Hamilton won't allow Netfilx to use German GP footage

Seems a shame. I can kind of understand why, but I expect it has more to do with the bad result than being ill (maybe the cynic in me?).....

To be honest I personally think that having Ferrari and Mercedes involved in this series will be to its detriment rather than improve it anyway - I really enjoyed the last series, getting involved with all the smaller teams that you don't usually get to see very much of.

Probably he has a right to do so. But, he said so only after the GP was finished, so I also think that it has to do with the result.

He wants everyone to believe he was ill but if they show the footage he knows everyone will see he was absolutely fine.

I agree that not having Ferrari and Mercedes made the first season better with focusing on the midfield, if you watch the sport anyway, we see plenty of Ferrari and Merc in race weekend footage as it is!

Having said that, if Ferrari and Mercedes are to take part, it really should be warts and all, everything or nothing. What's the point in having a program looking at the inside of the sport if it only shows us the ups, but no downs? It's the coming back from adversity that makes for good stories.

I agree to a point, although so long as they limit the Ferrari/Mercedes story to one episode or one episode each at most I think it would be a good addition.

Before anyone really lets rip, can we please ensure that whatever Lewis' motives may have been, this doesn't turn into a bash thread.

Thanks.

I don't like my friends and family all hanging around me when I am ill. I don't think it's unreasonable to not want to be shown to the world whilst you're all snotty and ill.

So looking at the quote all he is doing is saying (probably jokingly) that he won't be in it much as all they have of him is footage of him being sick and that he won't let that go in.

No drama at all.

The story will be different if he had the winner trophy. I hope he doesn't have the power to tell Netflix what they can show or not, that's censorship.

I was a Lewis Hamilton fan from the moment he arrived in Formula 1 until I wasn't a Lewis Hamilton fan. I was livid when Mercedes-Benz took his crew, gave him unreliable cars and bad strategy calls in order to create a German WDC. Now I'm pleasantly surprised when he doesn't make a ridiculous spectacle of himself. He has bad impulses and they are indulged.

People being critical, have you actually read the article?

So, Lewis doesn't want Netflix to show him throwing up (or similarly ill) and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Time to move on, me thinks.......

He has right to some privacy, if he was ill and had a bad race then probably in result of mix of those 2 things some things happened that he wouldn't like to someone make them public - I see no reason to hate him for that, fully understandable

This.

I swear some people just read the headline and make up a story around it. While headlines normally do bend the truth a bit to generate clicks, this one is a particularly hideous distortion of what Lewis actually said.

Is it? "Hamilton wont allow Netflix to use German GP footage" is completely accurate from what I can see from his quotes.

It doesn't say why and people who dont read past the headline wont know why but it certainly doesn't bend anything, just omits the (perfectly reasonable) reason why, which is then detailed in the article. One of the better examples I've seen of clickbait tbh.

“I probably won’t be in it much as I was sick the whole time and I won’t allow them to release me being sick probably so I won’t even be in it.”

The headline isn't technically untrue or else they couldn't have used it, but it does imply something quite different to what was actually said. The writers know that this is a total non-story and the only way to get people to click on it is to entice the sort of people who don't like Lewis with what they think will be ammunition for them to portray him as some sort of diva.

Hamilton tried to apply spin to his blocking the airing of the footage Mercedes-Benz had previously agreed to participate in. Then, a number of people took his spin and separated the story from reality another degree with additional spin of their own. Never make excuses.

Or he made a light hearted comment about how we won't see him much in the documentary.

I disagree, I think that's a fair headline. At the end of the day an online publication gets it revenue from clicks so a certain amount of clickbait is inevitable.

The headline simply gets people to ask 'why?' and the detail is there in the article, that's fair enough IMO and certainly isnt twisting anything. If someone doesn't bother to read past the headline and makes up their own reason that's not the publication's fault. It's also almost certainly not their intent since they dont want people to make up their own reason, they want people to click and read the article.

Not sure, but Paul (the Mercedes man) filmed Hamilton with his hands down his pants rearranging his tackle in one of his fan friday vids. If you are into that sort of thing I'll try to find the footage.

I see Collantine has responded to those who used his tweet

Hamilton has the right to choose what he wants released. If I were him, I would not release film of myself at the German GP either if I was sick. Of course you can't see "sick" on track, so I assume he'll be releasing the driving footage.

F1 youtube channel has a video already where Hamilton says to his team that we should retire the car. But the team refused and said there can be more opportunities in the race. lol.

Seems a shame. I can kind of understand why, but I expect it has more to do with the bad result than being ill (maybe the cynic in me?).....
One of his worst weekends for sometime.. can anyone blame him? Being ill, wasn't his cheery self and even when he was in the lead.. he probably wasn't cracking a smile.

Sometimes we forget they are human beings and can be ill. We take a day off or go see the doctor... go a bit slower during the day.. he gets up early and has his usual set meal then jumps in to car handling g-forces most of us would struggle with all within a good track time we couldn't match either.

Further Netflix access to the Mercedes garage was agreed post Germany to cover the Hungary race.

Will be interesting to see how that translates to the series, could be a good way to show the ups and downs of F1.

I hope Germany doesn't get glossed over though. Mercedes have got it easy enough this year, I hope they don't stop us from seeing the low point on Netflix too (assuming they even have the power to do so).

It seems it's more to do with the series narrative. I would suspect that Netflix had in mind a Mercedes race weekend; and almost certainly a similar race weekend from a Ferrari viewpoint planned. Mercedes at Germany would be a bit of a waste of an episode as the race itself was the story. Netflix couldn't have scripted it any better.

And I doubt whether Mercedes will stop the low point as the further access was granted to follow a narrative; in this case how Mercedes bounce back.

Not so great for Bottas though... I'd struggle to think of two worse races for him to pick!
