a full-grid penalty and come through to finish in the top 6. With more races on the same engines we can expect more of this, just adding to the unfairness for the poorer teams..
