Both the top two deserve it. Strategy was the deciding factor in my book. Can't call it otherwise.

Hamilton, Sainz, Russell

I'm interested to see how the Perez/Albon investigation plays out. I would have given a vote to Perez if he managed to nab a point, he had no business being up there

And of course honourable mention to Verstappen. But only one of them was getting a vote from me - whichever driver won the race

Hamilton, Verstappen and Vettel for me.

Hamilton aided by Pit wall

Verstappen did all he could do, very solid but Redbull outwitted by Mercedes with nothing to lose.

Vettel for making his strategy work under the radar.

Hamilton, Verstappen and Russell.

Cant split the top 2, all came down to the pitwall on that front. Russell had one of 'those' weekends in a backmarker that tend to mark you out for greatness.

I didn't mention Russell. He has had a blinder of a weekend.

Hamilton, Verstappen, Sainz for me.

Hamilton for putting an exclamation point next to his standing in the Parthenon of the greats of the sport.

Verstappen for a great drive, showing maturity when Hamilton passed him & on the radio. Big thumbs up

Sainze for bringing another great result for Macca.

Honarable mention to James Vowles for a call only the greatest, most intelligent, good looking & modest of humans could make & a shout out to George Russell. Another big step towards the front of the grid.

Lewis, Max and Russell. Can't believe RB didn't pit Max. At worse Max would have been right behind Lewis and would certainly have given it a go.

Hamilton. Reminded me of Schumacher at this track 21 years ago.

Credit also to Verstappen who didn't really put a foot wrong all weekend, Vettel for pulling off a similar feat to Hamilton and Russell for mixing it with some faster cars.

Did RB have the race pace to come from behind & beat Merc with both on fresh tyres though ?

Hamilton, Verstappen and Russell. Although Raikkonen, Sainz and Albon are equally deserving of that third spot.

Back down to earth for Stroll who had a far more representative weekend.

No idea, but a quick pit stop from RB compared to the Merc might have made the difference. Gamble either way.

Ditto: Lewis, Max Carlos with cudos to George.

George beat Stroll and Giovinazzi in a car that wasn't up to the speed of those two.

I'd rather like to pick 5 today: Hamilton, Verstappen, Sainz, Raikkonen, Russell. All were excellent.

Lando is an unknown barometer somewhat but I'm starting to think Sainz is the second best driver of those not in the top three teams, behind Ricciardo.

I really disagree. Norris has been really unlucky all season. He has very often looked faster than Sainz only to drop points through no fault of his own. It's really unusual for a rookie to look as good against an experienced team mate as Norris has against Sainz. I don't think he's as good as Perez or Hulkenberg. The Mclaren is now comfortably the 4th best car and that's a situation that can flatter drivers.

Well I agree that Norris is unusually competitive as a rookie against someone as experienced as Sainz but maybe Norris is just very handy. That's why I say he's an unknown barometer, because one might think Sainz isn't showing enough superiority over a rookie and another might think that's the case because Lando is showcasing a very real talent. I know Sainz failed to impress against Hulkenberg, but I reckon he's still growing and is extracting very good performance often, as he did at Toro Rosso. Difficult one to judge but that's my hunch. Fair enough tho.

You might be right, I do think a faster than expected car is flattering. Put Sainz in a Racing Point getting regularly out qualified by his rookie team mate back in 15-18th and nobody is arguing he's even in the top 10.

Lewis. He drove superbly throughout. Agressive and on point (especially at the start).

Lewis and Max both produced gaping chasms to their teammates yet again and I appreciate the nature of the track amplifies that but their pace relative to the potential of their cars was at a very high level. I think that Lewis was especially quick and consistent today. Third vote went to Sainz.

Lewis by a mile. What a display of pace in the last stint.

Hamilton, Verstappen, Sainz, Russell, Kimi were all exceptional.

Hamilton and Verstappen showed themselves to be peerless drivers in the field. Hamilton put Max under incredible pressure, and for the first time we saw (very, very tiny) cracks show in Max and the first time he has been shown to not be invincible (during the first stint and immediately after Hamilton pitted - when Hamilton eventually passed him Max has no tyres)

But if we contrast that to how Vettel dealt with the same pressure in Canada and Bahrain and the contrast is significant.

I think in outright speed the cars were virtually the same, however the Merc was able to manage its tyres so much better, so I don't think that it can be counted against Max that Hamilton eventually got past. I think he would have passed him even if Mercedes had not pitted him.

This is the sort of duel we want to see for the headline of F1, and for that they are the two stand out drivers of the day.

Sainz beat Gasly on merit. And for all the "Formula 1.5 is far more exciting than Formula 1" - Sainz is dominating that in the same way Lewis is dominating F1. He's only 5 points behind Gasly in the WDC standings.

George Russell for me is the standout rookie of the season. And that is saying something because Norris and Albon are also putting in very strong performances. This season may be the strongest group of rookies added to the grid for a long long time (Lewis/Vettel and Sainz/Max were only two drivers in their respective years) - for Russel to get P16 in a Williams was outstanding. Pole position of Q1 ;) - but then he kept his car ahead of stronger cars on race day. Outstanding.

And then there is Kimi... Seeing Kimi perform without the media commitments baggage of driving for a front running teams is a joy. Of course, he has a similar issue with his team mate that Max has in that it's difficult to assess just how good it is, but I think Kimi is probably nailing it. He's not having to play politics, doesn't have to worry about accommodating his team mate, he just has to turn up and drive - which basically all he wants to do and gets the best out of him.

If I have to pick 3, it's the first three I listed, as both Russell and Kimi's performances are impossible to judge completely fairly. But I think these are the top 5 of the day.
